...because I'm still not over this and Felix is the one I'm fixating on right now. As it says on the tin, I'm analyzing the burn Felix receives from Mickey and what it might say about their relationship. Warning for talk of violence, scars, burns, and abuse.
Felix possibly having more than one life could mark him as an important asset—as objectifying as it sounds. He has the potential to be put into deadly situations and still come out alive, and that's something that can produce unprecedented success—especially from such an experienced individual actively working in multiple different fields (which. is likely one of, if not the main reason why Felix is Head Researcher anyways considering he’s apparently failed Mickey multiple times. There's also a possibility that Felix's place as one of the pioneers of rubber hose cartoons had come into play in this decision too, but we'll see if that comes up later down the line). But, in regards to their 1:1 interactions and Mickey’s closeted greedy nature, it’s not too far of a stretch to think that Mickey views Felix as a tool to be used. This can be supported by the way he reacts to Felix’s failure to give the map—vicious and relentlessly threatening, dehumanizing. Because his tool's not working like it should, why is he pouring all this time, money, resources into a faulty tool that can't do the job he's specifically paying for? He even throws Felix out of the room like a discarded toy. Now to be fair, the map is a BIG freaking deal, so I can see why he’s so pissed.
However, Mickey leaves a scar on Felix: a deliberately (in my opinion) placed cigarette burn on the upper-center of his chest. Not on his wrist, where he can easily hide it with his gloves, or his arms or wherever else that can be covered with clothing inconspicuously. No, he burns him on his upper sternum. An area of sensitive nerves, a place above his shirt collar (we can visibly see this when we jump to Felix & Sheba talking to Bendy & Boris on the couch + during the Assembly of Algol).
A bruise from a tight grip or a cut from an object could be easily explained away as something Felix could have gotten from one of his expeditions (even more so in this situation where he’s just gotten back from a trip to get the coveted map), but this is a cigarette burn. Something you have to actively still (or, in this case, forced to) for such a localized burn. Seeing as he’s literally smoking as he’s thrown out, we can probably infer that this was a 3rd degree burn—the second most serious burn behind a 4th degree one—so this definitely scarred. Also, just look at this. That cig went out DEEP and ANGRY.
Mickey could've made Felix pick up the glass he threw at him, so he wouldn't have to really do anything to punish Felix. Felix could just punish himself. (Would his gloves protect his hands? Probably. Maybe there'd be more shame in having to take off his gloves and then having to pick up the glass. It brings up the question as to why Felix has gloves anyways, seeing as he's usually depicted without them. Is this even the first time Mickey has done this to Felix? It might be the first time he's done something so obvious and scarring, but with the way Felix acts around Mickey it seems he's aware of the violence he could face when failing Mickey.) But no, Mickey chooses to put out his cigar on Felix, where he gets to control where it goes and how far it digs into his skin. This burn isn’t just a scare tactic—it’s also a form of possession, a declaration: “You do what I tell you, or face the consequences”.
Mickey might’ve gone this far because he’s aware that as an adventurer, Felix’s pain tolerance is higher than the average individual as he goes through extreme situations most wouldn’t find themselves in and actively puts himself in danger on his expeditions. He's not going to respond to verbal abuse, he's likely heard it all from the people he's escaped and fought when obtaining items on his adventures. But what he can visibly, satisfyingly react to is pain. Therefore, he resorts to equally extreme measures.
Mickey’s also almost always shown with his cigarette, so a cigarette burn in particular could be easily connected to him, furthering that possessive, controlling aspect (as if that boss-employee dynamic isn't bad enough). Felix, during the assembly, purposefully tugs his jacket collar (because his shirt alone can’t cover it), over the burn Mickey gave him. He has to actively place a barrier over the symbol of Mickey’s punishment when he speaks, or else whatever he’s going to say won’t be taken as seriously as a Star himself when he’s obviously been pushed around by someone in a higher position.
It leaves a constant, shameful reminder of Mickey’s control, his failure to Mickey, what Mickey can do to Felix (or, how worse it can possibly get, elevating the stakes for Felix no matter how he reacts). Even if he finds a way to remove it, that experience is going to stay with him for a long, long while. This could be exacerbated if Mickey & Felix once had a more positive relationship in the past, which, OUCH.
Anyways, ramble over. I might have misinterpreted things, so take this analysis with a grain of salt. ALSO NO SHADE TO MICKEY (well, at least not massive amounts skksjdld), he'll probably have his reasons for being the way he is revealed in the future (at least, I hope. That reaction over Mrs. Mouse has me curious indeed). Feel free to correct anything or add on, chances are I probably forgot some stuff :,)

Oc for the this lovely au that has been taking over my brain @themissinginkdemons I also did some little Doodles here and there I just recently got my new art tablet and this is what I've been cooking my hand hurts a lot because I've been drawing all day with this thing and I really am happy with how this came out!! I hope you like it as well this is the first time I've ever drawn these characters so please forgive me if they look bad I've been practicing drawing them better!!!
I also really really like mugman in this AU so I took it upon myself to draw oc x Canon!! I decided to change her name to Divine !! not cotton!!
Hello bendystraw community this is me i bring you zookeeper au (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ IF THIS GETS VIEWS ILL CONTINUE INTO A PROPER AU!! question box open....i believe... anyways character cards will be out soon!! hopefully my cartoony art is good enough HAHA panels together below
` My life is ruined by fear, Being able to cry out for help, now covered by my fear for not getting help, hurting for a body that's not mine i cry and cry but no anger, justice, safety, resentment. that i wish i could get. and have, how can i resent you when you are nothing but a mistake? And a Regect? like me? how can i pray for a god when there is no god? all of this happening in the hands of the god that's not real. no reason at all at the hand of no god?`
I just stumbled upon your au and had the lovely opportunity to read it and catch up, and I just want to say what an absolutely beautiful story you have in your hands here. From the art itself, which feels so warm and cozy in its high energy points, to the dialogue the characters throw our way which are tantalizing and daunting, there is just this sincere believability, especially with Cuphead. I love it.
Speaking of Cuphead, and speaking towards him, I gotta ask:
Are there any things you do to relieve your stress? When things get tough mentally, where do you go to? Where does your mind take you?
Aww thank you so much!!! Those words mean a lot to me 😭🌷⭐🩷
