About me
Hi! I'm Mizzy or Miz or M or whatever you wanna call me (as long as it's not rude). I use she/her pronouns, am an adult, and am part of the queer and neurodivergent umbrellas.
I am a writer who mainly posts fanfic right now. I'm looking to eventually write original works and am trying to learn to code to turn some of my stories into games! I've been writing for as long as I can remember, but have been publishing fanfiction under different names and aliases for 10 years now before finally settling on this name.
I don't really have a DNI, since I just go based off vibes. If you're a jerk to me, or if I'm just generally am uncomfortable with the content you post, I'll block you. No hard feelings, but I want my experience on the internet to feel safe and comfortable.
I write on: [AO3] [Quotev] [Wattpad]
Not all of my fanfics go on all my accounts! Some of them are limited to specific sites.
All posts about my fics will be tagged with #mizzy fics
Below the cut are my fandoms and fanfic masterlist!
Fandoms
- BATIM
- BNHA/MHA
- Cuphead
- Dandy's World
- Deltarune
- FNAF
- GODZILLA (<- special interest right here)
- Hetalia
- Monster Prom
- Nikki Games (Love Nikki, Shining Nikki, Infinity Nikki)
- Obey Me
- Show by Rock!! (DM me if you know that one)
- The Sun and Moon Show
- Undertale
- Various dark/yandere dating sims/visual novels
I don't write fanfic for all these fandoms (yet), and this list could change.
Like I just announced on the sites I upload the fic to, I am currently stepping back from the fic to work on plot summaries. I needed to take a break from the story to fix some plot points I realized weren't going to work unless I planned accordingly.
I do have another Sans fic on the backburner that I may or may not post. It all depends on how long it takes for me to finish redoing my plot map and chapter summaries. The one on the backburner is technically ready for writing, which is why I'm throwing that out there.
I also am just gonna... post whole chapters of this fic to my Tumblr? Might as well give people more places to find the full chapters.
I need to update more... but I found a rarepair that is actually making me want to drop everything to post propaganda for.
I'm keeping it a surprise, but so far their only interaction has been holding hands once and that is my only source of connection between the two FOR NOW. I will make it work. Somehow.

Chapter below the cut
After the sun had fully risen, the group began to head to the community center where, apparently, the living and citizenship situation of the monsters was going to be discussed. You followed most of the way there before deciding to go see if any of your friends were available. You knew damn well they'd want to see this. As soon as the group was out of sight, you were practically sprinting to the first person you could think of: Penelope.
Your legs carried you down the sidewalk, passing by more and more people as they walked in the direction you were coming from. You assumed they were all going to see if the monsters were real. Word did get around fairly quickly in this town — the pros and cons of living in a small community. But you didn't want to think about that right now. Penelope's apartment was all that was on your mind. Fumbling to get the spare key she gave you in case of emergencies, you let yourself into the building and practically sprinted up to the third floor (there was no elevator, and even if there was, you were too antsy to wait for it). Your fist connected with the door as you pounded on it, trembling as you tried to quell your grin. You could hear cussing and groaning from inside, and within a few seconds, your ex had opened the door in nothing but a tank top and underwear.
"What the fuck do you need," she grumbled.
"Babe? Who's there?" you could hear Melody's voice from inside.
"Get some fuckin' pants on, you're not gonna believe this shit unless you see it," you said, bouncing up and down on your feet.
"God… do you know what time it is?" Penelope groaned as she headed back into the apartment.
"Yes, I do. You're not gonna care what time it is though."
"Can you tell me fuckin' anything other than 'you'll be so excited'? Like, fuck, man, I am too tired to even think. I'm fuckin' swearing every other god damn word that's how tired I am."
"Then quit swearing and wake yourself up!"
"Bitch, just tell me what it is!"
"Monsters are real and I had a four or five hour conversation with a skeleton while his friends watched anime."
Almost instantly, you could hear scrambling as you leaned against the doorframe. Your arms were crossed, and you were grinning like an idiot. Penelope was the first to be back in front of you, ripped jeans pulled on and a loses-fitting t-shirt hanging off her shoulders while she tried to get her long, blue hair into a bun. Melody had quickly followed, having not even bothered to comb through her pink-ish-blonde curls.
