Brief explanation of the Elements, Charging, Warding, Banishing and Cleansing!! Enjoy my lovelies!!!
Methods of Spiritual Cleansing 🦄🌸🌷
As we (hopefully) cleanse our physical bodies routinely with care, our energetic bodies need just as much attention. According to the first law of thermodynamics, energy cannot be created nor destroyed, but it can be transformed. Cleansing is the act of converting existing stagnant or negative energy into harmonious, good vibes.
Soul Scrubbing 🧼🧿
Generally, cleansing is recommended at least weekly. Of course, the frequency is flexible and dependent on your spiritual practice. Here’s a list of special circumstances that would benefit from cleansing.
When you feel unbalanced or “off”
Before and after spell work
After having an argument
When feeling low vibrational emotions such as sadness, resentment, anger, guilt, or shame
When experiencing a lack of abundance
Before a deep meditation
Now, let’s dive into how exactly to cleanse the energetic bodies!
Body By Spirit 🌍
The first energetic body that needs spiritual cleansing is your physical one. The element of Earth rules this energy field.
Smoke Cleansing 🌱💨
This practice involves burning any plant (except sage) via incense sticks, herb bundles, or a censer. In whichever method you choose, after the herbs are well-lit and smoking consistently, envelop the object or person in the smoke. To purify a room or house, walk through the area letting the smoke seep into the air and pour into the space. You can visualize a white light around the object, person, or place transmuting anything dormant into balanced energy. It’s usually a good idea to have a window open during this process.
Please note that smudging, a ceremonial practice burning sage, is a closed practice reserved for people indigenous to America only. It’s important to help preserve beautiful, unique cultures by respectfully keeping their practices out of our spiritual path if we do not share their cultural background.
Music 🎶🌈
This method is pretty simple. Use any type of music you like and allow the vibrations to overtake your surroundings! Bonus points for playing an instrument or creating your own music. As long as you have the intention set to cleanse, you can’t really go wrong. While you’re at it, go ahead and dance the bad vibes away. 🩰
Emotion of the Ocean 🌊
This energetic body is known as the emotional, astral, or dream body. It’s the field where we’re able to receive and interpret psychic information and is connected to the element of Water.
Bathing 🛀🔮
Creating a bath spell or ritual bath is a relaxing and effective method to cleanse the emotional body, not to mention self-care. Run the bath with care and infuse it with the intention to deeply cleanse your astral body. Use any bath bombs, essential oils, crystals, or candles you want! I suggest adding sea salt to draw out and neutralize any negative energy. Apple cider vinegar is recommended for similar properties. The rest is up to you!
Blessed Water 🧊🙏
Water designated for energetic cleansing has many uses. You can create this by simply mixing sea salt with water and blessing it in whatever way aligns with your spiritual practice. You can add any herbs or crystals to this water, but make sure the crystals aren’t damaged by water or salt before using them. You can use this to brush door frames, touch chakra points, or spray rooms.
Mellow Mind 🧠
The mental body can be difficult to cleanse, but it can lead to the insight of awareness if we take the time to journey within. What we think creates what we feel which creates what we say and do. The mental body is linked with the element of Air.
Routine Meditation 👑🌹
Establishing a meditation routine is key to becoming aware of your thoughts and being open to receive Divine Guidance. There are many studies showing the benefits of regular meditation such as decreased blood pressure, improved sleep, increased attention, and decreased symptoms of depression and anxiety. You can start with ten minutes a day and notice any changes you experience. It’s worth it.
These are just some of the ways you can spiritually cleanse your physical, emotional, and mental energetic bodies. There are many other methods out there if none of these resonated with you. Remember to be creative and have fun with it!

Sea Witch Bath
Maybe you’re a landlocked sea witch, maybe you’re looking for a setting to commune with your ocean deity, maybe you just feel like pampering yourself like a mermaid. We’ve got the bath spell for you.
First prep the bath mixture. You’ll need:
1 part sea salt
1 part epsom salt
1 part kelp powder
½ part baking soda
essential oil of rosemary
Combine all the ingredients in a jar, then charge the mixture under the full moon. Store with a piece of moonstone when not in use.
For the spell you’ll need:
the sea witch bath mixture
muslin bag or old pantyhose
variety of candles
sea related trinkets (i.e. seashells, sea glass, mermaid offerings, etc.)
jasmine or eucalyptus incense
Arrange your trinkets and candles around the rim of the bathtub, then light the incense and candles. While waiting for the bathtub to fill with warm water, place a cup of the bath mixture into the muslin bag or pantyhose and tie it shut. Make sure theres enough room in the bag for when the kelp expands. Drop it into the bath water, then soak until you feel you’ve absorbed all the energy out of the bath.
Enjoy your soak, all you lovely sea witches~

Tools for spellcasting
Courtesy of Simply Wicca by Leanna Greenaway
Altar
An essential base to work from. It’s important that your altar is your own; there are no set rules on this. A portable altar (simply placing a cloth on a hardwood floor) can be used when in the broom closet, or when traveling.
The Pentagram
A symbol known to protect the owner. Was frequently worn as an amulet to celebrate spiritual protection and a happy homecoming. The five points of the star represent protection and the five elements; earth, air, fire, water, and spirit, starting with the top point symbolizing earth and traveling clockwise. Placed on your altar, directly in the center, with the star facing you upright. Don’t forget to charge it!
Salt and water
The highest forms of protection. A small bowl of salt and water on either side of the pentagram will do.
Candles!
Pretty self-explanatory. A variety of colors work well, but white can always act as a substitute for the color you need in a spell.
Incense
Creates ambience for effective spellcasting. Burn for the duration of a spell.
The Chalice
Represents the element of water, and a symbol of fertility. In ancient times, it often corresponded to the womb of the goddess. The stand is symbolic of the maternal world, the stem represents the relationship between humanity and spirit, and the rim is thought to attract spiritual force.
The Cauldron
Used as a vessel for making infusions and potions. Good for burning herbs!
The Bell
A ritual tool used in banishment spells. Can be rung to indicate the start of a spell, clearing negativity, or repeatedly around the home to rid of unwanted vibrations. Can safeguard the home by dispelling evil spirits, or stir up good energies.
The Athame
A ritual knife. The traditional dagger usually has a black handle with a double-edged blade. Many inscribe their candles with an athame, and cast a circle around the altar before commencing rituals. It’s thought to transport power from us, through the knife itself. It’s used only for magical purposes, and generally unsharpened.
The Wand
Traditionally made from the wood of a willow, elder, apple, or cherry tree. The length should measure from elbow to tip of your index finger. The maker of the wand channels the power into it, so it’s good to make your own. Doing this, keep in mind the tree your wand came from. You can carve or sand down the wand, then varnish and charge it. It’s a summoning tool used to evoke the spirits. It can also be used to bless/charge objects, and draw down the Moon in spellcasting.
The Broomstick
A phallic symbol, female witches generally using it in fertility rites. Often placed near the hearth of the home to protect the opening, or at the fireplace to prevent evil from entering there. By sweeping dust from the home, you’re symbolically castling our bad energy. At a witches wedding, the couple jumps over a broom to display their union.
Crystals and gemstones
Their use varies based on the stone and intent, but ensure to cleanse and charge them before/after use!
The book of shadows
A workbook in which a witch records their spells and rituals. All spells cast are noted for future reference. Also works as a dream diary, and tends to contain a moon phase calendar that can be detached and replaced each year. Traditionally handwritten.
