one of the worst feelings in the world is when you meet someone who is better than you at the one thing you’re really good at
a concept: i’m in a warm bed with lots of blankets and i have no obligations to be anywhere. i’m calm and safe and happy and you are here with me
there are two types of tuba players
1. big and muscly 2. smaller than everyone else in band
WHEN SOMEONE U LIKE TEXTS BACK REALLY FAST
do you ever just play something so wrong that you look up at the sky and just go “what was that”
Yaaassss!
my typical phrase is “and now with the right notes”
After an Intense Practice Session
*stands up*
*wobbles*
*sits back down*
How to practice (for procrastinators and panickers)
1. Set an alarm for ten minutes before you want to start practicing. Use these ten minutes to finish up your show, your chapter, whatever homework you’re doing, whatever. Use the bathroom, make some tea, and…
2. Set up your practice corner!!!! get your music out, your instrument stand, chair (if applicable). Set your tea nearby so you don’t forget it.
3. WARM UP. always warm up first. do your scales and arpeggios, all your favorite warm ups. Segovia (famous classical guitar performer) spent 3 hours on scales every day before getting to repertoire. that’s a little drastic (and unrealistic) for college kids or whatever, so a good rule of thumb is do scales for a fourth of your practice time. plan on practicing 2 hours? scales for a half hour.
4. Take a SHORT break!!! take ten to map out your practice session. maybe keep a practice journal? determine what pieces you’ll be working on (keep it limited! don’t overbook yourself!). now ask yourself what do you want to accomplish while working on each piece?? are those few measures still sloppy? wanna up your tempo? wanna write in fingering? memorize that page turn? learn another two pages of the piece? pick a couple!
5. GET TO WORK. don’t let your ten minute break becoming 5 episodes of Friends (it happens). pick a piece and hack away at it for as long as you intend to. set a timer maybe if you get antsy, to keep yourself from looking at your clock or checking your phone.
6. at the hour mark of your practice session TAKE A 15 MINUTE BREAK!!!! stretch, drink water, take a walk around the building, have a small snack, go to the bathroom.
7. keep going until you’ve accomplished your goals!! and don’t forget to allot some time to doing quick run-throughs, especially if you’re working on a really big set. it’s important to keep pieces you didn’t focus on that day under your fingers.
8. now go grab some grub, you sexy thing! you deserve it!
If you’ve been putting it off, go practice. Right now. Being on tumblr won’t help your grades or your future career - practicing will. Go do it. I believe in you.
Do u ever fucking wonder why some kids stay in the music program at ur school??? Like buddy if u dnt care there’s the door bc there’s a lot of ppl who love music and ur getting in the way of their learning
I literally ask this all the fucking time
Both ❤️😂😭
i went from “delaying all my important work until the last second” to “not doing it at all”.
