Ok I am throwing this out there. And it’s not going to be popular maybe. But no. They can’t. It has nothing to do with Serena and Bernie being women or being wlw. It’s not entrenched homophobia. At all.

It has to do with the hierarchy of the hospital.

It would be brutally OOC of Serena and Bernie to “canoodle” in the hospital cooridor like Zosh and Ollie or even- at a stretch Dom and Issac (may Issac die in a fire!!!)

Ollie and Zosh are registrars. They are foundation doctors. They have a different and lower/lesser status than Serena and Bernie.

Serena Campbell is the co-lead of AAU. She is a Consultant. She is the ex Deputy CEO of Holby who still wields a fuckton of power. What’s more she is still considered second to none when it comes to the hospital management. Ie: Dom tonight referencing her in deference when Issac got the call to stand in for Ric at the ball.

Registrars can dally about in the halls and at Pulses - even though it is frowned upon. But not Consultants. Not EX-DeputyCEO’s. Not HEADS OF DEPARTMENTS.

It might be a cute fanfic idea but it is not done. There is a reason Serena and Bernie kissed alone away from prying eyes in theatre and then in the office with the blinds closed. The fact that Serena chased Bernie onto the ward as she ran for Kiev was a major gaffe. Caused her a truckload of issues. The third kiss - STILL in the office was watershed in that the blinds were open. It establishes them as a very out and solid couple in the Holby universe.

Whether we like or not Serena and Bernie are NEVER going to show passion like the young F1’s and Foundation doctors and Registars do on the ward. It just WILL NOT HAPPEN. Just like you won’t see Ric Griffin kissing “a Serena” on the ward.

Serena, more than anyone will not allow it. It’s amazing she has broken her own rule about hospital romances at all. We will see affection between these two in their office or at Albie’s or in code on the ward but there will be no outward kissing or affection. It just would be too OOC
