Pregnancy Update: A journey in PGH OB OPD
It's my second pregnancy after my eldest son Caelan. I am on my 27 weeks now. I had been updated with my Prenatal check ups every month. However, two weeks ago I needed to decide and visit a hospital where I plan of delivering which is at Philippine General Hospital or PGH. My first visit was last 25th day of March. I was being accompanied by my landlady's daughter who is studying Medicine in UP Manila. We got there at 6:00AM. Mothers are all on long queue, we had to wait for amost 1 and a half hour before we got our turn. Since it was my first visit I had to go through the sort of application for Blue Card. Blue card is your identification for being a PGH patient with records. Also, it gives you discounts to some laboratory tests. So, I was given instructions to fill up a form and pay it to Counter 1 which is 7 pesos. Then verify the infiormation to Counter 2 or 3. Afterewhich, I was asked to go back to Clinic/OB counter. I had to submit the a receipt with my name on the back,. They will fill up again another chart for my records to be given to doctors in what they call clinics.
Then, I had to weigh. I weighed 139 pounds. Mothers should remember their weight for it will be asked once you are called by the doctors. I was on queue again for the clinic from 8am until 11:30am so I waited for three and a half hours. Mind you, AM if the schedule for New patients or new mommies and PM is for Follow ups. The down side of the Follow ups is that youhave to be in the hospital early to get your card an early slot however you will be called in the afternoon so brace yourself with waiting.
At 11:30AM many doctors came in, I was informed they were interns. I was called instantly. You will go through thorough assessment especially if you are a new patient. They will examine you for an IE and pap smear. These are horrible for me. My doctor was an intern and was not competent enough for her skills. I felt bad specially with pap smear. She had to insert an speculum on my vagi thrice and move it up an down as if she's searching for something. I felt horrible. I was sweating cold. She soon found out how to on her third attempt from the help of her resident. (So pathetic for me and her.) Anyway, after that I was given additional laboratory requests.The intern assisted me to the nurse to give me my blue card. Oh, I had to pay my papsmear first. So I did and went back for my blue card.
It was almost 1pm when I was done. I headed to the different laboratories situated to different buildings which was exhausting.
Anyway, I asked for schedule for the tests then I headed to the office for work which I was so late. (my work starts at 10am). I will be back again on 21st of April. Good luck to me and to other patients.
Patience is a MUST in governemt hospitals.
