my biggest word of advice to anyone scared to post their work/ocs/involve themselves in creative spaces online is to earnestly get interested in other people. be kind to others, like/reblog their work, tell them what you like about their work, get to know them as people.

this isn’t to “weasel” your way into anything or having ulterior motives or whatever. if you become friends with someone then that’s great! but there’s always something very personal about posting any kind of creative work. we’re all trying our best to connect with each other and the best way to get comfortable is to get to know others and show up as yourself. 🫶🏾

so many misguided metaphors around violence and desire. if the open maw of a panting beast fills you with the want to be devoured, that does not make you prey. while the rabbit trembles in fear, its deepest desire is to run. evolution demands it. in fact, the desire to be eaten does not make you any small animal at all.

I think there’s really a conversation to be had about people harassing others to the point of breaking under the guise of being “morally good” and “protecting others”. I’ve never felt protected or safe seeing people like that. I think “oh, if I step even a little out of line I’m next”.

a lot of these same type of people will demand the person they’re harassing to take accountability but I’ve noticed that no one really has any more to say on what they mean by that. Accountability here does not mean accountability. What they want is an exile, or harassment to the point of breaking.

You and a friend have an argument and they decide you’re toxic? You said something problematic when you were 12/13? You like something that makes someone else uncomfortable?

You have to either disappear from the internet forever or kill yourself.

#yeah the taking accountability part also gets me because when people DO apologize and try to make up for their past actions #it is immediately dismissed and used as ammo against the person because the apology was 'disingenuous' and 'only made bc of the backlash'#which is insane. there's no winning. You could apologize to everyone you possibly ever hurt and donate to charities and it'd never be enoug #You can apologize over and over again but it will be written off as you just trying to avoid accountability by apologizing #as if that isn't what accountability is?? idk what definition of accountability they have but it's completely awful #im gonna be real accountability is one of those words I wanna put on the shelf away from the internet in general #The people that do this sort of... 'guarding' of online communities are a huge part of why i don't want to be online much anymore #if I get popular enough im deleting all my socials and im not lying #when strangers on the internet start treating me like im a god for having a made up internet number high score im gonna leave #if it sucks hit da bricks and i dont trust ANY of yall to not start a harassment campaign over some shit I said when I was 16 #listen when hundreds of people harass you online ONCE you don't ever wanna deal with it again.#if I become enough of a public figure that people see me as 'punching up' I'm fucking done. i don’t know how to tell you this but literally the entire world has racist elements. you would be incredibly hard pressed to find any tv show — especially produced in the US — that does not have racist or otherwise obviously bigoted elements. the important thing is to identify, analyse & deconstruct those elements rather than to magically find something without them, because again, every tv show has been produced on a world fuelled by institutional racism, in the shape of those racist institutions.
