How do you think a meeting between Sugishita and Nirei’s family would go? (Nirei gives me ‘grew up with a stressed single mother’ energy personally)
This one's tricky since we haven't seen Nirei's family at all, so I have literally nothing to go on.
I do like the idea of him having a single mom (I can see him getting a lot his quirks and personality from her. And I like that it lines up with the trend of the Furin boys living outside of the nuclear family structure.) so we'll run with it.
I can see her being overworked (she has to work two or more jobs to pay the bills. Single mom life) and that makes her a little spacey, but I can't imagine her being stressed at home because Nirei keeps the house clean (like do you think he's leaving his dirty socks everywhere and dishes in the sink? Absolutely not.)
Nirei tells his mom that he wants to invite someone over and she's like, yeah sure just tell me when. Maybe tomorrow? (Whenever Sugishita is ready honestly because he doesn't want to force him if he's not ready.)
Nirei casually brings it up to Sugi and Sugi chokes on his drink or runs into a wall or something (because Nirei just invited him over to his house to meet his mom.)
They walk to Nirei's place after school and Mama Nirei calls and says that she's going to be late (she's held up at work because Japanese work culture is brutal.) Sugi's like, I can come back tomorrow and Nirei's like, nah, we'll just go the grocery store and cook dinner ourselves, she'll be here.
Nirei and Sugi get back just as Mama Nirei is getting home. And she's a whirlwind of a woman. She's locks in on Sugi, "Is this your friend? Nice to meet you! Aki didn't tell me you were so tall and handsome. And you have such beautiful hair! He didn’t make you carry the groceries by yourself did he? Please, come inside." If Sugi thought Nirei was chatty, his mom is an Olympic sprinter.
She asks what they planned to make for dinner and takes over the operation, giving instructions (Sugi responds with 'Yes Ma'am!' every time she asks him to do something and she thinks it's really cute. She asks him to move the salt shaker two inches to the left, just to see if he would do it and to mess with him a little. 'Yes Ma'am!')
While they're cooking, Nirei and his mom both bump their heads on an open cabinet at the same time. Yeah, Sugi can see the resemblance.
During their meal, Mama Nirei realizes that Sugi is hopelessly in love with her son and she thinks oh, that's why you wanted me to meet him. After Sugi leaves, She asks Nirei how he feels about him and they have a long mother-son talk about it. She becomes their number one supporter.
She teases Nirei about it every once in a while asking when she gets to walk him down the aisle.
