"Be a rebel and stay here at the school."
"Is that your way of saying, 'stay with me at the school. I'm lonely and I need company'?"
"How come? Thatâs not a very positive thing to say. Thanksgivingâs the best. Well, the food is."
"Thanksgiving is fair enough. I just don't know what to think of the people anymore, you know?"
"âŚDo we have to?"
"Nah. You can if you want, but they won't force you to if you don't want to. Like me. I'm staying."
"Why? You donât like your family or something?"
"They're tolerable. Their being likable is a debate though."
"God, I hate going home for Thanksgiving."
âJudging by the sudden appearance of Christmas commercials and decorations in the stores, Iâd go with a solid yes.â
"I know right? They all just appeared out of nowhere. I'm glad that you agree with me though."
"I believe thereâs one more holiday in between now and Christmas. Kinda jumping the gun, donât you think?"
"Right, Thanksgiving. I have no idea how that managed to leave my mind. Huh."
"Donât you think itâs a bit early? Halloween was like, yesterday."
"I went into Walmart. They already had their decorations up and everything. Feel like telling that to all the shops in town?"
"If Halloween's over, does that mean Christmas is coming to town?"
"Of course not, usually by this point they have already walked away. Pretty girls like you are out of my league but that doesnât stop me from complimenting."
She smiled, flattered by the compliment. "Hm, I think that there are prettier girls that are more obviously out of your league than I, but nice try anyway."
âWell, Iâm prepared to be sufficiently spooked. But the question is, is the staff prepared to do the spooking?â
"The staff at this school? Hopefully, but I'm still kind of half-buzzed from last night."
Outfits â Halloween
âExcuse me, can you, ahâhelp me?â Straining on tiptoes, delicate fingers reached up for an item in the highest shelf, only just shy of grabbing it. âI canât quiteâreach.â
She probably wasn't going to be much help, but pushing away from the counter she had been leaning on, Sally walked over to the other girl. "I can try?"
"Oh, fuck."
"... Are you okay?"
"The worst kind. Something mandatory or pleasure reading? I never really was much of a reader either way."
"Pleasure reading. Found it in a book store and thought it would be good. Turns out it wasn't as great as it could have been. I don't think I'm going to return it though, it might a bit too late for that."
What did I do?
"Nothin' yet kiddo. Want to go on an adventure?"
"Why would you ever say that, anyway? Thatâs just stupid," she snorted lightly. "But, sure. Amyâs fine.Â
"It was just a hypothetical." She answered, digging her hand into her pocket to search for her down keys. "Amy's a nice name, anyway."
