the worst thing about playing with a professional orchestra is i never get to properly hear the finished product. i mean, i can’t hear the same balance and colour as the audience (so much horn! so much bassoon!), and it’s hard to enjoy the larger picture when i’m concentrating on my own part.

True but you get to see the audiences face at the end of a beautiful symphony and you get to see people try to hide their tears or grinning from ear to ear and it’s pretty great.
