This is Araminta here, though you can just call me Min! I'm you're average 16 year old trainie, finally learning to use the 3D Maneuvering gear. It's super awesome! I like building things, and inventing things, so it's no surprise to see me with bandages stuck to me from one of my crazy experiments. I try not to get in trouble, but it happens. Like forgetting to wear my jacket, or breaking my gear... Uh... I'm not too good at battle, but I'd really like to be friends! [EXPERIENCE 50] ------------------------------------------------------------ This is a roleplay blog for Araminta Ebert of the SNK Training Camp world. However, if you'd like to interact with Araminta outside of that roleplay this also doubles as an ask blog for the character so feel free to drop her questions.
"Hmm... We should probably head back into the dorms," Min commented, getting to her feet and stretching. Though there was some dirt on her pants and hands from sitting on the ground, she paid it no mind; "We don't wanna get caught out after curfew."
Cordelia’s eyes narrowed suspiciously at how her fellow soldier knew her right away. Her family wasn’t known enough for her to be famous, and the frown on her face only deepened as she watched the way the girl wiggled about like a puppy. This was supposed to be boot camp, was it not? Her father would never have allowed her to be so… So… Cheerful.
"How do you know my name?" she asked, sounding none too friendly as her blue eyed gaze dropped to the outstretched hand. She didn’t like friendly contact, but she also had no reason to refuse such a normal gesture, and after a moment of staring, she finally gave in and shook the girl’s hand. Probably a little tighter than she should have.
"I see, so we’re stationed together.." Cordy didn’t sound especially thrilled about this, but then again, she never sounded thrilled about anything. Still, the idea of such a… Peppy person being her teammate made her uneasy. How could such a person be a valuable ally when she was so lacking in focus? "In that case, would you please point me in the direction of our room, so that I can put my bag down and start unpacking?"
She seems nervous Min mused to herself, letting a thoughtful expression replace her smile for a moment. Then again, this was the military, and not everyone that joined had peaceful reasons to do so. It was probably more natural to be nervous than cheerful, but logic had never stopped Min from keeping a positive attitude. Turning, Min began to lead the way back to the room, branches in arm.
"It's this way; I'd help you with your luggage but my hands are kinda full," Min informed the girl with a chuckle, "Squad C has been having a few issues getting a standard team arrangement, so I've been keeping tabs on who dropped and who to be expecting. I've met Kastella, and I've seen Tank around so that makes you Cordelia."
Since the room wasn't actually that far away, the two were able to reach it quickly. Crouching to set the twigs on the floor, Min snatched a long ruler, her notebook, a crayon and a ball of twine from her desk before plopping down on the floor. These she began to use to measure and record the sizes of the branches she'd collected, bundling the ones of similar length. Flipping through the notebook to find a blank page for recording the sizes revealed to Cordelia a quick glance of what looked like colorful design plans, thick with numbers, notes and guidelines. Looking up as she began to work, she motioned to a rather messy top bunk and the one below it, "The top on here is mine, and the one below it is Kastella's. I don't think Tank has claimed a bunk yet, so feel free to pick whichever makes you more comfortable."
Min readjusted to sit on the floor, carefully shuffling the deck while she spoke, "I'd probably be better to start with a simple game first, so let's try a Bidding War."
She quickly finished shuffling and dealt the deck into two piles. Using the two smaller decks as an example, she began to explain to Angelika how to play the game. It played sort of like the simpler children's game War but with more complex rules that made it more fun, or at least that's how Min thought of it. First the players would look at the top card of their stack--the number ones being valued at the number on the card, the face cards as ten and the ace as one--and then they would make their guesses in turn. "You can be the first to guess when we play, if you want," Min added before continuing to explain. The guess had to be between two and twenty, and the second guesser couldn't call out the same number as the first guesser or the numbers directly above and below that number.
"We then flip the cards and whoever guessed the number closest to the actual sum gets to put the two cards face down on the bottom of their deck," Min concluded her explanation, quickly shuffling the two example decks back together before quickly dealing out the cards for a proper game, "You win when you've collected all the cards."
After finishing her task of mostly emptying her bag, she disposed of it in her closet. She smiled at her neatly made desk, books and a small picture placed in a orderly fashion. She nodded at her work and moved to sit on her bed.
"It is kind of easy to get lost here. A lot of the rooms look a like if you don’t really pay attention to the letters." Kastella fiddled with her hair, thinking back to her small mistake. “I can’t wait to meet them though. So far I’m enjoying my room assignment." She smiled at Min. Really, she was happy she got placed with such a nice person. She was worried her roommates might not be the nicest people…
Min smiled, bouncing a little in place. After waiting so long to finally meet her roommates, she was pretty happy to find that there were actually going to be roommates. With the way she'd managed to never meet with anyone from her original squad formation even though she'd been living with them--though Rosie and Jester dropping out was probably why she never saw them--she'd begun to think they'd never be able to become acquainted and work as a team. Kastella was a fresh breath of air compared to that.
