i think it'd be pretty reasonable for rumi to be the one to avoid any alcohol just in case she ends up telling someone about her biggest secret ever. so, not sure about your question whether there are any fics that entertain that idea. maybe because its execution would require good reasoning?
i have just thought of a good reason. entertain me for a minute, please and thank you, and imagine this: and i'll set the scene for you.
it's been a long day. and i'm talking LONG. stressful, deadlines, alarms, throw in a quick demon hunt as well. and to wrap the evening up, huntrix has been invited to a fancy dinner of some sorts. and rumi, for the purposes of this ramble, has to purposefully keep her patterns down. though they don't cover much but her sleeves and chest, they'd slither forwards if she lets them. and they're itchy and stabby and will not shut up. nothing can make them shut up. emotional outbursts do not help.
they're seated, exchanging pleasantries with the other guests. the waiter pours everyone a glass of wine, and here rumi is, holding the glass, cursing herself for getting in this situation. but you know, maybe she's paranoid. maybe one glass can't hurt, right?
so she takes a sip. and then another, and then another. and she finds, surprisingly, that she feels more at ease. not just mentally, but physically tooāher patterns are quiet. quieter than they have ever been.
she excuses herself to go to the bathroom to check on them and they look dormant. calm. like tattoos rather than pulsing and shifting marks.
this is a revelation that soon spirals out of control.
it starts with two-three shots of soju on the weekends. then its up to four and five, including friday. then its a bottle that lasts barely three days.
because she has never felt this in control.
for this to make sense (since that much alcohol would throw any mortal into a state of disarray), alcohol's effect on a half-demon body would mainly target the patterns. after bigger quantities, it would also take a hit on rumi's emotions. only later would focus and decision making deteriorate.
basically, mira and zoey do not notice it at first. rumi seems more aloof and they don't complain. and then they notice that her breath has residue of alcohol. and they comment on it, but that just pushes her to hide her stash. under the bed, behind the piles of clothes in the closet,...
and then you've got alcoholic!rumi that has to learn how to deal with her patterns in a way that isn't drinking herself to oblivion.
also throw in romantic/sexual tension because polytrix and yeah.
with alcohol keeping her patterns at bay, telling zoemira the truth has never been harder!
