He was busy searching the apartment for anything that would help him onto the missing man’s trail. He’d been here a few times before, to drop off case files mostly but once they’d had drinks and watched the Knicks game. “That’s what we’re going to find out.” He walked over to Mulder’s desk, pressing play to hear the messages on his answering machine. When noting turned up at the apartment, he made sure she was alright, giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze of reassurance. “We’ll find him. It’s my job to find men that can’t be found.” 

she  sort  of  just  stands  there,  eyes  watching  his  every  move.  there’s  nothing  much  she  could  do  at  this  point  anyway,  and  the  trauma  was  still  a  bit  too  much  for  her  to  handle  even  the  basic  of  actions.  everything  was  still  rushing  through,  still  leaving  her  weak  and  broken.        ❝ what  if  he  doesn’t  want  to  be  found? ❞          oh,  the  worry  that  overcomes  her,  the  idea  that  perhaps  he  had  left  of  his  own  volition  and  that  maybe  he  just  couldn’t  take  it  all.  that  somehow,  she  was  to  blame  and  she  didn’t  even  realize  it.             ❝ what  if  he’s  gone  because  he  can’t  take  this  anymore? ❞

“ I DO UNDERSTAND THAT, SAMANTHA… But when there is something I don’t understand, I need to try and find out how I can understand it. the not knowing is what leaves me feeling… uneasy. that kind of thing excites your brother, but that’s not the case with me. ”   That is just how Scully has always done her job, how she’s always dealt with things. With a sigh, she’ll close her eyes and pinch the bride of her nose briefly before going on.   “ Can we just… Talk about something else? We’re supposed to go out for lunch, and Fox wants us to get to know each other better. ”

❝ sometimes  it’s  about  the  simplest  explanation  to  be  had. ❞          somehow  it  managed  to  leave  her  amazed  knowing  scully  had  worked  with  her  brother  for  so  long,  that  somehow  she’d  managed  to  put  up  with  him  for  as  long  as  she  had.  that  a  woman  so  hellbent  on  finding  logic  in  everything,  proving  a  scientific  conclusion  above  all  else,  had  become  one  of  the  people  fox  considered  close  in  his  life.  perhaps  there  was  more  there  that  samantha  couldn’t  see  yet,  something  that  could  take  months  of  possibly  years  to  find  reason  in.           ❝ i  don’t  know  how  expects  us  to  get  to  now  each  other  in  a  short  amount  of  time. ❞           she’s  rather  hesitant  still,  can’t  even  figure  out  who  exactly  to  trust  in  this  world.  to  her,  scully  could  be  just  as  dangerous  as  the  next  stranger  she  would  run  into  on  the  street.