"You better be serious, or I will skin you," Penelope growled.
"Why would I wake you up at six-thirty for a prank?" you asked, stepping out of the way so the two girls could leave.
"I will admit, that's less of a (y/n) thing and more of a Damien thing," Melody chimed in.
"Pay them enough, and they'll do anything," Penelope said, nudging your elbow.
"He hasn't even gotten his first job yet! What money does he have to pay me off?"
"Ok, yeah, fair, but that little shit has ways. I would know."
Just then, all three of your phones started going off with text notifications. You immediately pulled yours out, seeing a photo of a monster on the street and Damien's caption "Nani the fuck?" You practically snorted, covering your mouth as you glanced up to see Penelope and Melody just staring at the photo.
"Oh my god…" Melody breathed.
"Holy shit, you weren't lying," Penelope mumbled.
"You guys got dressed that fast thinking I was lying?" you mused.
"Shut up, we're taking my car."
Penelope practically dragged the two of you out of the apartment and down to the old red truck she had been driving since she got her license. The three of you got in, and she was immediately heading to pick up the twins while Melody frantically called them to get them up in time. You were practically vibrating with excitement, explaining how your shift had gone to the couple. It was funny how now that you were away from the monsters, it was just hitting you that this was really happening.
By the time you got to the community center, a small crowd of people had gathered outside. It was pretty clear they were being denied entrance, and as you got out of the car, you could hear the faint sound of someone using a microphone in the building. The words were unclear, and you could make out some of the monsters inside through the windows.
"What the hell… we get all this way and we can't even go inside," Penelope grumbled, crossing her arms and leaning against the driver's side door.
"They're probably explaining the local laws or something," Melody said.
"How long is that gonna take?"
"You think either of us would know?" you mumbled.
"Hey, you're the one getting cozy with a skeleton. I thought he would've told you," Penelope said.
You rolled your eyes and hit the back of your hand against her arm. You could hear her snort from beside you.
"First of all, no. That's is not what happened. Second, literally anyone else in that group would've had a higher chance at knowing, they were just more interested in watching anime," you grumbled.
"Which is… extreamly fair," Melody chimed in.
"You two are fuckin' weird," Penelope mumbled.
"Guess you have a thing for weirdos," you mumbled back.
"We're here! We're here!"
The three of you turned to see two very familiar faces: Wyn and Cole — the twins in everything but biology. They were apparently born on the same day in the same hospital roughly fifteen minutes apart and had been inseparable best friends since. Wyn's long, mouse-brown hair was half-braided, clearly the work of his younger sister who you vaguely remembered enjoying playing with people's hair, and Cole looked like he had basically rolled out of bed, threw on pants and shoes, and sprinted all the way here.
"Where are they?" Cole practically wheeze out, putting his hands on his knees to catch their breath.
"Inside learning lame laws," Penelope said, gesturing to the building.
"How long ago was that?" Wyn asked.
"Maybe like thirty minutes tops," you said.
"Fuck! They're gonna be in there for hours! And then we're gonna start practice late!"
You snorted, watching as he dramatically collapsed onto the sidewalk.
"Christ almighty… you're being a diva today," Penelope said.
"Ugh… this is hell… I barely got an hour of sleep and now I have to wait," Cole whined, moving to lean against Penelope's car and slide down until he was sitting on the concrete. "I'm gonna pass out or throw up…"
"You and me both, man," you said, taking a seat beside him.
"Do you two wanna sleep? You can lay down in the truck bed if you want," Penelope offered.
"Please," the two of you said in unison.
It didn't take long for you and Cole to lay down in the bed of the truck. Both Wyn and Melody had offered up their jackets to use as pillows. It wasn’t the most comfortable spot to sleep in, but uncomfortable sleep was better than no sleep in your opinion. You could hear the other three talking amongst themselves. Shifting slightly, you turned to look at the black-haired man beside you.
"I met some of them," you whispered.
"Yeah?" Cole whispered back.
"Mhm. One of them is really chill, like you."
"Heh… nice."
"He's also got better jokes than you."
"Pft— shut up. You're clearly so tired it's making you delusional."
You laughed slightly as well, everything fading around you as you tried to think of some sort of response.

