Hi all, just popping in briefly to say that yes, Iâm still alive, but 2020 continues to be the year that just keeps on giving (/sarcasm). 1.5 is just the icing on the cake for this year - blindsided by a breaking update the week of Christmas, joy. I will try my best to find the time to update things for 1.5, but I do not know when it will happen, as Iâm set to resume work in January after a medical leave for the past few months (during which I got exactly zero productive things done due to said medical issues).
On that note, I must remind everyone of something that not only applies to my mods, but any copywritten work:
LACK OF RESPONSE TO A REQUEST DOES NOT PERMISSION GRANT
Plagiarism is not a nice look kids - if the permissions do not explicitly state free to use with credit without first requesting, you cannot use the material in your own work. Unofficial updates are one of those grey areas, so heed advice from trusted fandom elders in those cases. But to borrow someoneâs work and incorporate it into your own, especially if itâs monetized? Big fat no, stop, do not pass go. Violation of creative content rights can land you in big trouble, both within a community and IRL.
(And to be clear, streams and LPs featuring content without redistribution or misattribution are entirely outside this discussion)
On those notes, I hope everyone has a peaceful holiday season, whatever the holidays you celebrate (or donât!). Stay home, stay safe, mask up, and get your vaccines when your turn comes.
Lightweight Diverse Stardew Valley is now available!
As the name suggests, it's a lightweight version of the main mod for Android players and PC players experiencing lag.
Features:
one outfit set (indoor/outdoor sun/outdoor rain) per season
one outfit per festival
some locational outfits (such as for aerobics and Harvey's doctor coat)
some extras related to the diverse variants (such as Samoan Alex's traditional tattoos and Black Haley's braid cuffs).
an "ultralightweight" setting which removes the majority of indoor/outdoor checks in favour of a simple sunny or rainy day outfit per season.
All of the vanilla and diverse character variants from the main mod are included, so you can still pick your preferred variants.
It is still quite big for a Stardew Valley mod, so it may cause issues if you try using it with a very heavy Android mod list. However, it's been tested and it works fine if installed by itself, so please use your judgment when building your mod list and take into account how powerful your phone is and how many other mods you're using.
đâ If you're still having trouble running Lightweight DSV, you can try using Non-Seasonal Diverse Stardew Valley instead. Non-Seasonal DSV has just the vanilla outfits with all the character variants from the main mod.
Is it just me or do I like Elliott a million times better with the Diverse Stardew Valley mod? Like to me, vanilla Elliott is pretentious and has no flavor. But DSV Elliott can do whatever he wants and I am in love with him. The flavor is immaculate.Â
hey, just wanted to ask if you had any plans for specific characters you'd do another 'immersive characters' mod on :0 (btw i know you're super busy and i respect and really appreciate what you do with your mods, they make my game hella more interesting) thanks, i hope you have a nice day :)
Thank you for the kind words, I hope you have a great day too!
So before anything else, a disclaimer to illustrate how slow I am when it comes to writing for mods: I began working on IC Shane in 2018, and itâs still the only IC mod Iâve released. Itâs partly because constant updates to SDV and CP have used up all my modding energy and partly because life gets rough sometimes. I would like to eventually have an IC mod out for all the marriage candidates, but Iâll probably be like 80 by then lmao. I canât promise to definitely do one for all of them, so Iâm just gonna take things one step at a time and see how far I can get. :)
Right now, Iâm working on Alex! Iâve got about 180 out of 320 non-marriage dialogue lines so far including vanilla lines (many of which have been tweaked). I also have some events scripted or at least planned out, so thereâs that. I donât think you asked for details or previews specifically but here they come anyway because I have no self-control! đ (spoilers for his canon content but no 1.5 spoilers because I havenât had the chance to play yet :â( )
My take on Alexâs character and narrative sticks close to vanilla in the early stages. Heâs self-absorbed, arrogant, and is basically an average dudebro you can find at your local gym. He also has a narrow view of the world that keeps him kind of isolated from most of the people in town.
Eventually, heâll start working through his insecurities and stuff and be a more open-minded and self-aware. This part of the arc is based on the vanilla dialogue where he says this:
"I guess it's interesting that some people are totally different than us, you know? I don't always understand why others act the way they do, but that's fine."
And on his vanilla 6-heart event where he apologizes for being a jerk and begins to reevaluate the feasibility of his dreams of going pro as a gridball player. Here, Iâll start diverging from vanilla a bit to show how he builds more meaningful relationships with the people around him because I donât think the trajectory of his arc should end at him being more open-minded. I want him to also realize that heâs not the center of the universe and act on that knowledge by doing more to take care of other people (e.g. some of his dialogue is about him doing chores at home because a) his grandmother should not have to run their household on her own and b) I canât let players marry this grown man whoâs at his peak physical condition if he doesnât at least wash the dishes!). I wanna show his evolving friendship with Haley (I donât ship them but theyâre mlm/wlw solidarity) and establish some new ones with other villagers like Penny (neighbors! (I actually have an event between them all scripted out)) and Shane (gridball bros).
