“poor little girl, you are not what was desired, but you are no less dear to me on that account. a son would have been the property of france, but you, marie thérèse, shall be mine” 🦢🎀
- marie antoinette to her daughter marie thérèse on this day in 1778
I know what i like and who i am
I've got a big heart and a tight cunt, if you even care.
how do i do anything at all
i don’t work, don’t study, barely leave my room, haven’t seen my friends in weeks.. someone actually help 💗🦢
listening to unreleased lana and daydreaming about a man that's no good for me
the man i daydream about is haunting my damn narrative !
dopamine detox diary 🎀📎
lately i've realised i'm getting addicted to my phone and becoming so hedonistic that i've rejected any form of dopamine that requires time to attain.
so i've decided that each day i'm going to try and consume media that isn't short-form. these might include articles, movies, books i'm reading etc. here's what i got up to:
📚reading
i've started reading letters to milena by franz kafka !! i enjoy kafka's works and find his life extremely interesting and i find the way his life bleeds into his writing really beautiful. i only recently learned that milena was essentially a muse and pen pal to him, which made me curious about their correspondence. the book was sitting on my bookshelf for a while, however last week i took a trip to vienna (where milena lived for a while) which inspired me to finally start it. i'm only 10 pages in, but can't wait to see how kafka reveals himself vulnerably to her.
📰articles
i read the viral vogue piece "is having a boyfriend embarrassing?" and its rebuttal in dazed, "love is not embarrassing."
my conclusion: no having a boyfriend isn't embarrassing, but idolising a man who treats you badly definitely is. what struck me in the vogue article is the argument that for certain online personalities, having a boyfriend ruins their "personal brand." i actually get that. if your content revolves around being single or a "female manipulator," people (me included) might see a relationship as performative betrayal.
but the dazed piece also made a great point: why do we care so much what strangers think? social media has made us hyperaware of how our relationships reflects on us almost like we're constantly curating a character. i myself sometimes find that i fall into this trap where i tailor my tiktok reposts or instagram highlights to accurately reflect how i want to be perceived.
🎬films
i watched 4 movies last week:
paris, texas (1984)
secretary (2002)
gentlemen prefer blondes (1953)
eyes wide shut (1999)
i'm going to make a separate post on my thoughts on these movies
🌹substack- "the male mind cannot comprehend the allure of tony soprano"
as a longtime sopranos fan, i can't lie i have always been attracted to tony. i fell in love with the season 1 version of him, but by season 6 i was disgusted with how sociopathic and narcissistic he became. even my female friends who haven't watched the show laugh when i say i find him hot, questioning how i could adore an overweight, balding man with anger issues
before reading this substack post, i could never articulate the appeal. now i finally can!
🌍travel
next year i'm travelling to south africa, specifically cape town and kruger national park. before i travel anywhere i like to learn a bit about the history and culture, as i find it turns travel from consumption to connection. thus, i started reading about the south african apartheid, nelson mandela, and some of the different ethnolinguistic groups that live in south africa (zulu, xhosa, tswana, etc.).
🕊️history + politics
lastly, i started learning about che guevara and the 1954 guatemalan coupe d'état. i've always loved che guevara as a political figure however i never knew he was in guatemala and witness the overthrow of jacobo árbenz. learning about the US-back military coupe solidified my distaste for the CIA and how they're always involved in something they shouldn't be.

i might start doing this every monday to hold myself accountable and track what i do each week to avoid doomscrolling. i hope you enjoyed reading, and i'm curious to hear your thoughts on any of this 💌
paris, texas (1984) 🦢🌵
