Sorry to bother, is To My S/I still a thing? Or ANY selfship events? I’m trying really hard to find shippers in my fandoms and am having such poor luck!! :((

Hi there, anon!! It's so rare to see people mention To My S/I nowadays, so this made me smile!! Thank you for sending this ask!! :D

Unfortunately, I stopped hosting To My S/I a few years back due to my chronic illness deterioating, thus I got very inactive in the self shipping community and on Tumblr in general. I know there are some self ship events here and there, like for example F/Ovember created by @cherry-bomb-ships! There also used to be weekend events called F/O Takeover where people would RP as their own F/Os and people could send asks to eachother as some sort of AMA about their self ships! However the original host, myrainydayloves, seems to have left the community a few years back.

That being said, that doesn't mean those events can't be revived!! A couple of years back I said that if anyone wanted to start hosting their own To My S/I event, they have my full permission to do so!! The reason I started making To My S/I a thing is simply because I didn't see an event like that before and I knew that a lot of happiness and joy could be shared and could bring people together!! The self shipping community has become a lot more secluded and anxious in the recent years because of multiple reasons, and it's such a shame because this community is all about our shared love for fictional characters and storytelling!! And seeing how many people wish it was more open and welcoming again, I say be the change you wanna see in the community!! Start treating others how you want to be treated!! Change can happen, but it has to start somewhere, y'know?

Other than that, there are some Discord servers dedicated to self shippers in a specific fandom being promoted here and there, but I can't point to anything specific atm, sorry :(( Best of luck, anon!!

We need to relearn the balance between not wanting to share your f/o and accepting that there will be other people out there who also ship with your f/o. I've been around a long time and I'm seeing people slipping back into this mindset of hating "doubles" (tbh I don't even like the use of that word for people who share an f/o) and not only that, but getting upset at others who may support that ship as well. You may not want to hear this, but it is selfish to expect a friend to cut ties with one of their other friends only because that other friend of theirs has the same f/o as you. Self ship "doubles" are not out to take away your f/o or be more popular than you, they just want to enjoy themselves as much as you do.

Block and move on, put tags and urls on your filtered content, write out your angry thoughts in a word doc or to a close friend. But please try to be a bit kinder. This is a community based on love. Remember that.

I want to add to my partner's beautifully-worded post: destroy the mindset that love is a FINITE resource. In the same way that you have love for many people, characters, friends and THEIR ships others will have for you!

Someone else's gain is not your loss, and you can exist in your friends' hearts at the same time as others and if the idea of that causes you such distress then it's a good idea to try talking about it with them or a professional. As someone who USED to very upset by seeing other ships with their f/o, you'll be a lot happier when you can look at them and say 'good for them' and move on.
