rule number four | j.jk 01.
pairing: playboy!jk x heartbreaker!reader
genre: enemies to lovers, enemies with benefits, angst, fluff.
warnings: swearing, mentions of alcohol. (more to be added through the chaps).
summary: to save his reputation and dodge his obsessed ex kendall, campus playboy jeon jungkook begs his worst enemy—you, the ultimate heartbreaker—to be his fake girlfriend. you agree for the drama and low-key attraction, but force him into a strict set of rules to keep control of the game.
there were three clear rules at north shore high. first, don’t get in any trouble. second, don’t do anything weird that could spark gossip. and third, don’t even think about getting involved with the campus’s most feared yet wanted playboy, jeon jungkook—or the pretty girl who only exists to blind you and break your poor heart.
you were known in a lot of ways: the preppy girl, the pretty girl, the pick-me. the sluttiest girl on campus—not even close to true, but okay, whatever you say, bitch. but above everything else, everyone knew you as angelic on the outside and pure evil on the inside. in other words, the ultimate heartbreaker.
it wasn’t your fault that every guy who tried talking to you was an absolute, brainless asshole. they honestly thought that after one short conversation or a couple of quick make-out sessions, you were automatically a couple.
you hated the entire concept of a serious relationship. you valued your alone time and your complete freedom to do whatever you wanted without having to explain yourself to anyone. giving updates, checking in, dealing with jealousy—it was all just draining and boring. you much preferred messing with people, having a good time, and then giving them a sweet "goodbye, i hope i never see your ugly face again."
naturally, everyone on campus constantly wondered: would there ever be someone who could actually change your mind? like those ridiculous romance books where even the biggest player falls for the one girl who softens his heart and flips his entire worldview upside down. you completely despised that idea. to you, it was just fake bullshit the world tried to normalize to push people into codependent relationships.
but of course, people couldn’t stop talking. and after endless speculation, everyone somehow reached the exact same conclusion: the only person who could ever stand a chance against you was none other than the campus playboy himself, jeon jungkook.
you had to admit, a tiny, very buried part of you thought the idea wasn’t entirely terrible. i mean, let’s be real for a second—that man was absurdly, offensively hot from every single angle. those broad shoulders, those sleeve tattoos, and those thick muscles were breathtaking, and you couldn't help but wonder how those heavy biceps would feel wrapped tightly around your neck—oops, intrusive thoughts, moving on.
putting his looks aside, he was an absolute asshole. the literal definition of an idiot in full 3d high-definition. every single time he had the chance to annoy you or make your life a living hell, he took it with his whole soul.
yet, here you were. guess who was currently on his knees begging you to be his fake girlfriend? yep, you guessed it: jeon jungkook, your fucking hot rival.
now, why were you guys even rivals in the first place? simple: you were both used to being the undisputed top dog, and neither of you could stand sharing the spotlight. if you threw a party, he’d throw a bigger one the exact same night just to steal your crowd. if he set his eyes on a high-status table at lunch, you’d steal it five minutes before he even got there, giving him a sweet little wave while popping your bubblegum. it was a non-stop, petty-as-fuck ego war. you both treated every hallway like a arena, constantly trying to out-smart, out-dress, and utterly humiliate each other in front of the entire school. losing to him was literally not an option in your vocabulary.
so to understand how you ended up trapped in this ridiculous scenario with your worst enemy, we have to go back a bit.
jungkook always had a line of girls—if not the entire female population of the school—chasing after him. he was popular, rich, stupidly good-looking, and actually pretty charming if you ever engaged in small talk with him. at parties, he was always surrounded by a crowd, usually flanked by girls desperate to hook up with him. and honestly, who was he to say no to free attention?
the key detail here, though? he was never single for long. like, ever. even if a girl knew she was option number one hundred on his list, she’d still jump at the chance to officially date him.
