I feel deeply sorry for the past and present trauma and pain that indigenous people in “Canada” have to endure. This weekend @cammacarthur and I witnessed powerful testimony by Pacheedaht elder Bill Jones and hereditary chief Viktor Peter in a peaceful confrontation with RCMP at the exclusion zone of the @fairycreekblockade. Colonialism is still very alive in this country and the unsustainable old growth logging practices performed by settlers on unceded territories are just one of many example to kill indigenous spirit. It’s worth dreaming big and because of a dream and boldness this shot now has a special place in my heart. Not only did we work with ground breaking camera technology but I also got to work with people that have inspired me and thousands of other people by changing the narrative about sharks. Witnessing the amazing work of @oceanramsey and @juansharks first hand and then going for a swim with them and the sharks was a highlight of my career and my life. Who would have thought that this kid from Germany who was once afraid of the open ocean would one day direct a film in the waters of Hawaii. My hope is that this little piece can contribute to a better and less fearful understanding of the ocean and its inhabitants. Camouflaged wolf. I think I still had my toothbrush in my mouth when this beautiful coastal wolf came around the corner completely unexpected. I was able to snap a few shots before she disappeared again in the distance. I’ve shared this photo of my wolf pup encounter before but it keeps reminding me that there is so much more to this planet than just us. When we put our egos aside and connect with the natural world we can discover so much beauty. This encounter was nothing short of a true jungle book moment. These wolves gave us a short but precious glimpse into their lives, they accepted us in their space with mutual respect and curiosity. For a week it was just them and us, it was the bears and us, the eagles and us. We were never alone. There is a lot more out there than just us.
