"Chuck Stone, 6-foot, 3-inches of steely-eyed determination. Sat at the interrogation table. His mind was a blank. A complete blank. He literally could not think of one single, solitary thing. Then he noticed a spot. It looked like syrup left over from breakfast, which made him realize it was lunchtime. A bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich--or BLT, as Chuck stone called it--would really hit the spot. The secret, Chuck realized, was real mayonnaise. Not that healthy crap his wife kept buying for their son. I mean, what's the point of t-t-t-t-t-t-t? Tea for two, two for tea."
This is a lighter. It belonged to my favorite actor, Paul Newman. One day, he came to the restaurant where I was waitressing and accidentally left it behind. For the first time in my life, I did something I wasn't supposed to, and slipped it into my pocket. One of the customers saw and said, 'Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me.' That customer turned out to be the love of my life, your grandfather. So, my Alex, who I love so dearly, who's probably too much like me for her own good, every once in a while, don't be afraid to break the rules. You never know what can happen.
Gracie Dunphy's note to Alex, which was given along with a lighter.
What qualifies someone as a hero? Obviously, a hero has to be someone we respect. A person we look up to. A person who is generous of spirit, is willing to grow and learn…Maybe it’s the person you love most in the world. Or the guy who makes the most out of life, no matter what anyone thinks. For me, though, the hero in my family is my family. Because of who we are together.
‘Goodnight, Gracie’ - Everyone flies down to Florida to be with Phil after his mom’s passing. Claire helps Phil with Gracie’s last wish for Frank, and the kids reflect on the gifts grandma left for them. Gloria has to contend with an outstanding arrest warrant in Florida, Cam finds himself fitting right into an elderly women’s group at Frank’s retirement community, and Jay runs into a pivotal person from his past, on the season finale of ‘Modern Family,’ WEDNESDAY, MAY 22.