Chapter below the cut
You felt someone gently shaking your shoulder. When your eyes fluttered open, you were immediately greeted with a skull. You screamed, shooting out of your chair and falling backwards. You hit the back counter with a thud! The skeleton started laughing, and you could hear voices coming from one of the rentable rooms.
"Sorry, kid. Probably shouldn't have gotten in your face, huh?" Sans said, covering his mouth— teeth?
"Nah, you're good. I… I don't know why I forgot I'm friends with a skeleton now," you mumbled, using the counter to pull yourself up.
You watched as the other monsters and Frisk came out of the room, looking rather concerned.
"A-are you alright?" Alphys asked.
"Yeah, I just scared the soul out of the kid," Sans said with a shrug.
"Not a kid."
"Sans, that was very rude!"
You sighed, glancing at the time. It was almost 5 AM, and your shift would be over soon. Part of you was glad you had slept, even just for a couple hours. Now you could actually hold up your promise of showing these guys around for at least a little. Maybe you'd need an energy drink or two, but at least you wouldn't be dead on your feet.
"Not to interrupt, but I must be going. I was told I would be meeting with the mayor in the morning. I assume you will be alright on your own, my child?" Toriel interjected, her last sentence being directed more towards Frisk.
You watched the small child nod with a big grin on their face, yet there was still a look of worry on Toriel's face.
"I can keep an eye on them until you're done," you offered.
"Oh, that would be wonderful. You don't mind, do you? You've already been awake for so long," Toriel said.
"It's not an issue. I've stayed up way longer," you said with a smile, waving your hand.
Not true. Not true at all. You always crashed after work. But, you got the feeling you could get a few more hours of being awake before you'd need to go home.
"Thank you," Toriel softly said. She knelt down and placed a hand on Frisk's shoulder. "Call me if you need anything, alright?"
With that, Toriel left the shop. The rest of the monsters all began talking amongst themselves. You began wrapping up your shift, writing down what all you had given to the monsters, texting the list to your boss. Right as you finished up, one of your coworkers came in. You could see they were about to say hi, before freezing and staring at the group of monsters.
"What…?" they quietly said.
"Hello, new human! It is very nice to meet you!" Papyrus exclaimed, walking up to your coworker.
They looked between you and Papyrus, opening and closing their mouth without making a sound.
"Yeah, monsters are real. Cool, huh?" you said, leaning over the counter.
"… does Andy know?"
"Mhm. Nearly passed out."
"Can I please get a picture?"
You had to hold back a laugh, watching as Papyrus practically squealed over his "first photo shoot with a fan". While the sight was absolutely wholesome, you knew not every reaction would be like this. If the people you'd dated gave you any idea about what Ebott could be like, then you were worried for the monsters who thought this was their happy ending.
Eventually, you were able to trade off with your coworker and you headed outside with Frisk and their monster friends. You could see a warm glow just over the horizon. You felt a tug on your sleeve, and you glanced down.
"Can we take them to the park on the hill?" Frisk quietly asked.
You gave them a small smile, nodding.
"You wanna lead?" you asked.
Frisk gave you their own enthusiastic nod, practically lighting up. They bolted ahead, motioning for everyone to follow. You chuckled, trailing behind the group as they walked. You could hear Frisk excitedly explaining everything they passed. A few people who had early morning shifts or jogs were stopping to just stare at your group. You just did your best to smile and wave like this was all completely normal.
Eventually, you made it to the park. You watched as everyone took a seat on the hillside. You found a bench nearby, sitting close but not too close. Your journal sat in your lap, and you leaned back. It had been a while since you watched the sun rise. It was nice. You could feel the warm rays against your skin. Then, you felt a boney hand on your shoulder. Opening your eyes, you saw Sans standing beside you.
"I thought letting you nap at the shop would give you enough energy to stay awake for the sunrise," he mused.
"I wasn't asleep," you mumbled.
"The sun says otherwise."
You glanced over his shoulder, seeing the sun was much higher in the sky than you remember. Maybe you did doze just a little?
"You alright there, punk?" you heard Undyne call.
"All good!" you called back.
"You still wanna hang out with us?" Sans asked.
"Yeah, I wouldn't mind that," you said with a shrug. "Who knows, maybe I can bother some of my friends to tag along."
