Inheritance

Once, my mother told me her great grandmother was a healer and midwife who used herbs and plants to help the lives of the people around her. 

“Maybe that is why I love gardening so much. Or why I am a nurse.” She said. 

It makes me think of my blood and how it rises up to the gusts that blow through tall pine trees. And every once in a while I remember that we are all (a little bit) called by the wind and our mothers to be witches.
