Between 6 and 7

The search, discovery, purchase, purge, and rebirth of a Historic 1927 Detroit home, and our life South of 8 Mile.

My SO and I have spent the last year searching for, financing, and purchasing this wonderful, old home in the city limits of Detroit and after doing some photo blogging of a recent vacation to Iceland and enjoying it, we decided to try it with our new project house!

Feel free to follow our story and let us know what you think as we move forward! We have 6 months to finish our 1st phase of interior work, namely making the house livable again, so join us for the long road ahead! Picked up a new bike this week! Here’s my gorgeous 70cc 1970 Honda CL70. She’s not a speed demon, but she feels fast to me!

Took my DKW to a wonderful car show in Bellefontaine, Ohio and a photographer spotted me and asked for some pictures. The Hummel looks so good now with her fresh white wall tires and new seat :D

Run down of features and explanation of my 1957 DKW Hummel Type 101 moped restoration project I’ve been working on. This project began 3 years ago, when I bought the bike on craigslist at an Estate sale after the owners passed away and had no children. The original owner was Paul D. Wilson, a biplane test pilot during WWI at the Wright Patterson Airforce Base and Ithica NY. Most famously, Paul was the lead test pilot for the Thomas-Morse S4 Scout plane (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas-…) Big thank you to Detroit Moped Works (http://www.detroitmopedworks.com) in Michigan and Victoria Oldtimer (http://www.victoria-oldtimer.de/) in Germany for helping me with everything from sourcing parts to rebuilding the engine! 3 years ago, I bought this beautiful and unique ped on Craigslist.... I knew nothing about DKW, let alone the 1957 Hummel at the time, but couldn't walk away from her. Having not run since the 1970s, I knew she'd be a challenge, but didn't think it'd be quite as much work as it became. 3 years, 100s of hours, and far too much of my money later, thanks to Detroit Moped Works, she finally runs! At cruising speed of a solid 25mph and a 3-speed manual transmission, she looks and works amazing! Still needs some fine tuning, but man am I relieved that all this work hasn't been for nothing!

Got tired of not being able to carry much on the tiny little rack on my Sachs G3 moped. Bought some used US Military Ammo Canisters and converted them into cool saddlebags. Looks pretty awesome on my 80s ped.

A great surprise showed up at work today. The General Motors Futureliner #10 from the Parade of Progress. Harley Earl’s design still looks surprisingly fresh, and the size of this thing is mind blowing! I personally loved the atomic symbols on the hubcaps.