"Yeah, I was a little worried how things would turn out but I think we'll all make a great team," Min replied, her smile becoming a grin again, "I'm glad I get to be on a squad with you."
Yeaaaah Min mun's brain is still quite dead. Sorry for the slow replies dudes. I'll try and get one reply per person out per day, though, even if I have to force my brain to work kicking and screaming. Anyways!
Over on my main blog I have a voice meme open! I'll be recording everything at once, along with the SNK meme, and then posting it. But I haven't gotten much feedback so I think there'll be ample time left over to add in a Q&A session. So! If you've got any questions about Araminta or for Araminta please send them to this blog's ask box. And make sure you specify if you want an in or out of character response cuz the default is out of character! I'll record the question and answer alongside the rest of the stuff and post it. (If you want to send things for the meme not related to the Q&A with Araminta Ebert section, please send it to my main blog. Thanks!)
"I think I’ll choose the bunk under yours" She picked up her bag once more and placed it on the bottom bunk.
She glanced around and took in the neatness of the other beds. “Maybe their just late…or lost. I’m sure they’ll show up soon though." She said as she ruffled through her bag. She pulled out a set of books, two for class and some others she brought from home, and went to place them on her desk.
Min plopped down on the edge of the other bottom bunk and crossed her legs, giving Kastella some time to set her things down. The desk that Min had claimed was a bit of a mess already, with a small stack of notebooks and a weeks supply of handmade crayons strewn across it. It looked somewhat like a child's desk, with the amount of crayons there were, though it was possibly obvious that she'd merely left her entire supply on the surface of the desk; the blue crayons, at least, were still tied in a tight bundle and there was evidence that she'd been working on bundling the other colors at one point. But Min wasn't one known for putting large efforts into keeping things neat, and had given up part way through.
"Late, lost or dropped out," Min replied with a sigh, glancing towards the list of squad members on the door, "Jester and Rosie dropped out I'm guessing... The other two are probably just late I hope."
Titus laughs and stares at the stars."At least everyone will be there and now i dont have to bump into people."He smiles and then sneezes."Stupid wind"
"O-Oh, I guess it’s o-okay" she answered, a little surprised someone would like to hang out with her. Angelika tried to think of ways for them to spend time while waiting for their roommates.
((Pardon me if replies are a little slow; I'm busy melting. @.@ Super melting. The AC in this part of the house is on strike I suspect...))
"Sweet!" Min replied, helping Angelika to bring her things into the room. Once in there, Min set the bags down and began to root around in her pocket. Though she hadn't brought much extra stuff from home, excluding the things she used for her designs and experiments, she had thought ahead a little bit and brought things to do in her spare time. Though she didn't expect to have much of that, having both time consuming training and a time consuming hobby, it was important to bond with her comrades sometimes too. And so, from her pocket, she pulled a tattered deck of cards with a grin.
"Wanna play cards?" Min asked, working to untie the knot that kept the cards from escaping, "I don't know a lotta games, but I know a few fun ones. Anything you'd wanna play?"
"I-I’m Angelika" she answered while she picked up the last things that fell off the bag and stood up. With her hands on the bags handle she said “T-Thank you for helping me pick up my things"
"No problem," Min replied after handing Angelika the last of the things that had fallen from her bag. Glancing lazily up and then back down the hall, Min still saw no sign of anyone who could be her roommates approaching. Today was set aside for getting settled and meeting your roommates, but without roommates to meet, Min didn't really have anything to do. And until Angelika's roommates showed, she probably didn't have anything to do either.
"Mind if I hand out here for awhile?" Min asked with a smile.
Cordelia strode around aimlessly, her blue eyes shifting back and forth as she tried to find Room C. Why had she refused a tour from the instructor anyways? As much as she wanted them to know she was a tough and didn’t need help, well… In this situation, perhaps that had been a mistake.
The red head frowned distastefully, tightening the straps on her rucksack as she glanced around. As much as she hated to admit it, she was clearly lost, and she clenched her fists at her sides in frustration as she realized she might as well put her pride aside and ask someone.
Growling a little bit under her breath, she waited until someone was about to walk by her, and then shuffled so that she was standing in front of them, her narrowed eyes not softening at all as she glanced up at the person’s face.