which brings us to kendall. kendall was popular—not quite on your level or jungkook’s, but relevant enough. her popularity shot through the roof the second she landed jungkook. everyone with working eyes could tell he didn't give a single fuck about her, but she loved him with every fiber of her being. she was basically holding the entire relationship together with tape and prayer. jungkook cheated on her at least thirty times, and she still forgave him every single time—like, girl, please find an ounce of self-respect.
eventually, jungkook got so suffocated by her constant nagging and clingy behavior that he officially dumped her. he was sick of having her follow him around like a desperate puppy, so he cut the cord and didn't look back.
of course, because the school loved dragging your name into literally everything, a massive rumor started spreading the second they broke up. people were convinced that he ended things with kendall because of you—that he had secretly fallen for you and dropped her the second he had a shot.
the second kendall heard the rumors, she went running straight back to jungkook, sobbing and begging him to take her back. she even promised she’d change, swearing she’d act just like you if that’s what it took to keep him. jungkook literally just laughed in her face and walked away, leaving her completely humiliated in front of half the student body.
but it didn't stop there. kendall took her obsession to a terrifying new level. she started copying everything about you—your outfits, your makeup, the way you walked, the way you talked, your hair, even your sharp attitude. you didn't really care at first—people were always trying to copy you anyway—but now she was running around campus looking like your bootleg twin, still begging jungkook for a second chance.
and that’s when jungkook’s chaotic, desperate brain came up with a plan.
he was losing his absolute mind dealing with kendall, and he needed a way to shut her down permanently. since the entire school already believed the rumors about the two of you, he figured making you his fake girlfriend was the fastest, most believable way to get her off his back forever.
which brings us right back to the present moment: jeon jungkook, standing in front of you with a desperate look in his eyes, waiting for you to say yes to his insane proposition.
one second you were walking down the west hallway minding your own business, and the next, a heavy, ring-covered hand yanked you by the wrist into an empty, half-lit classroom. before you could even curse him out, the door clicked shut, locking you both inside.
jungkook pinned you back against the edge of a dusty teacher's desk. he stood stupidly close, crowding your personal space so completely that you had no choice but to inhale his scent—a mix of expensive woody cologne, fresh mint, and the cold leather of his jacket. in the dim light filtering through the blinds, you could see every single detail of his face: his long, dark lashes, those deep brown eyes, the silver piercing in his eyebrow, and the sharp, infuriatingly perfect line of his jaw.
he was looking directly into your eyes, drowning you in that heavy, intimidating gaze. he knew exactly what he was doing. he was a massive flirt and he was fully using every trick in his book to manipulate you into saying yes.
"please, come onnn," jungkook whined softly, getting even closer until his hot breath brushed directly against your cheek. his big, warm hands flew to your waist, his fingers digging lightly into your skin through your top.
you were used to guys trying shit like this with you—and honestly, you were used to it with him too—but this felt different. the air in the cramped classroom felt thick, heavy, and the tiny distance between your bodies was practically nonexistent.
"i really need your help with this," he murmured, shifting his head so his dark eyes locked onto yours again with that stupidly beautiful, desperate face. "i know you kinda want it... don't lie to yourself."
you scoffed loudly, forcing yourself to look away at the dusty whiteboard just to break his spell. "you're so full of yourself, aren't you?" you bit back, though your heart was hammering a pathetic, frantic rhythm against your ribs. you looked back at him, raising an eyebrow. "why does it have to be me? go beg someone else, jungkook. i'd honestly rather be with an old man than spend five minutes pretending to be with you."
jungkook just smirked at that, his eyes flashing with dark amusement. instead of backing off, he tightened his grip on your waist, pulling your hips completely flush against his. the heat radiating off him made your skin burn.
