worlds most insane and greatest line of dialogue has already been written and it was being human uk s2.8 after annie got exorcised when the gang is hiding in a safehouse from the conversion therapists (nina, george) and the police (mitchell) respectively and everyone is at least passively suicidal. nina doesn't know abt the police part bc to her mitchell just showed up to break them out of the facility but george is absolutely aware of what's going on he is just actively ignoring it bc he has bigger fish to fry. and the radio is playing and theyre talking about how there are still no leads on the perpetrators of the massacre and then mitchell is asking why the hell george hasnt confronted him when he so clearly is aware of what he did and george cuts him off and says "I can't be your confessor. I need you too much." and all of that aired in 2009 on bbc3 and like 15 people watched it and I still lose my mind every time I think about it years later
just finished season 2 of being human uk and i cant stop thinking about mitchell and george because like. this man saves you. you're being beaten in an alley and you know they're going to kill you and he saves you. and he's the same as them except he's not anymore because he saved you. he's the same as them but he's not anymore because he's trying to be better he has been for years but he was just like them once. and he saves you because he stops them from killing you but he also saves you because when you ask him the question that's been rattling around your chest for two years, when you scream it out at that empty alleyway and the darkness and the man still standing there, what next, what next now that you've become this other thing, this other version of a person you never wanted, what next when your life has been stripped down to the barest traces, when you ask what next he answers. he saves you and he's a monster but he saves you and he's your best friend, the best friend you've maybe ever had. and he's a monster but you're a monster too and he doesn't treat you like you are. and when you cut your hand peeling carrots there's a moment where his eyes zero in on the blood trickling from your finger onto the cutting board and it's like he's someone else. and sometimes he comes home smelling like blood and you don't ask if it's really just from mopping up in emergency. and sometimes he comes home late with a dark look in his eye and tells you it's just been a bad day and you don't look too closely at his face when he says it. and sometimes people go missing and you see it on the news and you look at his face to see if it'll change when they show the picture. and sometimes people are found dead and bloody in dark corners of the city and the deaths are ruled another unsolved mystery and you know he knows something but you don't know how much. and sometimes you can feel it in you, you can feel the monster rearing it's ugly head as the moon's waxing face rises above you but when you get home he cracks a joke and orders pizza and turns on your show. and he's a monster but he saved you, he's a monster but he's your best friend, he's a monster but you need him so it's best you don't ask. if you don't know about it it didn't really happen. if you keep it tucked in the far edges of your peripheral vision you'll never have to look at it too closely. he's a monster but not if you don't know. and you love him. you love him. he gave you a life when you thought you'd never have one again and you love him. but he's a monster. and every time you remember that it's a reminder that you are too.
being human random take
I'm not the only one to think this, I'm sure, but the reason why Hal, Tom and Alex feel so different to Annie, Mitchell and George, to me, is primarily because for them, it isn't about being human.
Tom tries to improve himself, whether it's vocabulary or his know-how, sure. Hal tries to act more civilised and in-control, sure. Alex tries to... well, nothing, besides trying to resolve her own death and open the door. Sure, they have the job at the hotel. But this trio doesn't fight tooth and nail to have all that. We don't see them have go through the awkward parts of life. It's all quite simple and isolated. For example: they get the jobs no problem, or they don't date different people.
They're not agonising over the unreachable concept of being human, not like the original trio were. It consumed them. For Hal, Tom and Alex, being supernatural is the focus, in my opinion.
They don't fight outside forces tearing them apart, they fight amongst each other.
I don't know how else to put it into words. They obviously still try to be human, but there isn't so much desperation or effort. And I feel like they somehow didn't take advantage of the fact that these three aren't fixated on being human. They wanna change, they wanna fix themselves, but it's not to the same point as the original trio. They could've had more conversations (and better plots) surrounding the idea that they don't mind being supernatural, for the most part.
Tom IS the wolf and it works well for him. He's a warrior.
Hal is crippled by his hunger, but it doesn't drive him to murder every single time. He's capable of holding back and just feeding on someone.
And I think, if the show had gone on further and things had developed, Alex would have adapted to being dead if it meant she could still have a semblance of something with Hal.
Call me nasty or misunderstanding of her character, but her relationship with Hal was always the most fun, interesting part of her character. Like how Alex going on the date with Cram, for example, wasn't exactly to feel human. Not really. It was a lust-filled get-back at Hal. They were flirting through conflict.
Yeah, the trinity (H/T/A) are more adjusted with their supernatural selves than the trio (M/G/A), so while George rejected his wolf throughout his whole arc, Tom was always in tune with that part of himself, living with it his whole life and being raised by someone who was like him. Mitchell being a younger vamp compared to Hal’s Old One self, and Alex had help and support from the first moments of becoming a ghost. Annie was all alone and fading/becoming a poltergeist before she met the boys.
That’s why the reboot works – they changed the cast but it doesn’t feel repetitive and trite because the new characters are not the same and struggle with the same issues differently.
I had often wondered if the Trinity storyline wasn't originally supposed to be the evolution of the Trio making peace with never being human in the way they desired, before the OG cast fucked off for their various reasons.
No genuinely tho i do think that Mitchell might be one of my favorite vampires ever, he is such a compelling character its like actually insane how much i like him and how much of a game changer he is for the angsty vampire trope
He is such a doomed and tragic character, but u keep rooting for him wanting him to change to get better but that never happens. Hes stuck in the cycle that hes unable to get out of, hes never too far gone enough to just permanently give in to vampire instincts but hes also never clean enough to fully denounce that side of him. He wants his cake and to eat it too but he literally cannot, he cannot exist in this limbo space and be happy, but he tries so hard and every lie he tells his friends is a lie hes also telling to himself.
Him dying was the only way for this cycle to end but its so sad, its sooooo sad that he couldnt get better in another way. But it also showcases immense strength from him, he spent the entire season running from death, trying to figure out how to come back from a werewolf attack, saying that hes not ready to die just yet. Only to then turn around and realize death will set him free. I miss my man so much. Im sick

