Ampullae of Lorenzini are sensory organs that detect electric fields and are found in sharks, rays, and skates. They help sharks locate prey, navigate in murky waters, and even help them sense their environment. The ampullae of Lorenzini help them hunt more efficiently and survive in different aquatic habitats.
How do they work? 🤔
They constantly monitor the electrical fields and can detect weak electrical fields produced by prey, muscle contractions, and even the Earth's magnetic field!
