Hey uh, i saw your post about why Michael needs Trevor(sorry if this is wierd and my answer is probably 100 years late). i got a headcanon for it: i think Michael needed Trevor because he knew deep down he didn't want to end their friendship. they've come a long way over the years, and even after he betrayed Trevor, it is still one of his biggest regrets. he wants to fix their friendship, or maybe even go as far as turning it into a ligit relationship. (yes I'm a trikey shipper.) So yeah.
Uh yeah hey, you probably sent me this a century ago. I havent been on this account in many years, as it's very old and a bit buggy. My new url is @tpllc but it only gets updated periodically as I've largely moved on from the fandom.
That being said I still have thoughts and feelings about the story. I think Michael struggled with his love of Trevor. He may have never known he *loved* Trevor. Perhaps Trevor simply represented the wild and dangerous life they shared together. Ultimately, he chose his family over Trevor, but you can see he is longing for something more ("MY BOAT!!", cheating on Amanda, having everything and still being a depressed asshole).
Despite all this I'm still not sure Michael actually regrets trying to escape Trevor. I think he is expertly written so that it is extremely difficult to track Michael's true motives, and they seem to change on a whim. I think Michael struggles with understanding his own desires, and moreso, struggles to control his impulses, perhaps not as much as Trevor, but enough that he cannot resist Trevor's allure.
I think this made for an extremely volatile but simultaneously, passionate relationship between them.