"Sounds cool."
You watched as Sans offered you his hand. You were about to take it, when you paused. You saw something pink poking out of his jacket sleeve. You raised an eyebrow, crossing your arms and retracting your hand.
"Sans…"
"What?"
"I see that."
"No you don't."
"Yes, I do."
Sans grin widened, the whoopee cushion slipping out from his sleeve and into the palm of his hand.

Chapter below the cut
It took a minute for you to calm down. When you finally did, though, you were close to tears with how hard you had been laughing. Sans' smile seemed to grow into a shit-eating grin, and you could see the lights in his eye sockets brighten.
"That was horrible. I hate you," you said, though there was no malice in your voice.
"You're grinning."
"Shut up!"
Sans laughed, his arms wrapping around where his stomach would've been if there were skin and flesh on his bones. You tried so hard to force a straight face, but couldn't hold it for long and just burst out laughing again. Your sides hurt, and you could barely breathe, but this was the most you'd laughed in a while.
"Ok, ok. I'll stop. No more pranks," Sans said, raising his hands.
"Good. I don't need to laugh myself to death," you mused.
"Alright, kid. No more pranks."
“Hey! I'm not a kid! I'm twenty-four!”
You watched Sans go stiff in his chair, the little white lights in his eyes vanishing for a moment before returning. Even still, he looked spooked. As you stepped closer, you could see his hands gripping his shorts. You didn't like his expression. It made something twist in your stomach.
"You… ok?" you slowly asked.
"I-I… yeah. Yeah. Sorry. I uh… I don't know what came over me," he said, finally letting go of his pants to rub the back of his neck.
"It's alright. I'm… guessing you're pretty stressed, huh?" you said, bringing him a cup of coffee and setting it on the counter in front of him.
"Yeah… and I've just got this awful case of de-ja-vu, ya know? It's weird, but… I swear I had a dream that was… really similar to what's happening right now," he said with a laugh.
"Is that why you commented on my journal?"
"Heh, yeah. Wasn't in the dream. At least, not that I can remember."
You let out a small chuckle, watching him drink the coffee you'd given him. For some reason, you weren't finding it weird that he could drink it.
"So, why an orange heart?" Sans asked.
"Eh, no clue. It just kinda… spoke to me," you said with a shrug.
"Is your soul orange?"
Your brows furrowed as you stared at Sans. Soul color? Souls had colors?
"I have a soul?"
The words slipped from your mouth before you could stop them, and you immediately face-palmed.
"Pft— of course ya do, kid. Everyone has a soul," Sans said.
"Ok, yeah, I know, but like… I have a soul. That people — or monsters — can see. And it has a color?" you asked.
"Mhm. I'm not all that brushed up on souls, but humans souls can be different colors, and it's got a special meaning to it," Sans said with a shrug. "You can ask Al or the king. Heh, maybe Toriel knows somethin' about 'em as well?"
"I think I'll stick with asking Alphys or Toriel," you said, rubbing your arm. "I don't think the king would want to be bothered by a random human asking him questions about souls."
You looked back down at your journal. Your hand idly brushed against the cover, staring at the orange heart. Did you somehow subconsciously know your soul was orange? Was that even possible? If your soul was orange, what did that mean? Were there special souls that could give people powers? Part of you wanted to figure out what your soul color was. Maybe you could guess the trait if you just saw it?
"So… are you able to like… show me my soul?" you asked.
"You want me, a monster you just met, to pull out your soul and reveal the most intimate and personal things about you?"
Almost instantly, your face flushed red.
"N-no! No! Never mind! D-don't— don't do that!" you exclaimed, quickly waving your hands in front of you.
Sans snorted and burst out laughing, leaning against the counter to presumably keep himself upright.
"It's fine, kid. Your soul comes out when fighting a monster. It's not that personal," he said, grinning up at you. "But man, that face you made. Priceless."
"Ugh, you are a jerk. You are such a jerk," you said, trying to stop your smile by pressing your lips into a thin line.
"What can I say? I'm never one to pass up an opportunity," he said with a shrug. "So, you still wanna see your soul?"
