black sails, xxxviii / nina b. lichtenstein, sephardic women’s voices / black sails, xxiii
“The man who talked me into giving a shit about this crew” is also so hilarious, girl please get a fucking grip
Flint is the creator of all emotion. You understand
Pick a time Silver said/did something very revealing by accident
"Guilt is natural. It also goes away if you let it."
said he wanted to be free of Flint right after sitting down at his feet
"...other thing hiding in the spaces. The one whose shape you first showed me."
"...the man who talked me into giving a shit about this crew..."
tried to pretend ignorance when asked if he was a 'Walrus man'
"The men need to know they're in good favour with me. They need it."
"You cannot follow a man like that and then pick and choose when you deny him."
checked his pocket for the schedule fully aware of Flint's theatre production
"...never knew my mother."
"...the number of times I have followed you blindly,"
"I'm committed to Flint. I'm committed to Madi."
it must’ve been so embarrassing for everyone on game of thrones when they fumbled the ending so bad after black sails managed to achieve everything they were trying for two years earlier with a much smaller budget. like well lit fight scenes, intricate politics, morally gray characters with shifting alliances, sea battles, epic stories told on a focused character level, waxing poetic on the nature of stories and storytelling and the way they shape reality… like damn y’all really are just out there reheating jonathan steinberg and robert levine’s nachos
what if you asked, "permission to speak freely, captain?" and the captain said no? what then? this is what black sails is about.
Black Sails, 3.3, 2.3, 2.5, 2.8, 3.5, (2014-2017) + Mitski, "I Guess" (2022)
It's been you and me since before I was me
I was scrolling through old drawings. Found this one from 2019. Not that bad, actually.
This has been said before and I don't think it was really the creators' intention when producing the show, but the fact that sooo many characters and storylines in black sails start out so clichéd and then, over the course of the show, get more and more complex and REAL, certainly fits unbelievably well into black sails' theme of the power of stories and how we create characters. like Max. Vane. Anne. Flint of course. the list goes on.
it feels conspiratorial to say that this was the creators' plan all along, to BAIT people with a typical GOT-adjacent story and characters and then PURPOSEFULLY slowly developed them and unmade one cliché after another. but whyever it happened, it DID happen and it's a big reason why I can't really dislike s1 and all the strange characterizations and scenes it includes, because it fits SOOOO well into the show's themes it drives me insane.
like if one were to watch the last episode of black sails. and then turn around and watch the promotional material for season 1 of black sails. I think one might go a little crazy over that.

[ID: Gifset from Black Sails with a quote over top.
Anne and Jack lined up to watch the keelhauling “Monsters are needed,”
Rodgers hitting Vane with a stick “Monsters are necessary.”
Flint approaching Rodgers at the truce meeting “How is the hero meant to know they are good”
Jack leaning over a defeated Rodgers “Without something to measure themself against?” End ID]
he was so real for this honestly
