I have completed a new trilogy. It came a bit like "out of the blue" since most melodies and harmonics were computer-generated. That was the idea behind this experiment. I call the result weird and beautiful generative music, located in the house genre.

Recently i've experimented with the whole-tone scale and created an experimental trilogy on the guitar. It’s weird minimal jazz, but it can be very nice after listening to it a few times. I had no big production in mind, everything is more improvised than arranged. It’s always great to explore another sound dimensions than the usual major/minor/pentatonic :)

214 album and game released

My new album '214' with over 70 minutes of original music is out.

The album also comes with the 214 space minigame, playable in any modern browser without the need to install anything.

Of course, the website and game are pixel-intense and the mp3/320kBit files are also heavier than the average music files - so please have the patience to deal with the loading times, it's worth it.

At least i give away the album for free! You only need to finish the 214 game successfully - but probably that isn't too hard ;)

I've written a few words about the album concept on the website 214music.com. I will add more '214' details to this blog every now and then. Follow :)

No Revolution

Oh no! The title is wrong! Because it IS a revolution for me to push out the first 'single' of my new album, since you won't hear any guitars or rock grooves on that track on that album. Be prepared, Metalheads :)

The album is called '214', and the track's name is 'No Revolution':

While the album contains the full-length 6:03 album version of this song, i decided to create a shorter 'radio edit' and release it as a teaser, before the album goes online.

It's actually a sad song, although it features a catchy groove. I don't like to talk too much about my inspirations and the ideas behind my songs. It's instrumental music and your spirit's free.

The radio edit is not only a cut of the long version, it was also mixed differently and holds some tiny changes. Most parts, especially the drums, were played by hand. That's not too common for electronic music.

I make 'no revolution (radio edit) available on bandcamp, youtube, vimeo and soundcloud.

A year ago i released my 15-track instrumental album 'General Wasting' on its website generalwasting.com and a bit later also on bandcamp.com.

Now it's time for a little birthday party. For all this weekend you'll get a fat 50% discount! That is, i mean, wow! 50%. No wonder that i cannot fuel up my Porsche anymore!

214 Changes

In January i wrote about that i'd finished drum parts for my next album. I also talked about 3 songs that would fit into another album concept. Well, it just happened that this second album already has been finished. So i simply flip release dates and push out '214' (2nd album in '14) at first.

I have no actual release date yet, but at least i plan to upload some teasers soon. The album contains 12 epic instrumentals - massive melodies and huge soundscapes guaranteed :)

General Wasting by hoffmeister

I left the "download the album for nuts" phases behind and decided to become a dedicated bandcamp.com member.

Now it's very easy to listen to every GW song in full length and get high quality digital downloads for a very fair price.

What i can say so far, bandcamp amazes me. It's clean and simple, has a good "no-crap" reputation and holds many interesting tools that make it easy to release, present and sell music.

The virtual booklet on generalwasting.com will stay online, but downloading the album is only possible from my new bandcamp page.

I also deactivated the free "Rock" and "Prog" EPs, since you can listen to all songs in full-length for free in the bandcamp player. The release of the "Epic" EP has been canceled for the same reason.

Been busy...

January went pretty fast since i was very busy on making new music.

The most important step was to finish the drum parts for the next album. They are done but last week i decided to add two more songs to the album, so i got to return to the drum seat again. Anyway, i plan to record the other instruments during Feb/March and release it this summer.

I also created 3 other songs that will probably fit into the concept of a probable follow-up album.

Further more song projects have been started and finally an old friend and leader of a band i was a member 'bout 25 years ago, asked me today to track one or perhaps even more drum part for him. I hope he will give me permission to talk more about that soon.

The next months i will not get bored, i guess :)

Rock Compilation

Yet another outdated information, since i moved to bandcamp.com. Read more about that decision.

My album 'General Wasting' contains 15 multi-genre tracks, making it hard for the casual epic-prog-rocker to find appropriate songs at first sight.

The next album...

...is in the works. 

Although 'GW' has been released only about 2 months ago and i still have plans to promote it, i recently started another creative process. I have plenty of ideas already recorded and some of them don't get out of my head.

I'm a musician. I must make music.

So i set up my equipment, polished the instruments and even started jamming. It's a very early experimental phase and i have no idea where it leads me...
