Blacktip blood draw!
When drawing blood from sharks, researchers tend to target the caudal vein that runs against the base of the spine of the tail. It's less risky than targeting the dorsal arteries, but does require a fine bit of precision to find!

Is this actual research or is this projecting human emotions onto a not human creature?
Am I generalising an entire class, family, or species and is it important to specify that (probably yes)
Am I able to find the research paper with evidence for this, and how recent was it made, was it peer reviewed, was the fact a fact or a potential interesting explanation? (Still cool but please specify!)
Is this fact being used to try and create positive reception around sharks, and is it being over exaggerated in this attempt? (Or blatantly lied about)

I've just learned that the USPS has stamps commemorating Eugenie Clark, an incredibly influential marine biologist, shark researcher, and SCUBA pioneer (and my personal hero!!!) Not only do you get cool stamps promoting women in marine science, you also get to support the USPS!

Y'all I realize this isn't my usual post but I am SO excited to announce that I officially have an article PUBLISHED!! I worked so freaking hard on this and I'm really proud of the result. It's going to go a long way in helping me achieve my goal of becoming a science communicator.
The microbiome is essential for the sharks' health by helping to break down food and protect the organism against disease.