"stop lying. why are you trying so hard to play hard to get?" he whispered, leaning down so his lips brushed the shell of your ear, sending a shiver straight down your spine. "you know i always get what i want."
before you could snap back with something nasty, the loud, distinct sound of high heels came echoing down the hallway outside.
it was kendall. her voice was loud, desperate, and way too close to the door as she stopped anyone walking by to ask about him. "has anyone seen jungkook? he was literally just here..."
footsteps headed straight toward the classroom. you saw a shadow block the small glass window on the door, and the metallic door handle began to slowly turn.
jungkook’s eyes flickered toward the door for a fraction of a second. then, before you could even process what he was about to do, his hand flew up to cup your jawline, his heavy silver rings cold against your skin, and he slammed his lips directly onto yours.
your brain instantly short-circuited. you were completely used to make-out sessions and quick hookups, but this was absurdly, violently different. maybe it was because you had never kissed jungkook before, or maybe it was because the asshole was dangerously good at it.
his lips moved in a smooth, confident rhythm against yours, tilting his head to deepen the angle until you could taste the faint trace of mint on his tongue. his hands slid down from your jaw to your waist, pulling you so tight against his chest that you could feel the heavy, racing beat of his own heart. every few seconds, his fingers would squeeze your waist, sending tiny electric shocks straight to your stomach.
you weren't about to let him dominate you, though. this was still a war, and you refused to lose. instead of pulling back, you matched his pace, sliding your hands up his chest to wrap around his neck, dragging your palms over the cold leather of his jacket and tangling your fingers into the soft hair at the nape of his neck. he let out a low, muffled breath against your mouth, shifting his weight so you were pressed back even further against the desk.
and then, the classroom door creaked fully open.
from the corner of your eye, through the mess of your hair, you saw kendall standing frozen in the doorway. her mouth was slightly open, her eyes wide with total, unadulterated shock as she stared at the two of you making out like the world was ending.
the kiss itself was mind-blowing, but the sheer, petty satisfaction of watching kendall stand there, utterly crushed while looking like your bootleg twin, was the absolute best part.
jungkook clearly sensed her presence, but he didn't pull away. if anything, a slow, hidden smirk formed against your lips mid-kiss. he tilted his head again, deepening the kiss even more, his tongue sliding past your lips as he intentionally put on a show, letting her watch every single second of it.
it had been two days since that insane moment with jungkook—featuring kendall staring at you two like a ghost. two whole days, and you hadn’t responded to a single one of his texts. you had avoided him completely on campus, dodging him like the fucking plague.
you’re probably wondering what you actually answered him in that classroom—did you say yes or no to his fake girlfriend proposal? the truth is, you didn't even give him an actual answer. the second he ended the kiss, you just softly pulled away, looked back at kendall with the most condescending, smug smirk on your face, and strutted right out the door like nothing happened.
jungkook probably hated your guts in that exact moment—you literally left him completely alone to deal with a hysterical, crying kendall right after she watched you two swallow each other whole. but honestly? that sounded like a him problem.
bringing it back to the present, you were currently in your bedroom getting ready with your two best friends—karen and sharon—for a massive house party hosted by jackson wang. jackson was the definition of the ultimate popular guy: rich, insanely extroverted, and hosted parties that usually ended up with half the school passed out on his lawn. he was one of those guys who could talk to literally anyone, and somehow, everyone adored him.
you were sitting at your vanity putting the final touches on your eye makeup, while karen was behind you helping sharon curl her hair.
"girl," karen started, pausing the curling iron. "what the hell actually happened between you and jungkook on wednesday? people are saying kendall was yelling at him in the hallway like a crazy bitch, and your name was being cursed every two seconds."
sharon burst out laughing at that, shaking her head.
you just rolled your eyes and sighed, blending out your eyeshadow. "the idiot begged me to be his fake girlfriend so he could finally get rid of kendall chasing him like a desperate dog," you replied simply. "that little bitch is completely obsessed with both of us, it's embarrassing."
you stopped, holding your makeup brush in mid-air as a thought hit you. karen and sharon both froze, staring at you through the mirror with pure expectation.
you glanced at their reflections briefly. "...we kissed."
the entire room went dead silent. neither of the two girls moved a single muscle. now, they knew for a fact that you making out with a guy was nothing new—you did it whenever you felt like it—but doing it with jungkook was an entirely different universe.
sharon was the first one to break the silence, pointing her index finger straight at your reflection in the mirror.
