‘Cockroaches’, by Jo Nesbo
‘Cockroaches’ - another brilliantly written novel by Jo Nesbo, the fabulous Norwegian author. He is an author that I have recently become in love with.
Nesbo’s technique has been one that I have found extremely gripping, leaving me wanting to turn pages and once finished reading one book, eager to move onto the next. His narration encourages you to feel as though you are the character he is writing for.
This is the third book that I have read by Mr Nesbo, to which all have left me feeling guttered when the story-lines have come to an end. Therefore, I have made it my challenge to read all of his novels and to tell you all what I feel and think about his perfect art.
The story-line for ‘Cockroaches’, a Crime Thriller, has you feel like you are amongst a Roller Coaster ride. It includes plenty of ups and downs, twists and turns. My experience of reading this book had me constantly intrigued and excited to say the least.
‘Cockroaches’ follows Harry Hole, a Norwegian Murder Detective. He is smart, wise and determined. As a character he is very determined when wanting to get to the bottom of a case, sometimes going against his superiors. Harry relies a lot on his ‘gut-instinct’ and uses his initiative when following through on his own theories.
I personally like how Harry’s character has a negative past, and this I find inspiring to know that despite that past and negative experiences, he still represents as such a talented, hardworking and understanding Police Detective. I feel that the portrayal of his Alcohol Addiction can give many readers the opportunity to see that no matter what you may go through, you are still able to be an individual that follows through with dreams and aspirations, as long as you are determined and ready to work towards them.
When the story started getting serious, I began speculating on who the suspects could be and I really could not put my finger on one particular character.
At first, I thought that the Norwegian and Thai Authorities were in on the case and that they were doing all that they could to close the case, because of it being an assassination that they had somehow carried out. The way that they spoke to Harry and how they required the job to be completed urgently, raised my suspicion of them as a first suspect.
Then, as I were introduced to Mr Sanphet. From what I was reading about him made me feel as though he knew more than he was letting off and had been keeping secrets on behalf of the victim (Norwegian Ambassador).
Miss Ao started to become my next suspect as she gave off the impression that she was guilty of something, because of being a highly emotional individual.
Jens Bekke became a RED ALERT suspicion because he came across as extremely confident when speaking with Harry, or any other character for that matter, and his deep involvement with the Molnes family.
The last suspect I had in mind was Liz, only because she seemed to know a lot about the different things that were happening or had happened in Bangkok, especially with reference to the Norwegians.
What I enjoy the most about this story was the journey that it took me on, no matter how far you are or how close you think the end is, you find out something new and that piece of information takes you further. It is like collecting Jig-Saw Pieces and trying to join them together.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Crime Thriller books, Documentaries, TV Dramas, Movies. Or if you are an aspiring Crime Detective.
It is a book that will definitely keep you on your toes...