"Nope. I am good for tonight. It's gonna take like… a day before my brain stops assuming I'm sharing some sort of super intimate thing with a monster I've known for… five hours," you said.
You finished your cup of coffee, yawning slightly. Damn, you were starting to feel really tired now. Granted, it was like… three in the morning, but you should've been used to this shift by now. Instead, your eyes were drooping and you felt the urge to get more caffeine in your system. You got up and stretched, grabbing the paper cup you'd had your first cup of coffee in and heading back to the machine.
"Tired?"
"Mhm. Need more energy juice."
"Hey… why don't you hold off on that and take a nap instead? I can wake you up if anyone comes in."
You paused and glanced back at Sans. He didn't look or sound like he was up to any mischief, but none of his other jokes or pranks started off that way.
"You sure? You're not just gonna let me embarrass myself or steal from the register?" you slowly asked.
"Nah, I'm not that kind of monster. Plus, the head of the royal guard is one room over. I wouldn't want to turn into a criminal with her nearby," Sans said.
You bit the inside of your cheek, stealing glances at the coffee pot. A nap sounded so good right now, but if you got caught, you'd be in serious trouble. After hemming and hawing for a bit, you slowly set the cup back down on the counter and sat back down in one of the chairs.
"Ok… but you gotta swear you won't try anything," you said.
"I promise, kid. No funny business," Sans said.
"Stop calling me kid."
"Sorry, sorry."
You let out a soft laugh, shaking your head as you lowered your chin onto your folded arms. Before you knew it, your eyes had fluttered closed and you drifted off into a light doze.

Chapter below the cut
"You didn't have that before."
"What?"
"What?"
You stared at the short skeleton across from you, eyes narrowing slightly. It had been two days since you had gotten your journal, and you had mostly been writing random things in it. Whenever you brought it around, you'd usually get compliments on the cover or questions about what it was for. Yet, somehow, the skeleton monster before you was more confused by the fact that you even had a journal. It was like he knew you, knew that you shouldn't have this book.
Which was fucking crazy considering the fact you were still reeling from the fact that monsters weren't just some local legend.
"I'm… sorry?" you said, leaning back on the stool.
"H-hehe, sorry. I… I don't know why I said that," the skeleton said, rubbing the back of his skull.
Not even an hour ago, a small group of monsters and their human companion had come into your workplace. They were all pretty friendly, but the shortest of the two skeletons in the group, Sans, had been giving you weird looks. You tolerated it at first. You were honestly used to being looked at funny by customers. Yet, the conversation between the two of you had this air of tension. He didn’t say anything outright concerning, but the way he treated you… It was like he was someone you were supposed to know, waiting to see how long it would take before you recognized him.
"It's… It's fine. You had a pretty long journey coming here, right? Long trek down the mountain, probably not used to… everything," you carefully said.
"Heh, yeah," he said, shifting his weight from foot to foot.
Things had been awkward between the two of you from the start. When he first came into the shop, he looked like he'd seen a ghost. He was fumbling over his words and constantly spacing out, which, based on the comments his friends made, was not normal. Yet, he still chose to come and hang out at the counter with you.
"It looks really nice. You do the cover yourself?" Sans asked.
"Yeah. I just… I don’t even know why I got this stupid thing. It just spoke to me, and so I bought it," you said with a shrug.
"Can I see what's inside?"
You stifled a laugh with your shirt sleeve.
"You want me to show you, a random stranger who is also a monster, my super secret diary with all my greatest hopes, dreams, and fears?" The two of you stared in silence at each other for a moment. You snickered. Sans snickered as well. Then, you slid the book over to him with a smile. "Joking. All I wrote was some stuff about my friends and a rant about my dating life," you said with a shrug.
"You dated?" Sans asked, flipping open the book as his eye-lights skimmed the pages.
"What? I'm good-looking. People want me," you mused, playfully shoving his arm.
Sans looked you up and down. You raised an eyebrow. Then, he chuckled and shook his head.
"Yeah, fair enough," he said.
You watched as he went back to looking through the few pages you had written. Most of it talked about your hobbies or games you liked playing. Then, he stopped at one entry. It was two pages covered with paragraphs about your friends and photos Alex had taken during hangouts. There was one in particular that Sans' gaze seemed to linger on: a photo of you and Penelope very awkwardly trying to do that couple's heart pose and failing miserably because of the height difference. She was over 6 feet tall and loved wearing platforms. And you were, well… not that tall.
