i have never seen a single 'pirates of the caribbean' film so my friend insisted that i watch the first one with her and i'm obsessed.

the villain’s origin story is that he can’t eat apples anymore. every fight scene plays like a slapstick comedy. two key combat sequences end with our sexy leading men getting boinked on the head. the climax is initiated by one ship firing forks at another ship. everyone is unreasonably hot. plot armor made only of the word “parlay”. the Redcoats are more useless than you could possibly imagine. Elizabeth almost drowns, gets held hostage, and then her entire village is destroyed but the worst part of her day is that a man proposed to her. a crew of skeleton pirates do drag to trojan horse their way into the final battle. truly insane stuff can't wait for more.

I live in the northwest coast of Canada so we walk everywhere and do stuff outside in the rain and swim in whatever lakes and rivers we find so imagine my smug sense of Canadian superiority when I met a USAmerican Midwesterner who was horrified at the very thought

What I mean to say is that it's very easy to delude yourself into believing you are more in tune with your environment when your environment is not actively hostile to your existence in every conceivable way

Rains frequently, but the worst is like standing under a bathroom shower. Genuinely inhospitable rainstorms are uncommon.

Along the coast, it's pretty easy in most areas to walk to at least one store, or else there's usually a bus or shuttle available. There are sidewalks and bike lanes everywhere.

It's a temperate boreal rainforest, so while there are many freshwater lakes and rivers, they're usually pretty cold. The biggest danger is typically getting caught in a strong current, and the most dangerous animals in swimming distance are on land.

Earthquakes happen almost every day, but the vast majority go unnoticed. Buildings are designed to withstand bigger seismic activity, so unless it's a 5 or higher it just kind of feels like having low blood sugar for a second. There are no tornados

Rural Illinois, USA:

One minute it's sunny, then ten minutes later that distant smudge on the horizon has swallowed the entire sky in black clouds and the water is coming down like waterfall and you literally CANNOT SEE. No sidewalks until you are in the smack dab center of town, which is a three hour walk or twenty minute drive from wherever you are.

There aren't many natural bodies of water other than small ponds and creeks, and because the environment is so much warmer, those are filled with snapping turtles that can grow bigger than a nine year old child and water snakes that are incredibly venomous. These are paired with leeches and mosquitos for that sweet umami flavor.

Three little words Ted always says when he wants to acknowledge someone for the small things. The world is hard as is, he wants people to know he notices. He appreciates it. And he would be sad if they were gone.

It starts the same as always, just the three words to let one Rebecca Welton know he appreciates the small things she does. From listening to his ramblings without interrupting him, to randomly ordering him lunch because he’s been working all day and forgot.

But somewhere along the way it became so much more.

“I appreciate you.” I love you. I love you. I love you.

He would never say it to her. Would never make things uncomfortable between them. He knows it’s not reciprocated, but it’s fine. Being next to her is good enough.

He drops the biscuits off and smiles at her one morning, “I appreciate you, boss.” He says softly and then turns to leave.

He gets halfway to the door before she’s calling him, “Hey, Ted!!”

That’s new. He turns around and tilts his head, “Yeah, boss?”

She’s still sitting behind her desk, smiling softly at him. He thinks he could melt. She looks so beautiful.

The fact that most people just don't understand executive dysfunction is infuriating. cause like i tell my therapists that i can't do stuff, and while not directly telling me i'm lazy, tells me that no! i can do it! if i just put my mind to it!

like yeah no. i can do that when i just don't WANT to do something, but sometimes my brain will physically not let me do things and it's actually horribly frustrating. constantly being told you can do things that you just can't no matter how hard you try can be traumatic and make you think you aren't good enough.

What I feel people frequently forget about autistic special interests is that they aren't always information based. They may simply be visual or mental

Someone may have a special interest in a show, but instead of that meaning that they will talk about that show often, it may mean they watch that show extremely frequently.

Special interests are ways of regulating, not simply encyclopedias we have in our heads. Sometimes it's watching something frequently. Maybe only listening to one genre of music, maybe it's a collection, maybe it's an action. I'm tired of it only being seen as autistic people's personal encyclopedias

Hi all!

Since autism awareness/acceptance month is almost over, I’d like to say something.

I’ve been running this blog for a few years and to this day I have yet to find much information about autism in adults. Everything I see is for children or parents. I think many people don’t think about how autistic children grow into autistic adults. Autism doesn’t just magically go away once you reach adulthood.

I just wish there were some more support and sources for us adults out there. We need just as much support as children do.

Anyway, there’s my small rant for today. I hope you all have a wonderful day/night. Happy autism awareness/acceptance month. 💙