Being Human (uk) is such an underrated show

Genuinely it's so iconic. If you somehow can find it somewhere, I would totally recommend watching it!!

Hey, Y'all. So, I've been sifting through storytelling podcasts on Spotify and I found this one, that's apparently produced by a Black woman and focuses on stories from Black authors!
I've only listened to the first story so far, but for those who like stories and want to support Black content creators, I wanted to make sure that this blog gives you another avenue for it.
They're not able to make as many episodes as they once were, but the podcast is still going.
i love drawing connections between black sails and being human bc despite being very different shows of very different levels of quality a lot of their themes hit similar marks for me. in particular, i very often think about this quote by anne in black sails talking about her partner in crime, jack whom she met when he rescued her from an abusive marriage
because I think at its core, it puts into words why the dynamic between george and mitchell in being human is so deeply fucked up and fascinating to me because yes, mitchell did save george's life. he was there when he had nothing and he taught him how to survive in new and frightening conditions. and george owes him for that and they both know it. george needs him for that. george loves him for that. and mitchell knows this.
mitchell has done awful things and he still knows that the good he has done for george is enough to make up for it. at least to george. he knows that george is not asking about him about the box tunnel massacre because mitchell wouldn't lie to him and they both know that his answer would mean that george would have to confront the fact that everything he owes mitchell does not weigh up against everything mitchell owes the world. but still. he owes him.
Begging every BHUK fan to read the pilot!!! Especially if you have an interest in writing, its really good and there’s a lot of details I missed while watching!!

When you made your friend assistant manager and now you're struggling with crippling withdrawals and bloodlust and are five seconds away from either bursting into tears or ripping apart every human in the hotel apart with your bare hands and you walk into the kitchen to find that your best friend has made himself an "assistant manager" badge but instead of writing "assistant manager" he's written "ass man"
I have always maintained that Louis' greatest love was Claudia. Lestat is the love of Louis' life (romantically) but overall, I do think he loved Claudia more that he ever loved Lestat. I say that because if you really look at Louis actions in these 2 seasons, most of them have Claudia at the root. Most of them come back to be about the love he has for his daughter, even when he fucks up. Again I say most of them, because there are situations when he doesn't prioritize her. But Louis does things for her he will never do for anyone else.
Hi ☺️
Awwwww that's really sweet 🥺💕 Personally, I don't think of it quite like Louis loving Claudia or Lestat more (it's literally like asking someone if they love their spouse or child more!), but rather the love he has for Claudia/Lestat being very different kinds of love. Louis's love for Claudia is pure and redemptive, whereas his love for Lestat is very complicated (even in the best times) and often a source of strife for Louis. I think because his love for Lestat is tainted by those complications (Lestat's killing/cheating/abuse and Louis hating himself for loving him in spite of these things), Louis embraces his love for Claudia much more easily; it's not something he wrestles with the way he does his feelings for Lestat.
Claudia silences the inner turmoil Lestat produces in him. Where his love for Lestat wounds him, Louis's love for Claudia is healing.
(Very literally: when Lestat batters him, Claudia nurses Louis back to health)
OP why'd you put all that PURE LIQUID GOLD under the cut? 😭😩