"you," she paused, her eyes wide. "you and jungkook..." another dramatic pause. "kissed."
you just shrugged casually, but sharon wasn't letting it go.
"you kissed your goddamn rival," she practically shrieked. "the exact same guy you swore on your family's life you would never, ever touch!"
"okay, first of all, he actually kissed me," you corrected, turning around in your chair to face them with an unbothered smirk. "i just went along with it because kendall was standing right there watching us, and i wasn't about to let her see me look surprised. it was purely for the drama."
"purely for the drama my ass," karen laughed, crossing her arms. "so are you going to this party tonight as his fake girlfriend, or are you just gonna keep ignoring his fifty missed calls?"
"i haven't decided yet," you said, turning back to the mirror to apply your lip gloss. "it depends on how he behaves tonight," you smirked.
the arrival at jackson’s house was pure chaos—just like always. the music was so ridiculously loud you could literally hear the bass pounding in your chest from four blocks down the street.
the front door was wide open, revealing a wall-to-wall crowd packed inside. people were making out in plain sight without a single bit of shame, forgotten plastic cups were scattered all over the floor, and a bunch of idiots were already jumping into the pool fully clothed, drinking and smoking like there was no tomorrow. you could only imagine what was going down upstairs in the bedrooms.
the second your heels hit the hardwood floor, your presence instantly caused a scene. every single eye in the living room snapped straight to you—partly because you looked insanely good, but mostly because of the whole messy situation with jungkook and kendall.
half the room started waving and calling out your name, while the rest just glared or hid behind their cups to whisper to each other. normally, you fed off that kind of attention and loved every second of it. but tonight, you found yourself scanning the crowded room, looking for the one specific pair of dark eyes that you actually wanted on you—and you couldn't find him anywhere.
whatever, what does it matter? just enjoy the night, bitch, you thought to yourself, taking a long sip of your drink. if he wanted you that bad to be his fake girlfriend, he needed to earn it. period.
you walked toward the kitchen, where a long wooden table was practically overflowing with half-empty bottles, questionable punch bowls, snacks, and a million discarded plastic cups. you pushed your way through the crowd, grabbed a clean glass, and filled it to the brim with... vodka? maybe. you weren't even sure what it was, but it looked expensive and fancy—and you liked everything fancy.
making your way outside to meet your friends—who were currently way too busy flirting with a bunch of basic, boring guys who weren't even close to being hot—a sudden weight dropped onto your shoulder. a heavy hand, cold silver rings pressing through the thin fabric of your top, softly grabbed you from behind.
"hey, miss ghost," he murmured right in your ear.
you turned around to look at him properly, rolling your eyes at the nickname. ghost? what a fucking joke. you looked up, taking him in. he was holding a drink in one hand and a lit cigarette dangling between his fingers in the other.
"how have you been? i've been texting you, but apparently you're so busy you can't even open my messages," he said, tilting his head with a raised eyebrow, looking down at you with that smug, expectant look on his face.
you clicked your tongue, instantly looking away to scan your surroundings. if people saw you two standing together in the middle of the kitchen like this, it would just feed those shitty, annoying rumors even more. then, your eyes caught a small, almost hidden door down the short hallway. the guest bathroom.
you looked back up at his stupidly symmetrical face. "let's go somewhere quieter. i don't want people seeing us talk right now," you muttered.
without waiting for an answer, you reached out and grabbed his wrist—his skin was warm against your manicured fingers—and dragged him down the hallway. you snatched the door handle, yanked him inside with you, and instantly clicked the lock shut so no one could stumble in and think dirty thoughts. ew.
jungkook clearly didn't expect you to pull a move like that. being locked alone inside a cramped bathroom with you in the middle of a massive party? yeah, he definitely wasn't complaining.
the bathroom was freezing, lit up by a harsh white light overhead. it was tiny, containing nothing but a toilet, a sink, a bar of soap, and a cheap air freshener. the lack of space forced the two of you to stand way closer than necessary, your shoulders practically touching.
he leaned back against the cold wall, crossing his thick arms over his chest and looking at you with pure amusement.