"This one of your exes?" he asked, tapping the photo. Though there was something about the way he said it that made you think he already knew the answer to that.
"Yeah, she is," you mumbled, glancing down at what you wrote next to the photo.
"This is Penelope, my ex. You'd think that would mean we aren't friends anymore, but we are. We were friends before we started dating, and we both wanted to stay friends after. It was awkward at first, especially since she started dating again pretty fast, but now we just tease each other. Her girlfriend is pretty cool. Kimberly likes her, and I guess that's what matters most to me. I'm not mad we broke up. I'm just mad I haven't found anyone like her since."
"I'm gonna go make more coffee. I can feel my eyes drooping," you said, getting up from the stool and heading over to the coffee pot.
Your head was swimming with this weird, tense feeling that something was wrong. You couldn’t place how or why, but something just didn't feel right. Something was missing. And even you had to admit, something felt wrong with Sans. His words felt cautious, like he knew something about you. It was only when the noises from the coffee pot stopped that you realized you had been lost in your thoughts the entire time it was brewing.
"You want a cup?" you asked over your shoulder.
"Heh, why not?" you heard Sans say from behind you, and you could practically hear the shrug from his tone.
You poured two cups, rocking back and forth on the balls of your feet. The paper cups were uncomfortably hot from the liquid inside them, but you still picked them up anyway and turned to head back to your seat. However, a bright pink whoppee cushion on the stool immediately caught your attention.
"That has to be the laziest attempt at-"
"Frrrrrrrrrrrrt…"
You froze, feeling something squish beneath your foot as the noise silenced everything else in the shop. You stared at Sans for a moment, the two of you not making a move. Then, you slowly set the cups back down on the back counter and let yourself sink to the floor. You couldn't stop the wheeze that left your body.
"H-holy shit. That— oh my god, that was— I can't—" you barely managed to wheeze out.
You were trying so hard not to laugh. That prank shouldn't have been funny. Fart jokes and whoppee cushion pranks hadn't been funny since middle school. You told yourself you'd never stoop that low again.
I have like four hours before I go offline to travel. Quick, gimme prompts/one-shot ideas so I'm not bored on a 12-13 hour flight. I'll post when I've landed, trust
I keep forgetting to fucking tag my stuff. I am going crazy trying to remember that tagging means literally everything to getting this shit seen and not taken down. Got me fuckin stressed out.

Chapter below the cut
You got home and were now sitting at your desk, just staring at the first page of the journal. You had already taken the time to decorate the cover. Now, you just have to write in it. That seemed to be the hard part. What the hell were you supposed to write? Was this going to be a diary? Do you talk about past memories or interests? Was it a mistake to buy something you weren't going to actually use?
With a sigh, you pushed yourself away from your desk and spun in your computer chair. Maybe you should've done more research on how to journal before you actually bought something.
You leaned to snatch your phone off your desk, shooting off a message in a group chat with your friends.
Me: "Wtf is writing wtf do I put in this stupid thing"
You snapped a photo of your journal from a really awkward angle and sent it with your text. Not even a minute later, your phone pinged with a notification.
Green hair w/ pronouns: "Fuckass loser can't even write"
Me: "Stfu you can't keep a girlfriend"
Penny: "Lol"
Penny thief: "Maybe try writing one of those introduction pages like I did?"
You looked at the photo Melody sent, seeing an extraordinarily stylized and colorful page full of information on her. It looked like one of those introduction templates people use for their blogs, but with highlighter and old stickers from the 2000s that were barely holding onto the page.
Me: "Thanks, Mel. At least someone here has my back"
Penny thief: "No problem. I can come over with supplies if you want"
Alex: "Let me come over too. I have Polaroids"
Me: "Bet. Kim would probably love to see you guys"
Green hair w/ pronouns: "Can I come over?"
Me: "Take back me being a fuckass loser"
You watched as typing bubbles kept appearing and disappearing. It took roughly two minutes, but Damien finally responded.