Though it was free time, Min still felt the need to sneak her way back to her room. It wasn't that she'd forgotten something, it was merely that there was something she needed to drop off. Something she would probably be questioned about having if she was caught with said materials. And so, quickly she made her way back to her room, arms full of small, sturdy branches for later use in her projects.
Just a little further, she thought to herself, hastening her pace as she came within sight of her room. But just as she began the final approach she was stopped by a pair of flat, pleading eyes from a redhead about her height. Well, at least not taller than she was.
"Lost?" Min repeated the information, tilting her head. Obviously, they were in the barracks where everyone had been going to be for at least the past week, so it was unlikely that someone could be there and not know where they were. And if she meant a room, that was also unlikely since most people remembered where they woke up that morning. So this girl, whom Araminta didn't remember seeing around before, either had a memory problem or was new. And judging by her generally intelligent look, Min doubted the former accusation.
New girl, female, looking for a room, Min thought again. That definitely rang some bells. Ah! That's it! Her face lit up when she realized who the girl must be.
"You're Cordelia Bourge, right? Looking for Room C?" Min asked her cheerily, wiggling a hand out from under her armful of branches to offer the girl a handshake, "Nice to meet you! I'm Araminta Ebert, also from Room C, but you can just call me Min!"
Kastella held up her bag and shook her head. “Not quite". She followed Araminta inside the room and placed her bag by a set of beds. “The rooms are not what I expected. then again I wasn’t sure what to expect…" She ran her hand over the desk closest to her.
"Yeah, I was expected gender segregated barracks or something," Min replied with a chuckle.
She followed Kastella into the room, glancing at the door as she passed it. It seemed they were still having trouble putting together Team C as--yet again--there had been changes made to the list of names on the door. Looking over the beds, she noticed the other three were still made up neatly and let out a small sigh; it seems her other roommates were lost or had dropped out already.
Putting on a smile, she motioned towards one of the top bunks. The blankets were a little ruffled and the pillow was sloppily left at the foot of the bed instead of the head.
"That's my bunk," Min pointed out to Kastella before motioning at the accompanying desk, "And that's my desk. It doesn't seem that anyone else has arrived, so feel free to claim whatever bunk you want."
"Ah, the welcoming party," Min mused aloud. Though she’d done her best to make friends around the camp, in the end she’d only managed to befriend a few of her comrades. To her, this was quite the underachievement. A welcoming party meant having everyone in one places, though, so she couldn’t say she was opposed to the idea in the least; "It’ll be a great chance to meet everybody, though it means I won’t be able to perform any experiments that day."
Min mun is becoming really awful at keeping up with things lately! Really awful! So like, I've been playing my DS too much so I've been super distracted from tsnk. But I was gonna start replying to RP threads but I realized... I've totally forgotten who I still had open threads with. @.@ So gimme a heads up if I still owe you a reply and never be afraid to nag me if you're waiting on a reply from me. It tells me you're online, so I can prioritize your reply. But like, I'll be following my squad mates from my main account [this is a sideblog so I can't have minisolider follow people] to better keep up with them, so if you see sweeterthanmydreams start following you that's Min mun! So yeah. I'm gonna try getting back to people I owe replies now. Sorry I'm so slow. @.@
(That Titan killing game has me totally distracted; sorry guys.)
A chill shot up her back as she quickly turned to greet the other girl. “A-ah, Yes!" She glanced at the door and went a little red, slightly embarrassed, but held out her hand with a bright smile. "I’m Kastella, It’s really nice to meet you." .
((It’s nice to meet you Min mun! (oh that’s kinda fun to say). And I don’t think it will be confusing, it may actually make it easier for me to remember her name o u o;))
"I'm Araminta! But you can just call me Min," she responded with a grin, giving Kastella a hearty handshake; stepping past her, Min pushed the door open to enter the room, "Did you manage to drop your luggage off yet?"
Kastella muttered to herself as she looked down yet another hallway. She could swear she had been searching for a little over an hour. Maybe more… This was getting tiring. “This shouldn’t be this hard….".
——-
She cheered quietly, after another half hour of searching, she had finally found it. But now she was kind of scared. What if they didn’t like her? "No" She shook her head. “I must be positive!" And with that she knocked on the door before opening it a little, checking if anyone was home.
((Timeline note of little importance: I'm assuming Min hung out with Angelika a bit, and then went back to her room. Hence the dead room intro thread I made, and Min's replies to Angelika. <-- but that's mainly a note for myself in the future when I forget what I was doing. Anywho, Hiya Kastella mun~ Nice to see we've got a pulse in our room finally. @.@ This is Araminta Ebert, but I'll often refer to her as Min. I hope that's not too confusing.))