One thing I really donât like about his vanilla arc is how his gridball dreams just... die. Especially when you marry him. I still want his goals to change as he learns more about himself, but hopefully Iâll pull it off in a way thatâs more satisfying than what we have in canon.
This all sounds really serious, but donât worry, weâll also have lots of moments like this:
king of economics!!! đ (portrait mod here)
So yeah! If I ever finish the Alex mod, I want to work on Haley next, then Sam. The rest will follow in an order depending on how much I vibe with each character and whether or not Iâm still into SDV lol
I know the cyberpunk epilepsy thing has been talked about a lot at this point. We, as epileptics, tend to focus a lot of energy on the "what was done badly" since it has such a drastic effect on our health, and strobes are such a big problem.
I was thinking about Stardew Valley, and kinda wanted to talk about the one tiny thing that made it accessible, and why it makes this game my favourite.
It seems surprising, thinking about it, that stardew valley could trigger seizures. I didn't think it would the first time I played it, and it wasn't until I got to winter that I actually had any problems.
You see, with photosensitivity its not necessarily about flashing so much as it is the sharp contrast and the change between colours. As well as how much of your vision is taken up by that movement speed.
While the storms during the other seasons didn't cause me issues (blue raindrops on a grey blue background) the snow storms did (white on a dark ish background)
The first time I saw the snow my heart completely shattered. I'd been watching stardew as it was developing and wanted to play it so badly. It felt so unfair that I played multiple hours before even finding out the game wasn't safe. I spent the rest of the night crying about it, which may sound stupid, but photosensitivity means you can't get excited for video games, and this was one of the few I let myself be excited about.
My ex gf was the one who pointed out the snow transparency setting after looking into it themselves. This one slider bar in the settings. Something I didn't think to check for since I rarely see them.
That slider made this game for me, and it was there when the game released. I can't tell you how much that single setting has made me cry over the years because one man decided it may be useful to some people.
When epileptics make posts about a specific video game or a movie or whatever its because we have examples of how easy it is to put in these settings! My bf's modded 3 games for me so they don't give me seizures and all he had to do was like change a timer? Or set images to static????
Keep your flashing lights if you need them for your "artistic vision" just give us the settings so we don't need to be scared
My second Stardew Valley mod, replaces the default cat with a Norwegian Forest Cat or Skogkatt (with fairy lights).
The Norwegian Forest Cat is a very old breed.  They are VERY large and VERY fluffy.  The vikings called them Skogkatt(s?) and thought them to be a fairy creature.  The goddess Freyaâs chariot was pulled by two skogkatt.  I modeled this cat off of my Norwegian Forest Cat mix. Basically I wanted my actual kitty lol
Here it is up on Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/3565
not a big update but i did add some new color options for iridium and trellises in my mod. i also rewrote the content file and reorganized the assets to (hopefully) make it easier to update in the future.
now i really want to set my focus on the portraits! (ŕšŮâ˘ĚĎâ˘Ě)Ů
Hey all, just a headâs up!
The latest Content Patcher update changed the way the patch summary command works. It no longer provides all information on the tokens, potentially removing vital information needed to help troubleshoot mod problems. Youâll instead need to use `patch summary full` to view all of your tokens.
The good part of the update is the ability to filter per content pack now, instead of only being able to filter down to Content Patcher itself. This is something highly welcomed and needed as content pack mods grow further. So 1 step forward, 1 step back I guess.
This is the official update for the 1.4-compatible Sam/Sebastian romance mod.
This mod will replace heart events and dialogue for several characters to remove any player/villager romance between the farmer and Sam or Sebastian, as well as any implied romance between Sam and Penny, or Sebastian and Abigail. Instead, heart events will take place between Sam and Sebastian, effectively pairing them off with each other.
The player will still be able to date and marry either character, but there are no special heart events or dialogue after marriage.
This mod is not compatible with other mods that make changes to certain dialogue, festival, or event files, as well as the cursors file. A full list of changes can be found under the cut:
i went from 600+ hours of vanilla gameplay to this in one night and iâm crying, itâs so beautiful. probably my absolute favourite part is the fact that the villagers actually wear seasonally appropriate gear now.
the only thing that didnât work was the bed, as evidenced in the last screenshot. iâm guessing the mod for the bed was incompatible with the new design Penny put in place.
I have finally updated my older animal mods! I donât know if tumblr still hates external links in posts, so I wonât include them here. Thank you for your patience as I know these took a long time! Please donât hesitate to report any issues to me on their mod pages.
I wanted to try to make a realistic version of milk churns (maitotonkka) some time ago. I was inspired by andiluxâs amazing Glass Milk Bottles. Thereâs two versions: goat milks with or without labels.