"you really dragged us into a bathroom? are you that desperate to be close to me?" he smirked, his eyes dropping to your lips for a split second before meeting your gaze again. "you could've just asked, baby."
you scoffed, throwing your hands onto your hips to mock him. "whatever helps you sleep at night, jungkook," you replied, letting out a loud sigh. "and don't ever call me baby. it's gross. ew."
he let out a dark little laugh, running a hand up through his messy dark hair. "so? what do you say? you never actually gave me an answer to my offer," he reminded you, stepping half an inch closer, waiting for a proper response.
honestly? it wasn't even that you didn't want to do it. in fact, the entire idea of being with him—even if it was totally fake—turned you on a little bit. because let's be real for a second: he was ridiculously hot. he was attentive when he wanted to be, attractive, buff, insanely hot—did i mention hot?—and according to every girl on campus, he was a mind-blowing kisser. and probably good at other things too, but whatever, blame the alcohol and hormones.
you turned your head to look at the large mirror beside you, scanning the stark contrast between the two of you in the bright light.
you were wearing a pink animal-print top that hugged every single curve of your figure, paired with black micro-shorts and matching knee-high boots. jungkook, on the other hand, was wearing an all-black fit: a plain black tee, black baggy jeans, and his signature black jacket. basic, but on him? deadly.
you had to admit, you looked fucking incredible standing next to each other. the bad boy and mean girl aesthetic actually matched way too well.
outside the door, the bass was thumping so loud the mirrors were vibrating, and you could hear people screaming over the music down the hall. after a heavy silence, you finally turned around and met his gaze.
"okay. i'll do it," you said.
the second the words left your mouth, his entire face literally lit up. his arrogant posture softened for a second, his mouth twitching into a massive, proud smile of pure relief.
"but first," you cut in sharply, stepping closer and raising a finger. "we need rules."
you had to make this strictly clear. this was not going to be an easy ride for him.
jungkook tilted his head back against the concrete wall, looking down at you with a amused, curious gaze. "why would we need rules? it's just gonna make it harder for people to believe us," he reasoned, not getting your point at all. to him, pretending to be obsessed with each other was simple—rules were just an annoying obstacle.
you shifted your weight to one leg, leaning your elbow against the edge of the sink and looking at him like he was stupid.
"i'm not having you all over me twenty-four-seven, so yeah, we need clear rules for this shit," you demanded, bossy as ever.
"rule number one: no unscripted pda in public," you said, crossing your arms over your chest. "you don't get to grab me, touch my waist, or act like some hopeless romantic until i give you the look first. and if you ever kiss me like you did in that classroom without warning, i will embarrass you in front of the entire school."
jungkook’s smile faded into a look of genuine disappointment, but you couldn't care less.
"second rule: everyone needs to think you begged for my attention, not that i fell for your stupid charm or whatever. you hold my jacket, you bring me my drinks, and you look at me like i hung the fucking moon." you locked eyes with him, slowly raising an eyebrow in challenge.
"and third: when we aren't performing for kendall or the rest of the school, we don't exist to each other. no late-night texts, no casual hangouts, and the most important rule of all..." you took one step forward, your boots clicking on the tile until you were standing right in his chest. "...if either of us starts catching real feelings, the deal is dead immediately."
jungkook stared down at you, letting out a low sigh. you were so bossy, arrogant, and annoying—and it turned him on so bad. you were never going to make anything easy for him, and he loved it.
"okay, boss. i accept your terms and conditions," he teased, his low voice vibrating in his chest.
he straightened up, pushing off the wall and stepping toward the door. he placed his hand on the metallic lock, looking over his shoulder at you with a dark, dangerous smirk.
"the second you step out of this bathroom, you're mine." jungkook said, turning the latch. "see ya out there, girlfriend."
you don't even want to imagine how would be the talk of the whole school when they finally find out that you are together—fuck.