Green hair w/ pronouns: "Fuck you I'm telling my sisters you were mean to me"
Me: "Do it. Only one of them will side with you"
Green hair w/ pronouns: "🖕🖕🖕👉👈"
You snorted, covering your mouth as you tried not to cackle. Even after years of experiencing his emoji responses, you still couldn't wrap your head around what the hell this guy was trying to get across.
Your friend group was… strange. It consisted of seven people: you, your ex Penelope, her new girlfriend Melody, the twins Wyn and Cole, Alex, and this kid named Damien that Penelope used to tutor and just wouldn't go away. Not that you guys didn't like him. He was just very obviously the annoying little brother of the group. Sometimes, coworkers and friends from outside the group would join. The main group chat just consisted of the seven of you, though.
About forty-five minutes later, you heard your mom talking to someone in the entryway. You stepped out of your room, poking your head down the hall and seeing Alex and Melody standing in the doorway. Melody had a massive canvas bag of what looked like art supplies. It almost rivaled Kimberly’s bag. Almost.
"Hey," you said, stepping into the entryway and giving a small wave.
"Dude, you do not know how long I've been waiting to get someone else interested in this hobby," Melody said, stepping further in and taking off her shoes.
"I take photos for you," Alex mumbled.
"Yes, and I thank you, but I want someone to write with and compare books," she huffed.
"Would either of you like something to eat? Or maybe something to drink?" your mother asked.
"We're ok, Mrs. (l/n)," Alex said.
"Alright. Just let me know if you want anything."
You watched your mom head back to the kitchen, and as soon as she was gone for over three seconds, Melody elbowed Alex.
"I didn't say no," she grumbled.
"You never want anything, anyway."
"You don't know that."
"Girl."
"Ladies, back to my room so we can do this," you said, grabbing them both by the arm and pulling them with you back to your room.
Once inside, you grabbed the notebook you'd finished decorating and handed it to Melody.
"Sick," she whispered, looking it over.
"So, why the orange heart?" Alex asked, tilting their head.
"Mh-mh, just spoke to me," you said with a shrug.
"Dude, we're matching. Mine is a pink heart," Melody said, grabbing her own journal from her bag and holding it side-by-side with yours.
She wasn't wrong. The decorations on the covers were obviously different, but they both had hearts in the center of the covers.
"I could get a yellow one, and then it would be like… sunrise colors?" Alex said.
"Sunrise trio."
"That is so cringe, never mind."
"We're all cringe here, Alex. Just embrace it," you said, taking your journal back.
After a bit more bickering and bantering between the three of you, you all sat down on the floor and spread out the art supplies Melody brought. Alex had a box full of Polaroids and printed pictures that your group had taken over the years, and you all worked on just making things with the photos. You and Melody were adding them into your journals, and Alex was making a collage with another bag of photos that they said were off limits.
"So… how are you feeling?" Melody asked, glancing up at you.
"What do you mean?" you asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You were pretty messed up last night. Before we started drinking, I mean," she said.
"Yeah, you… You were scaring us," Alex added.
Taking a deep breath, you sat back and sighed.
"Oh, about as good as anyone could be when they find out they've been cheated on. Again," you mumbled. You let your gaze travel down to your notebook, biting the inside of your cheek. "You're lucky, Mel. Penny was the only good ex I had."
"Sorry-"
"Don't. I'm happy for the two of you, ok? Don't feel bad," you cut her off.
"You're just upset with your luck," Alex finished, and you nodded to their words.
"It's just maddening that like… out of everyone I've dated, out of the countless partners, I've had one good one. And Ebott is a small town! Like, how have I managed to date every toxic person here when the majority of the town is full of kind people?!"
"Fuck 'em. Fuck dating. You don't need anyone. Fuck anyone who says otherwise."
"Tell me how else I'm supposed to cuddle! Cause last time I checked, it would be too awkward to cuddle my ex and her new girlfriend, and everyone else in the friend group doesn't like being touched!"
Melody snorted, covering her mouth. You wanted to glare at her, but couldn’t.
The three of you spent the rest of the day chatting and just working on your projects. Kimberly came in at one point, setting up her own little section on the floor for her drawings. It wasn’t until close to 5 PM that Melody and Alex needed to go. As you waved bye to them, you held your notebook to your chest. It felt really important now.
