(( Why my dear, I didn't know you cared for me in that way...How are you? I feel terrible, I've been neglecting poor Mizu in favor of my two stronger muses. :( ))

āColder than skin, yes. Iāve never cared for the cold, so I may be moreĀ sensitiveĀ to the fact. Bigger and better isnāt all itās cracked up to be. Why do you not want upgrades? Do they hurt to get?ā Her strides, though shorter than his, keep pace with the easy speed theyāre keeping. A sudden breeze blows up, and Mizuko tucks her hair behind her ears to keep them out of her eyes. She takes a deep breath, the air smells and tastes of a hint of metal and the refreshment of the great fresh water lake nearby. It reminds her of home, and a homesick smile creeps across her face. How long has it been since sheās gone home?Ā
āThat is a shame, any unnecessary loss of life is a tragedy by my way of thinking, which probably sounds like an oxymoron coming from someone in the military. Casualties? The word gives me the impression you were/are in the military or, mayhaps, law enforcement? Am I off in my assumptions?ā she asks with a slightly raised brow.
With his palm up, the guard wiggled his raven colored fingers. Those slender digits of his. Skinnier than what his fingers once was. Each bit of movement giving off a faint whir that he had seemed to long ignore some time ago. Though, with a side glance up to the new face, he gave her a slight shrug, āOur augmentations, the cybernetics are supposed to generate a faux body heat to mimic ours.ā
Following that, he looked away, giving her a slight nod, āThe upgrade for me is a bit different than those around the city. Itās literally taking a taser to temple. Of course it hurts. It resets my HUD and allows internal upgrades to happen naturally. Still hurts though.ā
Wrinkling his nose, the guard scanned over the sights of the patrolling cops and their box guards stomping away beside them. Humming a sound of resentment, he caught the sight of a passing officer before turning his attention back to her, āI was in law enforcement ā SWAT. Taught by military official however.ā
"I have cybernetics through out my body that allow me to feel temperature changesĀ tactilityĀ within a degree or two. I didn't ask for them either, but I didn't have a choice. The dead have no say in life, and I was dead when I got them. It's...a long story," she answered him back.
Her head turned back to him as eyes widened horrified. "Gah! That sounds terrible, Mr. Jensen." She was thankful she didn't have to think or worry about upgrading her own implants. They remained a sour subject she both despised and reluctantly needed.
Hearing the sound he made, she crooked an eyebrow at him, but didn't seek to press the issue. It appeared to be a touchy subject for him, and she could appreciate letting matters lay.

āNew York, huh, Iāve never been to New York before. Gifted youngeters? Gifted how, might I ask?ā the Commander asked curiously.
āJean, thatās a lovely name. Iām Commander Mizuko Shepard,ā she said giving a slight bow. āIt is a pleasure to meet you. This may sound like a strange question, but what year is it?ā
āWell, hopefully youāll like it. Thereās a little bit for everyone here, or at least thatās what I like to think,ā Jean explained about her home state with pride. āWhy, thank you. I like your name too. The pleasure meeting you is all mine, Commander. The year is 2013. Oh, and when I said gifted earlier I meant that students possessĀ extraordinaryĀ rare and special gifts. Abilities, if you will. Are you from the future or the past?ā
"I'm from Chicago, actually. I've never had the chance to make it to the east coast unfortunately," she said with a small frown. There were a lot of places on Earth she hadn't seen, and she wondered if she ever would when she got back to her own time.
"A possible future, 2187 to be exact. Abilities? Hmm, we have some humans, as well as other specie,s who have something like that. We call them biotics, and they have the ability to manipulate Mass Effect fields. It's what I imagineĀ telekinesisĀ would be like."

