I’m so sick of the ageism in fandom spaces.
There are teenage antis everywhere complaining about “fandom moms” and anyone 25/30+ enjoying a fandom.
These kids need to learn that adults are still people. They still have interests and hobbies.
You don’t hit an age where suddenly all your passion and enjoyment for cartoons/movies/games just vaporises, and you put on a suit and become an entirely new person with no interests outside of work and childrearing.
The ironic thing is, a lot of these teens are probably experiencing it too. I know I was at that age. People were constantly telling me I was too old to like cartoons. They said I should watch “grown up” shows and go out partying like the other people my age.
Telling adult fans they’re too old to enjoy a show, or that they should “go do their taxes” or “go have/take care of some kids” is literally no different.
Maybe they’ll finally realise when they become adults and the new crowd of youths start chasing them out. But I sincerely hope that the newer generation with have more sense than that.
We’re adults. We’re not too old to enjoy our favourite media. But we are too old to put up with your ageist bullshit.
