i LOVE watching films and tv shows

writing has been a passion of mine since i was little, and I’ve written short stories that I’ve won a couple of awards for! I’ve also recently started writing poems! I’ve never posted them anywhere though, and I don’t know if I ever will, since I’m a little protective of my writing

i LOVE theater! I’ve been in a couple of plays in the past and I love acting with my entire heart and soul, even if I’m a little shy about it. it’s been a while since I last acted but I’d love to again! ever since I was little I dreamt of becoming an actress, although it’s not something I’m pursuing as a professional career anymore

so I finished the good omens finale…

I have very mixed feelings I suppose. there are a lot of things I liked, I won’t pretend otherwise, but there were also plenty of things I didn’t, and a lot of things I would’ve done differently, not to get into all of that right now. incoming big talk…

i guess my biggest thing I want to talk about (and I’ve wanted to talk about it since season 2 came out actually) is the shift (?) in purpose of the story (?). it’s kind of hard to explain like this, but to me, the way I’ve always read good omens (and I say this especially as someone who has been in love with the book for years) is as a story about humanity first and foremost. crowley and aziraphale might be the main characters (in the show, at least), but they’ve always been secondary to the point of the story, which in itself is mentioned at the very beginning: that people aren’t fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, but rather that they are fundamentally people. this notion that humans can be anything they want and that it all boils down to intent and kindness, and that humanity is something so beautiful that even an angel and a demon could fall in love with it to the point of becoming a little bit human themselves is what has made me love good omens for as long as I have. the book is of course the epitome of this, but season 1 does a fantastic job at adapting that sentiment, and I feel as though it was in season 2 it shifted a bit away from that in favour of the romance, and after that it carried on into this finale. which, don’t get me wrong, I was delighted to see aziracrow happen (I don’t think there is a single person on this earth who is a fan of good omens and wasn’t waiting for ineffable husbands to happen I mean come on), but I think that giving it the center stage and “sidelining” those other themes might have been a big part of what has led to this bittersweet ending.

the idea that humanity is flawed and imperfect, but optimistic nonetheless, and capable of changing (for better or worse, which is a wonderful thing) when given the ability to do so, the idea of choosing your own destiny despite the universe screaming in your face to go the opposite direction… it’s the core of good omens. which is why I’m so sad that the jesus plot didn’t go further than it did, and that adam (who in my opinion is the ultimate representation of all this) didn’t partake in the plot at all (and like if you were going to have him cameo genuinely why not have him involved from the start anyway), because I think a face to face between these two, who are so different but who share so much in their vision of the world could have been such a strong narrative force. but not only that, I also think that it’s that sentiment of “I’ll try even if it doesn’t work, for the sake of trying”, of “I’m imperfect but I’ll try to do better every day, because that’s what being human is”, of “there is no good or bad there’s only people”, that made aziraphale and crowley fall in love not only with humanity, but with each other. crowley was always too generous for a demon and aziraphale was too selfish for an angel and that made them both too human for either side of theirs; and I think it’s in that grey that they found that comfort and love for one another, despite everything; so I think that if you put that theme a little in the back burner, every aspect of the plot suffers (including the way the romance works), because it’s so integral to it. so I believe that that might be a big part of where my issues with this come from

but all this is neither here nor there, this post is simply something where I needed to pour my feelings for the time being because I’m feeing a lot of things right now and the people on tiktok didn’t seem to have the reading comorehension to see things beyond surface level (I have a feeling people on here might understand what I’m talking about a bit better…hehe). I won’t pretend like I didn’t enjoy the episode regardless, I laughed a lot and of course I was charmed by the fantastical, weird, silly world that good omens holds within itself; and a big chunk of that is due to michael sheen and david tenant loving this thing as much as they do, which I’m eternally grateful to them for

i mean I guess, you spend 7 years attached to something that means this much to you, you’re going to end up crying your eyes out by the end of it regardless. at least we have nightingales
