I tend to draw Taka on the cuter side, with more round shapes, but I feel like you can go so many directions with his design and shape language. Like, I’ve seen round, sharp, rectangular Takas. And it’s very interesting, because you can contrast it with other characters. Compared to his peers, Taka is intense and might look sharper, but compared to Mondo, one might contrast the different ways they express their masculinity (where Mondo is more of a standard tough guy, while Taka has some more unconventional traits; physically, he’s slimmer and a bit smaller, but he also cries more freely). Also, I feel like his round eyes and big eyebrows work very well for both a cuter and more sharp, intense Taka depending on how you depict them.

I decided to doodle Taka with a bit more edge:

The answer? Both. Both is good. (The actual answer is do whatever the fuck you want, but that doesn’t sound as catchy.)

Hell, maybe the cuter version is just what Mondo sees. Though I think they both just see each other as both the coolest, toughest people ever, but also see the softer, cuter parts that might not immediately be obvious to others.
