I'm a bit new to tumblr and the whole concept of rpf really , and I had started reading a few fics here and there , and had seen zero cycle being mentioned quite a lot so that was on my to be read list . what exactly happened that ZC is now off the internet ? I saw you posting a lot about how people not knowing rpf boundaries are the reason this happened , so could you please explain whaat boundaries were broken by people for this to happen ? i wanna read rpf and defo dont wanna be an idiot in future who breaks these unwritten rules and causes so much distress . Thanks in advance !!!

hii! I'll explain to the best of my ability- I'm a bit new to rpf myself (i don't write, i know, rare) but i think once you grasp the basics the rules are pretty simple <3

so the whole point of rpf is that it should stay in rpf spaces (ao3 and tumblr), because the whole idea is that it's for fun, but ultimately is about real people, so it's just a generally acknowledged piece of fandom etiquette that rpf shouldn't be discussed outside of rpf safe spaces .

what happened with ZC was somewhat of a fandom crossover, with rpf fans sharing it with MCSR fans on twitter, which took it out of a safe space and ultimately ended up with it being brought to the attention of real people mentioned in the fic (eg. Tubbo) , and people going so far as to mention it in Oscar's comments.

This (the possibility of the fic itself being shared with the drivers) then became so much of a weight on the author's conscience, along with the disgusting hate that she was recieving, ultimately ended with her deciding to remove the fic, and sadly herself, from the internet .

so yeah, keep rpf in rpf-safe-spaces and you should be fine <3

this is. Truly one of the worst days of my life. One of the most beautiful pieces of literature has been taken off the internet because people cannot contain fandom and rpf the way it needs to be. I hope everyone who participated in bringing zc to the knowledge of streamers and real people involved in it feels satisfied with what they've done. A source of comfort for so many people, which could've been truly cherished and loved the way it always deserved to be, is now gone, leaving us with no knowledge of when it may be back, and most importantly, leaving irreparable damage on the author's conscience. Hope everyone is truly happy with themselves. I will be sobbing forever.

@evilgustofwind no apologies can suffice. Please know you have our full support. You, the real person behind the worlds you created, are far more important than any fanfiction, no matter how impactful or influential. Please don't feel guilty, please don't feel any remorse, or any sort of negative feelings towards this, you are really a special person with so so so so so much talent, you are a treasure.

I hope sometime in the future you can feel safe enough to return. Until then, all my love 💗

so what are people going to do when everyone stops writing rpf because some of you can’t follow the most simple, basic rules of fandom etiquette, and keep it IN fandom? what are you going to do when nobody is creating for you anymore? is that how far it’s going to have to be taken? you have to realise that when it comes to rpf, they are REAL PEOPLE. it’s not cute or funny to alert those people to fiction written about them, especially when we as authors specifically request that you don’t. this is absolutely the sort of thing that will kill rpf fandoms for good.

i dont even have twitter so imagine my shock when i tried to refresh ao3 to reread the zc sequel just to find the fics deleted. I am honestly so pissed that people cant just stay on „fandom“ sites like tumblr wtf. i feel so bad for the author too. I hope that she can still enjoy writing at least privately, she is way too talented :(

This is exactly what I tell my mother but now she's got a very skewed perspective of what fanfiction is so anytime I read/write fics she's like "ah yes, porn" and im like sitting there actively sobbing/hyperventilating and I just have to be all "yep totally, just porn and didn't destroy me at all"