((Hey happy to see you ^^))
(( You to, madam. How are you? It's been too long. ))
āIā¦know, youāre right, and I donāt want that to happen.ā Her eyes followed his moments, and she found herself smiling at his smile and touch. āYou sound almost like a poet when you put itĀ thus.
āTruly? I donāt know how, considering it feels like I do everything wrong, but mayhaps if you give me enough chances, I learn to do things properly,ā she said looking towards the ground.
āI have just had too much time on my hands and found comfort in reading, Mizuko. But if you say I sound like a poet, I will take it for the compliment that it is.ā
Clasping his hands behind him, he continues to smile at her. āWe learn from our mistakes, and mistakes are always opportunities to grow. Weāll both learn from this in our own ways.ā He reached out a hand, offering it to her. āI look forward to the memories.ā
"Reading is a refuge I've escaped to numerous times and one that has rarely failed me. And it was most definitely a compliment."
She raised her gaze to his, and seeing his hand offered to her, took it with both of hers. "And I look forward to the journey, Thane-sama."
(( *Blows the dust off, and pushes the muse out* So, hi, how is everyone doing? Good, good. ))
Her anger began toĀ dissipate.Ā āBeing alive and knowing how your words will affect people are not the same thing. Justā¦donāt call be primitive again, okay?ā
She looks at him curiously when she mentions not having a soul. āThatās another place where we differ in thinking, Bias. If you are alive, you have a soul, at least, thatās what I believe. Itās not tangible or something you can see, but itās there.ā Her thoughts drift to her friend Legion. He had been the one to put that sentiment into her mind, and she admonished herself for being so closed minded with Bias, but damn it, heād made her so mad.
āI can get the information to you as soon as I can. Thatās very impressive. Thank you for still wanting to help. Iām sorry I snapped at you. Iām under a lot of pressure and I donāt get much sleep and when I do itās not the most restful. I am not always this confrontational.ā She rubbed the back of her neck not knowing what else to say at the moment.
āApologies, but in that respect you are incorrect about the nature of the soul. At least for the race that was responsible for my creation,ā he replied, bowing his head slightly with his words. āI will attempt to be more conscientious about my wording of responses. Social interaction with organic individuals outside of the āCommander-Subordinateā dynamic was never one of my primary functions. Or my secondary functions, for that matter.ā
Pausing for a brief moment, Bias raised a hand to his chin, as if attempting to remember exactly where that particular set of processes was stored. After a few moments he seemed to decide to himself that it was not important enough to warrant much thought. Turning away from Shepard briefly, he took a few steps further out into the artificial sunlight of the Citadel, gazing around at the water features and foliage of the Presidium Commons.
āAn impressive structure. I have seldom seen a habitat that was built exclusively for residential and political purposes, save the Capitol. I suppose that is irrelevant given that the Capitol has been gone from existence for several dozen millennia, but nonetheless I am always pleased to see stations built with purposes other than war in mind.ā
Mizu was starting to feel horrible about the whole misunderstanding. "We'll make it a learning experience for the both of us. So, if we screw more things up, we can try not to take in so personally. Sound good, Bias?"
Her eyes followed Bias's movements. and she listened quietly while he spoke. "It is impressive, and I was in awe of it the first time I saw it too. I still wonder if the Protheans built it or if it's older then even them. And you make a fair point, I can't honestly think of any other station designed for both of those things, even among the individual Citadel races." She looked out all of the beauty around her. "I wonder what would be built if there were no wars at all across the galaxy. I bet it would be breathtaking," she said with wistful grin.

