Embarking on this journey as Miss Montana has reminded me the importance of being true to myself and remaining confident in my beliefs and capabilities. I have been challenged to form my opinions about serious issues and to push myself out of my comfort zone each and every day. As I leave for Miss America this morning I am filled with gratitude for everyone that has supported me this far, and excitement for the amazing adventure ahead!
I motivate myself to stay healthy because I have learned the importance of loving myself. Learning this lesson has pushed me to set healthy lifestyle goals and work my absolute hardest to achieve them. I have realized that these goals stem from wanting to be the best version of myself. I am motivated by the fact that I do not need to compare my fitness to anyone else, but instead I can work to conquer my own goals.
I also live by the ideology that a healthy lifestyle is maintained by balance and I would like to share a couple of my rules for balance with you:
Eat clean 80/20 Fuel your body Sweat every day Don’t worry about calories Watch portions Don’t overuse the scale Go by the feel of your clothes Do this for you!
Making the choice to live a healthy life every single day allows me to do what I love and to find constant motivation and joy in my fitness journey. I do this every day to fuel my mind, body, and spirit, and to treat myself with the love I deserve.
How do you stay motivated to live a healthy lifestyle?
My journey to my talent has not always been an easy one. I originally began playing piano because my parents, being the amazing parents they are, entered me in lessons as they knew it was good for my growing brain to think critically. For the first several years, piano was just something I did, but then it really became a part of who I am and what I love. Music is a huge part of my life, and it is a way that I am able to express my creativity. Music is a mood and I love that I can portray my emotions and feelings through those black and white. ivory keys. It has been so important for me to have found this passion and creative channel in my life, and I cannot wait to share it on the Miss America stage in one short month!
CONFIDENCE
A daily practice that I have learned to incorporate into my life is mindfulness and self care. I like to take time during each day to check in with myself and my emotions, as well as do something that helps me to grow as a person each day. I have not always been this way, but when I made the change to put myself first and solidified my goals, values, and beliefs, this is when I found my true confidence.
I am the type of person that always wants to help others and put their needs above my own, so when I decided that I needed to be more in tune with myself, I felt extremely selfish. Then I read this quote: “It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and make your happiness a priority, It’s necessary.” I realized that if I wasn’t taking care of myself, and was not completely sure of who I am, I could not possibly help others to my full potential.
So you may be asking, how does this relate to confidence?
Well, I believe that I am the most confident when I am comfortable and satisfied in my own skin. I am confident because I know who I am, what I believe, and I work on being at this point everyday. Now I am not saying this is a perfect formula everyday, but checking in with my emotions reminds me to be gentle with myself. It is when I am gentle with myself that I feel the most accepting of myself, and it is through this that I appreciate my uniqueness and am able to be confident in any situation.
I encourage you to really take time to learn as much as you can about yourself and to let your inner confidence shine through!
My #MissAmerica platform is STEM where I hope to help create a pipeline of innovative leaders. From a young age, I was encouraged to be interested in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, and I believe this is why I was passionate about pursuing a degree in Biochemistry-Molecular Biology. The Miss Montana journey has blessed me in so many ways, one of which has been realizing the importance of taking care of myself. I am now more focused on the well-being of my body, mind, and spirit. One way that I practice self care is by eating healthy to fuel my body for my active days. My favorite things to eat come out of my garden, because everything tastes best when it is fresh and nurtured. Inspiration
According to Merriam-Webster, to inspire is to “exert an animating, enlivening, or exalting influence on.” I find my inspiration through the loveliness of nature, and by living in Montana, I am able to experience this scenery right in my backyard. This environment not only helps me to recognize my inner strength, but it also reminds me of the power and beauty of our Creator.
By spending time alone in the wilderness, I am rejuvenated by the peaceful silence that surrounds me. It allows me to collect my thoughts and really reflect on my goals and values. I think it is so important to recognize inspirations in our live, so tell me, what inspires you?
