“That’s fair. I can respect that.” She smiled. “Do you ever whip out some of the crazier ones just to impress really drunk customers? I feel like seeing them go crazy would break up the monotony of a bunch of drunk people getting more drunk.”

“Good. Let’s keep it that way.” She grinned at her. “Yes! Finally. My own cult. I’ve been meaning to become a leader of a cult. Who cares what they’re called? They’re going to worship me and that’s what’s important!”

“Note to self, never give Blaire too much power. She gets all cute and bossy when she gets to take control.” Puck laughed again at Blaire’s excitement. “Seriously, you dork. Who plans on leading a cult? You’re starting to sound strange here.”

“Just as gross as you leering over her.” Puck shrugged. “Serves you right.”

“Was there ever any doubt? Everyone should just bow down before me.”

“Not really.” She laughed. “We’ll start a cult where everyone worships you. What do you want your followers to be called?”

“Incredible. I should start following you around, getting this on tape. People love videos of other people falling over things.”

Knowing the technique and perfecting the skill are two totally different things. I just read a lot of books.

“That’s fair. Though there have been cases of people doing things well on their first try simply because they know the physics of it.” She shrugged. “Who knows? You could be a natural.”

He grinned, “Careful there, you really don’t want make my ego bigger than it already is. Nonetheless, thank you, stranger! Your face is exceptionally symmetrical as well.”

She laughed. “Well, I’ll certainly keep that in mind. And thank you, as well! I’m Puck, by the way. Puck Willohme.”

The cold seeped in like a disease every night at the studio, so Ever had taken to bringing a blanket with her, drawing the fuzzy folds over her shoulders while she entertained and talked and joked for two hours. As she left, the veil of the blanket was hardly enough to keep the wind at bay, but strangely, she never seemed to mind, as long as she was on the move––Her attention was always on something else. Always on anything but herself. Tonight was no different. Her arms were no more bare than usual, as she walked to her favorite all-night diner. There, she was a regular, and as she stepped into the warm scent of fresh waffles and milkshakes, she waved a hello to the woman by the grill and took her usual place at the back of the door, where she could watch and observe and sip her warm lemonade in peace. 

When it arrived, she caught sigh of an odd stare being sent her way and was overwhelmed with the urge to explain. Her voice was slightly scratchy, quiet, far from the enthusiastic tone she projected when on air. It was always like this after a show. “It’s delicious. Honest.”

Puck knew enough of Echo’s mortal reputation to find out the studio from which her night show was broadcast, and, by proxy, find the little hole-in-the-wall diner that she went to every night. She wasn’t stalking her, of course, just keeping tabs. She liked to know where the woman was. She reminded Puck of Pothos, an obvious connection, considering he’d played a large part in her love affair (or lack thereof) with Narcissus. She knew that Echo, Ever, was fragile, and wanted to stop everything from repeating itself.  That particular night, Puck had found herself at the diner without any thought in mind of the other woman. It was a pretty nice place to sit and reflect to the sound of old records, and the smells from the kitchen were always relaxing. Puck didn’t even notice that Ever had seated herself a table away until she smelled hot lemons and turned to find the source. “It’s warm,” Puck replied, looking at the drink in question. “If you wanted the relief, put a slice of lemon in some hot water like a normal human being.” She hadn’t meant to sound harsh, but it was late and Ever’s sudden appearance had thrown her for a loop. “Mind if I join you?”

He cocked his head slightly, “Oh, well… Thank you! I think… That certainly sounds like a compliment…”

“Oh, it is. All of your proportions, your angles... They’re all very striking.” And very fitting, she thought. Of course Eros would keep his flawless beauty as a human. The universe would have it no other way.

His speed and trick was impressive, yes. But if he had achieved more height then he would have been able to do a full 360 rotation and landed without twisting his ankle.

Cam picked herself off the ground, laughing softly at herself. “Stop that smirky thing that you’re doing. I’ve been tired lately and wasn’t paying attention.”

“You tripped over a traffic cone. It’s bright orange. I don’t care how tired you are, that’s just bad.”

“I can also set an orange peel on fire and still make it something worth drinking.”

“Incredible. How many other tricks do you have up your sleeve?”

“Wh-what? Oh, sorry, I must’ve dozed off. What were you saying?”

“Nothing, really,” Puck smiled, dropping her gaze from his. “Just that you look like something out of a renaissance painting.”
