for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding — some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.

So my brother went with his friends to jantar mantar one night to check out the scene, and he told me from what he saw, that the other three are just media whores.

Just like kanhaiya Kumar once tried to move his political career fwd with his protests that’s exactly what they are doing, they have no logical answers to rational questions about the education system and just want to make it political and anti-bjp, under the guise of protesting for the rights of students.

It’s just history repeating itself.

Being anti-govt is fine, criticising is fine. But the farce they are putting and using the pain of the students for their own benefit, is very selfish and opportunistic. Not to mention their whole CJP is kinda sus when it comes to being neutral bcuz if u look into the history and past affiliations of the so called main leaders of cjp, they are very much biased.

Not to mention the anti-Hindu and anti-Brahmin slogans in a protest for the rights of students makes no sense.

I personally am a centrist and “Nationalist” and a proud and educated Sanatani, so I do appreciate the positive things of both sides, right and left and do criticise short comings of them too.

It’s clear as day CJP is not a centrist party it’s very much in the left, and using this whole justice for students thing is in very bad faith.

Also, I absolutely appreciate what Wangchuk does, and completely see the logic behind it. He seems to be genuinely protesting for the rights of the students without bein performative about it.

BUT, bcuz he was getting support from left wing in his previous struggles, DOES NOT imply he can bad mouth, Bhagwan Ram in any way to appease to his supporters from left, and disrespect the sentiment of the majority.

It becomes morally wrong when u do it to the minorities and question their real problematic behaviour that’s harmful to the society, but u can speak shit about the beliefs of the majority? How’s that fair?

All I’m saying ever since that, it really soured my perception of him, and although I do appreciate his intentions in the things his takes a stand for, but that particular misdemeanour pinches a little and holds me back from openly supporting him, bcus my faith was disrespected for no damn reason.

Unless he ever comes out and apologises for it unconditionally and stops siding with a particular wing while claiming to be neutral, I cannot support him as openly as I would like to.

I hope this made sense.

I’m angry.

Not because a man is protesting.

I’m angry because we’ve reached a point where someone believes starving is more powerful than speaking.

That, to me, is a failure.

We celebrate Chandrayaan. We celebrate Digital India. We celebrate becoming a global power.

And we should.

But what is the point of all that progress if people feel unheard?

How do we reach a point where a man believes risking his own life has a better chance of starting a conversation than simply speaking?

That thought should terrify us.

Maybe this isn’t just about Sonam Wangchuk anymore.

Maybe it’s about what we’ve normalized.

We’ve normalized waiting.

Waiting until someone’s health becomes breaking news. Waiting until hashtags start trending. Waiting until a protest turns into a countdown.

Only then do we start paying attention.

You don’t have to agree with every protest or every demand.

But if people repeatedly feel that pain is the only way to be noticed, then we should all be asking uncomfortable questions.

Because a democracy shouldn’t wait until someone’s body starts giving up before it starts listening.

Progress isn’t just about how high our rockets fly.

It’s also about how low a citizen has to fall before someone in power looks up.

for those unaware of the situation, an indian engineer, activist, innovator, education reformer, and environment activist who refused to patent his inventions, so that people could use them freely, and built a free school for underpriviliged kids, went on a hunger strike to demand accountability from the indian government for the massive amount of exam paper leaks that have occurred during this current government's rule. his name is sonam wangchuk, and today, on the 20th day of his hunger strike, he was forcefully apprehended by the delhi police, and taken into custody. so far, we have no idea where they've taken him, and during his apprehending, a large group of men forced their way onto the dais he was lying down on(because he's no longer capable of even sitting up in his current state), and held up screens to prevent people from even seeing or recording what they were doing to him behind them.

as a result of the latest paper leak-which was a medical entrance exam-20+ kids committed suicide. this man saw their plight, and decided to use a form of peaceful protest, that indian freedom fighters used, to fight against colonial rule. it's something that has barely gotten any media coverage, as most news channels and newspapers are tightly controlled by the government. there were plans to conduct a peaceful walk to the parliament, and before that could proceed, the police-armed in tactical gear-kidnapped a frail old man, who can't even stand without assistance. this is plain and simple fascism, please talk about it on your various social media platforms to put some pressure on the indian government for the immediate release of this man.

update on this post: we now know he's being kept at safdarjung hospital, and has not been allowed to leave, or have access to his phone or the internet. they have essentially arrested him for practicing his right to peaceful protest. a colleague of mine who works at safdarjung, has not been able to meet him or check on his condition.