As Min left Angelika's room, she reached into her pocket for a crayon. She'd just gotten an idea for a small modification to one of her designs and wanted to jot it down before she forgot. What she found, however, was that her pocket was empty: she'd left her crayons back in her room. Min turned a little red, though it was hard to tell with her skin as tan as it was, and hurried towards her room. She didn't usually forget things, and it was sort of embarrassing to have to backtrack when she did. However, as she made her way back to her own end of the hallway, she was delighted she'd had to come back.
"He~y!" Min called out, spotting a long haired brunette knocking on the door to her room; unless their other roommates had arrived while she was out, there wouldn't be anyone in there to greet Kastella, "Are you assigned to room C? Rosie or Kastella maybe...?"
Min looked down at herself when she was asked to stand. Out of shape? she thought to herself. She'd never really considered herself out of shape. Granted she wasn't exactly a muscle machine--actually, she was more scrawny than muscly--but she was a girl after all. Girls just didn't build muscle like that. Min had always been a wild child, running around and climbing trees to do one crazy experiment or another. And her supplies weren't always heavy; sometimes the machines she was testing was rather bulky. But she still diligently dragged what she needed out to the far outskirts of town to do her testing. This teacher was very quick to judge, but sometimes people were just that way. She'll probably understand we're not all out of shape after getting to know us for awhile.
The second the teacher set them to work, Min hurried to grab ingredients, grabbing a few incorrect vegetables in her rush. She also grabbed a few specific spices, a small potato, vinegar and olive oil. These she brought over to her work station along with her jacket which she was, of course, not wearing. Onto a burner went two sauce pots: one full of water and one with a few blocks of wax in it, curtsey of her jacket pocket. Stealthily she left the wax to melt while she went about making her salad.
A bunch of badly chopped vegetables and a bed of cabbage later her salad was complete. Though she was used to making the salads for dinner at home--her family had a small vegetable garden in their yard--she'd never got the hang of cutting vegetables neatly. The wax she'd been melting had long since been colored and poured into a small mold, also from her jacket pocket. Checking to make sure it was cooled, she flipped the block of wax onto a cutting board and cut it into strips. These finished crayons and their mold were quickly put into her jacket pocket again, all in the intervals when the teacher was looking her way. Crayons are a lot easier to make than salads...
Min and the Salad (or "How This Salad Describes Min")
The bottom layer of this salad is actually cabbage, not lettuce. Because Min was in a rush she grabbed the wrong vegetable, though it's likely raw cabbage will taste just as good with dressing as lettuce. This is representative of the way Min will often cut corners on everything else to be able to put just a little more work into her projects. In this case, making new yellow crayons had her attention.
The vegetables are all cut in a somewhat messy manner, since Min isn't very good at cooking. Their shape and arrangement, however, is important; Min chose to cut them into strips so that it would be easier to share the salad with everyone else. Taking other people into consideration is something Min always does, no matter the task. The center most part of the onions are hard to dip, so she chopped them up very small and put them in the dressing.
Her choice in vegetables is this: red onions (because their not as spicy), yellow bell peppers (because their sweet), carrots, celery and zucchini. Thought zucchini does look very similar to cucumbers, she did not make a mistake. Cucumbers have a very watery taste and aren't good for much other than making salads. Zucchini, however, has a rich taste and can be used in many different dishes. Hence, instead of growing cucumbers back home they grow zucchini for salads and main dishes. This represents how Min is always looking to get things done in the most efficient manner that will serve the most amount of purposes. Hence, while her current designs serve only one purpose, her goal with these designs is to make a machine that will be useful in many situations, to many types of people.
The thing in the middle is a tomato, cored and filled with the salad dressing she made. Store bought dressings are actually very modern (in the 50s and 60s people still made their own salad dressing at home) so of course she makes her own. It's made similar to a french dressing--olive oil, vinegar, and spices--with some traditional family variations. Potato, to make it thicker and more spreadable; the extra bits of onion and tomato center to not waste; spiced bread crumbs leftover from her Uncle's bakery; some mashed carrot; and red pepper to add a spicy kick. Min holds her family close and distant very dear so she's never bothered to stray from making the dressing the way her brother taught her.
The empty tomato it's held in, however, was her idea. Since her little brother doesn't like the dressing and having a dressing bowl on the side was a pain, she figure out how to make a salad bowl out of vegetables quickly and easily: by coring and filling a tomato. This represents how Min is inventive when she needs to be, and thorough when she sets her mind to it. Though the rest of the vegetables are cut messy, the tomato is expertly cored and surprisingly not bruised. (Coring a tomato is surprisingly difficult! The insides of a tomato are surprisingly tough.)
