The Final Artwork
For my final artwork I have made a model of the limbic system and painted it in aboriginal dot style painting. The colours used represent the different emotions and moods people feel. The black background represents my theory that the mind is empty or 'black' without emotion and the changing colours show that mood can change dramatically, from one extreme to another
Experimentation with dot painting and colour
Practising how to dot paint and how to represent the different colours and their sizes. Think I might need to change the contrast of the colours a bit but otherwise I think this will look good on the final artwork.
Experimentation and materials used
I will be using these exact colours for my experimentation and for my final work. Each colour represents a different mood or emotion.
I have fashioned a dot painting stick out of match sticks and blue-tak so I will get a perfect circle each time. This is similar to how dot paintings are done today by Indigenous Australians.

Fauvism
The movement of wild, thick brushstrokes and vibrant colours. My final work will be influenced a little bit my fauvism as I will be using large and small brushstrokes with vibrant and dull colours.

Blue is the male principle, stern and spiritual. Yellow the female principle, gentle, cheerful and sensual. Red is matter, brutal and heavy and always the colour which must be fought and vanquished by the other two.
Franz Marc quote. Found this quote through my research about colour symbolism. I like the part about red being brutal and heavy as I have always seen red like that myself. The colour red will be a dominate part of my final work.

Aboriginal Dot Painting
Dot painting uses different colours to convey different objects. For example yellow (the sun), brown (the soil), red (desert sand) and white (the clouds and sky). Indigenous Australians painted stories and legends to represent their region.

Research and experiment
After researching the limbic system I sketched and coloured my interpretation of it. After finishing it I decided that a sculpture of the system will be my final work
Research part 2
The part of the brain that is directly involved with emotion, behaviour and long term memory.Very interesting to know that only one part of the brain is associated with emotion but this system is in the centre of the brain.

Inspiration
Francisco Goya's 'Black Paintings' or 'Black Period'. Goya etched and painted these artworks with dark colours and dark meanings in response to his mood (depression). An example of how colour can express mood significantly.

Mood Map
My experimentation of how I would map out my mood in one place over a period of 24 hours.
Research part 1 Different colours and what moods and emotions they convey.

MOOD
how does mood change overtime?
how can I map out mood changes?
This was my groups remake of 2 movies (Titanic and mean girls) as part of learning about the topic 'Uncreativity). We wanted to do something funny so we put a funny movie that everyone knows over the scenes of titanic, a romantic and sad movie. The quality is a bit dodgy but we had lots of fun making it and looking for quotes
Conceptual mini map
Conceptual Map - Mood Map
A map is, by definition, 'a diagrammatic representation of an area of land or sea showing physical features, cities, roads, etc...'
A conceptual map is very different. It is a map that reflects one or a number of ideas, presenting them in a way that hasn't been done before or only makes sense to the artist themself. These maps go further than a flat surfaced, visual representation and display ideas through visual form, sound, texture etc.
An example of an artist that uses conceptual mapping is Katie Lewis. In her series of artworks using pins and string, she elaborates methods of recording data about herself. In one artwork she records sensations felt by different body parts over time, using pins, string and the specific dates she feels the sensations .
Another example that uses the same sort of process is the 'Romeo and Juliet Poster' created by Beetroot Design Group. This poster maps the connection between the characters of Romeo and Juliet by drawing a red line from their names. The method of using the red line goes back to an ancient Chinese legend of the Red String of Fate - that two people who are destined to meet are connected by an invisible red line that over time, brings them together.
Through my research and finding these artworks using string and lines to connect certain sensations and emotions, I decided that for my conceptual map I would like to map out my moods/emotions over a period of time. To map out the process of how it will work I created a sort of mini map which represents how I think the mood map will look, without actually starting it yet. It will be interesting to see if they are similar or not.
My mini map conceptually maps out my idea as I have created in as an estimate to what it should look like. As my map is about mood and emotions, this mini map becomes even more interesting as it could be very different if I was in a different mood. Thinking about how my emotions affect the way I am does make you step back and think about what you're doing.