Eileen followed the commander quietly, taking a look to her new ship. She had already saw the old Normandy in action, during the battle of the Citadel, that was the name of her helmsman was not new for the vanguardĀ : Joker Moreau was a legend amongst the Alliance.
Regarding Shepard, she was like she remembered herĀ : a quiet and calm person, smiling. She noted her hesitation when Mizuko spoke of the Life Support room and said nothing, not wanting to get her unconfortable.
At the end of the tour, Eileen smiled to her new CO, recapitualting the informationsĀ :
āDonāt excessively flatter the pilot, donāt bother the Turian, the door is always open. āAm used to deal with Turians, whe have two on board, and Iāll try to remember ābout the open door. Thanks a lot commander. ātis an honor to work with you again maāam, I hope Iāll be helpfull here.ā
As Mizuko left her, the young woman headed back to the crew deck and found a free locker to put her pack in it and, after a quick check of the bunks schedule, found one free during her sleeping time. She was a night owl too, and easily worked during the night schedule. That was she was efficient on the Charon.
It was a big change for her, not being the XO of the ship, but only a soldier. But she liked it, a lot. With a smile, she get to the mess, searching for some food. She should go and see the board docā at some point, but before it, she had to found something to do on board. Remembering the name Shepard gave to him, Eileen grabed a ration and searched for the specialist Traynor. If she was true, the foresaid specialist was on the CIC deck.
Mizuko rubbed the palms of her hands firmly against her eyes as she walked out of the war room. "Goddess, I don't know what's worse, the headaches or the size of the ulcer I'm going to end up with when this is all over with."
When she removed her hands and could see clearly again, Mizuko discovered Fairchild was walking up to Traynor at the same time as her. "Hey, Traynor? Will you make sure Fairchild here gets everything she needs? And make sure she gets the pick of any assignment she feels she'll be best at."
"Of course, Commander," Traynor replied.
"Oh, and Fairchild? When you're done, head back down to the mess and meet me. I've got time to talk now, but I'm in desperate need of some tea first," she added with a further rub to her eyes.
āKonānichiwa (Good morning). Yes, um, where am I exactly?ā
āWell, youāre in Upstate New York. Westchester County to be precise. That over there is a school for gifted youngsters,ā Jean said pointing towards a mansion in the near distance. Looking back and smiling at the woman, she stated, āIām Jean Grey. Whatās your name?ā
"New York, huh, I've never been to New York before. Gifted youngeters? Gifted how, might I ask?" the Commander asked curiously.
"Jean, that's a lovely name. I'm Commander Mizuko Shepard," she said giving a slight bow. "It is a pleasure to meet you. This may sound like a strange question, but what year is it?"
Her eyes met his and her heart raced as a small smile curved her lips. āForgive me, Iā¦I hate not knowing what to do. Itās not something IāmĀ accustomedĀ nor comfortable with. Things seldom play out in real life as they do in my mind.
āIāve so many feelings for you and I think itās there for you too, but itās just out of my reach. So, I will try with all my might to be patient despite my instincts telling me to leave all logic behind and plow head first into this.ā
āIt is better to nurture this, Mizuko. To force it may bring it to an end far quicker than either of us would care for.ā He stood and walked to where she stood. Putting his hands on her arms, he smiled at her. āThings are better enjoyed with patience. to watch it bloom in its own time.ā
He stepped back, not wanting to press her comfort too far. āI have enjoyed our time together. I would like to let it continue.ā
"I...know, you're right, and I don't want that to happen." Her eyes followed his moments, and she found herself smiling at his smile and touch. "You sound almost like a poet when you put itĀ thus.
"Truly? I don't know how, considering it feels like I do everything wrong, but mayhaps if you give me enough chances, I learn to do things properly," she said looking towards the ground.
(( And then I was productive for five minutes. Back to replies after a nap, I think. ))
āMayhaps, just calling me Mizuko would suffice?ā Goddess, wrestling a krogan would be less awkward than this.
All she can do is shrug. āThereās nothing to forgive, I am at a loss to know what to do either.ā She drinks the rest of her tea in silence, then returns the tea set to the tray. āWe have some things to ponder. Please excuse me, Thane-sama, I should go.ā
āPlease stay, Mizuko. I havenāt really had anyone to talk to since, well, ever. It is a welcome change this late in life.ā He looks at the tea tray and thinks on how the ceremony was. Every step was meant to be calculated, performed with precision, then move on to the next. A ritual to be in the present, not to be lost in thoughts not concerning the moment.
āWe donāt need to ponder. We just sit and enjoy the moment, as you said about the tea ceremony.ā
Her eyes met his and her heart raced as a small smile curved her lips. "Forgive me, I...I hate not knowing what to do. It's not something I'mĀ accustomedĀ nor comfortable with. Things seldom play out in real life as they do in my mind.
"I've so many feelings for you and I think it's there for you too, but it's just out of my reach. So, I will try with all my might to be patient despite my instincts telling me to leave all logic behind and plow head first into this."

Japan, huh? York pictures that, maybe standing at a shrine, or in an orchard of cherry blossom trees. Both thoughts have him smiling, and it just grows wider when she tells him heāll have to go with her.
āIād like nothing better.ā He replies to her in a soft tone.
Her answer causes him to raise his brows, interested. A doctor? Scientist? He wasnāt quite expecting those answers, especially since she had the job she currently did. Well, sheās at least a fantastic warrior, although for someone whoād apparently wanted a less⦠dangerous job, it was probably better to not bring that up.
His smile returns as her fingers caress his face and stop on his cheek. It grows wide into a grin, though, when she tells him to ask her again in ten years. All her words fill him with happiness. āWatching the stars, huh?ā He repeats in a question, his tone obviously giving away that he looks forward to that. āI canāt wait.ā
Her smile widens at his answer and she can feel her heart thump in her chest at the prospect. Goddess, she loved him more and more as they talked.
"We should go and have a Hanami, or flower viewing party. It's a time when the cherry blossoms bloom, and it's celebrate all across Japan. They even light the trees at night, so you can still see the flowers. The mere thought of you and I walking underneath the trees as it rains petals around us, and stealing kisses as the moon shines bright sounds like the most wonderful, romantic thing to me."
The questioning look encourages her to explain herself to him. "My folks were scientists, and I always liked to help people, I guess, in some ways, I never grew out of that, being a doctor just seemed like the logical extension of that desire. Things didn't work out quite how I'd expected, but I still help people in different ways." Her smile doesn't waver, because there is a happiness in what she does when she takes the time to see it.
Her thumb strokes his cheek more. "The stars, your eyes, they all sparkle when I look at them. Neither can I." She leaned in for another kiss. Her arms wrapped around him, and she whispered into his ear, "I love you so so much. Mine and yours, forever and ever."
(( So, yeah, sorry for neglecting Mizuko and all the threads Iāve got going with her. Things have been horribly weird and crazy in my personal life lately and Iāve been consumed with these two new muses Iāve been trying to flesh out.
If any of you want to completely drop our threads, because of my delay, I totally understand and wouldnāt blame you one bit. Otherwise, I will try my best to get to all of them either today or tomorrow.
Thanks for understanding, and Iām sorry I suck so much. ))
