Lying just for the sake of Hating
Some people told me that I became "despised by the witchcraft community" after my harsh critiques on like two individuals, so I abandoned it and waited a bit before checking again the situation, mainly to restore my mental health after a day passed answering to all the messages. I thought the situation was somewhat depressing, but aside of one ableist and two users with fragile ego seething against me, I saw no hating. So good, I can stay chill about it.
But, speaking of one person with the fragile ego, @creature-wizard coff coff, I saw them immediately using this great occasion (/s), of blocking me by pressing a button, to start spitting the most absurd takes knowing they would've baited me. Well, if it was all a bait, then it's a victory for them! But if they unironically believe in this... wew, what a person we have today.
I kinda jumped from my chair seeing this, because I was honestly surprised there was an actual critique against mine "Sole=fertility isn't a thing". I verified this claim, and what they say it's true: Freyr, god of fertility, has a strong association with rain and sunlight. Here is the text about the properties of Freyr, from a translation of the Gylfaginning:
Freyr is the most excellent of Æsir/gods. He rules over the rain and the sun’s shining and therewith the earth’s produce, and to him it is good to pray for fruitfulness and peace. He also rules the wealth of men.
But one thing doesn't make me feel that "Sun can be associated with fertility": Freyr is the god of Fertility, and has affinity with sunlight and rain, it's not a deity which has a control over the element of the Sun itself. In norse mythology, the Sun has as a goddess Sol, meanwhile there is also a relative of Apollo (greek god associated with the Sun): Baldur.
Now, I'm going to talk about that some may be against: all the european and iranian/hindu polythetist traditions come from the same thing. Spiritually, is something I believe in it, meanwhile rationally it's undeniable but of course it may be neglected and I accept that (until we are going to make our cultural particularisms into supremacism and cultural isolationism just for making feel safe our ego). All the european and indoiranic traditions (greek, roman, russian, hindu, norse etc) follow the traditional belief of a "Father God" (Perun, Zeus and Odin are the major examples), and we must consider the common indoeuropean roots of these populations. The indoeuropeans are those ancestors from where we took not only the reincarnation belief, the burial and cremation rituals, the "samsara" vision of the world and the ancient agrarian rituals from which cults like the Dionysus one developed from, but also the concept of the original "Dyeus", translated as "Father Daylight Sky God".
By this premise, I'm going to use a concept used mainly for greek mythology: the division between uranian and chthonic deities (Uranian: sky/heaven gods; Chthonic: ground gods). This division, at least for me, works also for other indoeuropean cultures (and also extraindoeuropean ones sometimes): there are deities/elements regarding our life as mortals, meanwhile there are other deities/elements regarding the metaphysical/superior dimension of the Universe. I'm not talking at all about the "inferiority" of one category over another one, I strictly believe in the balance and importance in our universe of these two roles.
Is Freyr a worldly god? Absolutely, considering that has an affinity over things present under the limits of atmosphere, which are mentioned because of their role in mortal world life. So yes, I still believe that Sun can't have a fertility property, because Sun as a matter of things is outside the Earth, and for ancient people the division between "earth" and "firmament/sky/heaven" is a big one.
Now, let's go ahead, with something I don't want to stay so long on, but it's far more wrong than the simple "Sun-Fertility question". And by "more wrong" I mean it, because we are going to discuss about an open cultural/human genocide denialism.
There are various points just to mess with a pagan, and mostly are big lies behind small truths:
1) Roman Empire conversion to Christianity was mostly peaceful
2) There wasn't a witch hunt until recent history
3) Pagan holidays aren't stolen
1) The first conversions to Christianity, and by first conversion I mean the christian communities immediately after the death of Jesus, were of course voluntary conversions, forming small secret communities spreaded across the Mediterranean coasts which preoccupied the roman authorities for their attitudes which made them feel the worse (such as cannibalism when we talk of the important christian ritual of "eucharistía"). After the famous Dream of Constantine, the church was legalized and major conversions started all across Europe, generating violent religious wars that conducted to the murder of Hypatia and the destruction of the Library of Alexandria, all these thanks to various armed christian fanatics. From this era in fact, the word "pagan" was born and it indicated the peasants, all those who weren't already converted to Christianity and still followed forms of non-christian traditions. Even today, the christians celebrate as saints people like Saint-Martin de Tours or the kievan queen Olga who destroyed pagan temples and killed pagan civilians who opposed conversion.
2) creature-wizard, as a good internet user, accused the Protestant Reformation as one of the genesis of witch hunting. It's not true: since Renaissance, so two centuries before the 1500 which of course provoked bloody religious wars such as the infamous Thirty Years' War, the christian started a persecution of all the demonic minorities, including the witches. In my local folklore the stories about "evil witches" started in fact some time before the 1300. The major hysteria of course started after the discovery of America, but before the cultural spook of "nonchristians as a devil force" was very spreaded to counter, as always, the pagans who still opposed christianization. I shall remind you that the kievans during 1000 were still pagans, or lithuanians were pagans until the end of 1300.
3) Honestly, I don't want to even argue about that. Even christians nowadays say that "Jesus wasn't born in December, but whatever I still like Santa Claus", but somewhat we are still saying that Christmas and Easter didn't replaced Yule and Ostara, meanwhile if we look at the pagan/witch calendar our holidays are basically complementary in the days. It's common knowledge that, to impose an alien belief to a tradition, the easier way is to pimp their tradition with your elements: gods become saints and seasonal festivals become holidays about biblical elements.
Anyway, it's very clear that @creature-wizard prefers attacking me and the pagan community, talking in their blog about their high antifascist values (summarized as spam post of "vote blue"), meanwhile creating bonds with the Witchcraft community group, which has a fault of having various members, including the founder, to be Crowley's followers. As I already said, the only people who use "magick" instead of just "magic" are those who follow the Crowley line on witchcraft. Crowley was faulty of being a mysoginistic individual with various racist behaviors and general anglochristian supremacism in his views with evident stereotypization of extraeuropean ancient cultures like Ancient Egypt. I'm really glad (/s) that they prefer this stuff over moral integrity.
But honestly, I'm the dumb one here: I should be aware I can't take so much seriously an anti-nature user which at the same time dictates their own takes over a community with strong affinity for nature.
