Tatiana Blass, Penelope, wife of Odysseus
…this is relevant to my world…
Pretty sure I’ve reblogged this before and pretty sure I added Edna St. Vincent Millay’s “An Ancient Gesture” then too and oops pretty sure I don’t care, get in bitches we’re reading poetry:
I thought, as I wiped my eyes on the corner of my apron: Penelope did this too. And more than once: you can’t keep weaving all day And undoing it all through the night; Your arms get tired, and the back of your neck gets tight; And along towards morning, when you think it will never be light, And your husband has been gone, and you don’t know where, for years. Suddenly you burst into tears; There is simply nothing else to do. And I thought, as I wiped my eyes on the corner of my apron: This is an ancient gesture, authentic, antique, In the very best tradition, classic, Greek; Ulysses did this too. But only as a gesture,—a gesture which implied To the assembled throng that he was much too moved to speak. He learned it from Penelope… Penelope, who really cried.
when lizzo said “self love is survival” and when hannah gadsby said “do you understand what self-deprecation means when it comes from somebody who already exists in the margins? it’s not humility. it’s humiliation” and when mitski said “i used to rebel by destroying myself, but realized that’s awfully convenient to the world. for some of us our best revolt is self preservation”
when audre lorde said “caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare”

Kristin Pritchard Help Save Toast the Miracle Kitten This is Toast cuddling with her brother Ghost. I found both of them abandoned by a fera
Desperately seeking help for this little girl. We’re doing everything we can to help her survive.
This is Toast and her brother/best friend Ghost. She has a rare heart defect called Persistent Right Aortic Arch. This means that a part of her heart has wrapped itself around her esophagus, preventing her from eating anything solid. She’s part of a bonded pair with her brother, meaning they are attached in a way most kittens aren’t. They do everything together, and Ghost takes care of his sister (even cleaning her and showing her how to use the litterbox). We don’t know how Ghost will fare if something happens to Toast.
If you can give anything at all, even 50 cents, all proceeds will go directly to her surgery to give her a chance at life. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this. I can’t lose my little girl...she’s fought so hard to stay alive and I won’t give up on her.
