Unmanned Aircraft Pilot License

An Unmanned Aircraft Pilot License (UAPL) is needed for legally operating drones in Singapore. Several factors are defined by the CAAS (Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore), which requires you to have a professional drone license. To get the license, you need to receive essential training from UATO centres. UATO stands for Unmanned Aircraft Training Organization, they are drone training centres that have been approved by the CAAS.

Conditions defined by CAAS that needs the Unmanned Aircraft Pilot License for legal drone operation:

Drones that are used for commercial purposes or other purposes that are not recreational or educational, regardless of the drone’s weight will require a license

Drones that are used for either recreational or educational purposes, with a weight exceeding 7 kg require a drone license.

When a drone is indoors for a competitive race, tournament, or for an event that is attended by more than 50 individuals indoors would need to have a license.

However, if the drone is used indoors in a place that is not accessed by the public, you would not require a license.

As defined by the CAAS, individuals have to be at least 16 years of age to be eligible for applying for an Unmanned Aircraft Training License and to seek basic unmanned aircraft training. They also have to register for the civil personnel licensing system account to obtain the unique CAPEL personnel identification number that is needed for both theory and practical assessments.

Individuals would also have to pass the theory assessment before they can move on to the next assessment. The theory test will be administered by the Singapore Aviation academy.
