Just a quick question: I was wondering if you were open for commissions at all?
💕 Hope you're doing okay! 💕
And a hello to you to lovely Anon😚❤
I've been meaning to actually put up my commissions for quite some time actually! I just needed to do some updating on them but here's some basic info if you want!
^^^^^General info here, but feel free to DM for more information :D💗
(Imma add link later on in my description!!! Sorry for the lack of a link/info ;w;)
The problem with being a writer is that you have to be your characters.
You can’t write a charming character by saying they’re charming, you actually need to be charming and write them charming dialog. You can’t just state somebody is smart, you need to write smart things for them to say and do.
If the LI's could sense that the MC was their soulmate the moment they met them, would their interactions with the MC have changed much or be the same? 🤔 I'm very curious about M regarding this.
Oh, very good question!
If they knew from the moment they met that they were gonna be soulmates…
A would react even more stand off-ish than they already do. But saying that, A is probably the only one that already sort of realises it anyway right from the moment they met in the office.
N would totally not hold back. They wouldn’t push the MC, but they certainly wouldn’t be backwards in coming forwards :D
F would just straight up say it, like, ‘So, soulmate, how do you wanna go about this? Us getting together, you know?’ Hehe!
M would also go for it. They’re not scared of their feelings like A is, just…oblivious and confused, lol. So if it was made clear for them then hell yeah they’d go for it!
Don't look at me, I'm thinking of Adam sitting next to his kid doing paperwork and the kid is busy "helping" by scribbling on scrap paper and Adam, very seriously, looking over their work before adding it to a pile next to the real work.
im interested on your thots as to why a & the detective don’t deserve to kiss yet if you’re willing to share 🤲🏼 (-nathanielhsewell)
oh boy am i thrilled to discuss this hot take lmao. putting this under a cut for extensive book 3 demo screenshots, so read at your own risk.
why i do Not believe that A and the detective deserve to kiss yet (at this point: the first 4 chapters of book 3)
alright so i Know that many A-mancers were experiencing the seven stages of grief after the second book 3 demo release because of the opportunity for the detective to venture for a kiss with A or wait to see if A would kiss them, which resulted--as we all should have expected--in A swerving the detective big time, despite clearly longing for said kiss. i thought this was a brilliant moment in the demo even as adam rejected my detective pandora lmao. in fact, i will go one step further and say that i would have been annoyed if we did get a kiss from A in the demo because of the very nature of their romance as a slow burn.
i did a deep dive into “slow burn” on sera’s tumblr and this is what i found:
in this ask, sera defines this as “when things take their time. Usually a loooong time.” this is IMPORTANT to remember for A and for M, both of which she has described as slow burns in their own ways, but i’ll be focusing on A.
specifically, sera has described A’s route not just as a slow burn, but as a “super major slow burn” and it will be quite awhile before relationship stuff occurs (but definitely before book 7!)
she has also warned everyone--as early as 2018--that if slow burns are not your thing, then A’s route is definitely not for you; most of it will be outside the realm of a formal relationship BUT that doesn’t mean there is any less romance; it’s very much a will-they/won’t-they dynamic that involves a lot of pining (which is extremely My Shit but that is neither here nor there)
why does all of this matter? because of the implications for a kiss in such a slow burn romance. sera addressed this earlier this year (may 2020) and said, “I was super worried people would disappointed there was no kiss in [A’s] route, but it just seriously didn’t work for that romance.” keep in mind that at this point--4 chapters into the third book of a 7-book series--we are not even halfway through the series as a whole. if this route is meant to be super slow burn, a lot of pining, a lot of questioning how/when/if the detective and A will get together, it would be--in my opinion--way, way, way too soon for A to be either accepting a kiss from the detective or initiating one themselves. i was shocked when this option came up (literally screaming in my discord server, i think i forgot to breathe for a moment!!) precisely because of the nature of a slow burn romance, and was relieved to see that it… did not come to fruition lmao.
why was i relieved? well, in addition to the general nature of this route, A’s specific reactions to the detective in the demo do Not suggest they are in a place to give or receive a kiss. let’s dig in! for context, A in my route is adam paired with a female detective that flirts with him boldly 72% of the time. this is immediately after the almost werewolf attack in the first chapter of the demo:
this scene to me is so indicative of the push-and-pull dynamic with A: they can’t help themselves when it comes to worrying about and expressing concern for the detective, but they can and do deny and/or suppress that concern when it becomes clear that there is more than professional interest behind it.
which brings us to discussing what happened after the carnival at the end of book 2. there were several options here under the fireworks: the detective could reach for A’s hand, the detective could wait for A to reach for their hand, or the detective could rest their head on A’s shoulder. pandora, my A-mancer, rested her head on adam’s shoulder and how does this man respond?
by completing avoiding her for a month. she barely touched him! all detectives barely touched A or were barely touched by A! and we expect this same person to just…… go in for a kiss right now lmaooo i Think Not (not to say we cannot Hope for one, but ooo baby don’t break your own heart--A will do that just fine 😇) in any case, that level of physical contact/revealing there are Some Emotions already has A backpedaling so fast because they are petrified; they desperately want the detective but they desperately do not want to admit this openly and are trying to ignore it to the best (worst) of their ability.
as a jane austen stan, this is a good place for me to point out why sera likens A more so to persuasion’s captain wentworth as opposed to pride and prejudice’s oft-compared mr. darcy: both are stoic characters, but only wentworth actively denies his feelings while darcy embraces them. it is this denial but the enacting of care against their will that defines A at this point in the series (and if you want to talk slow burn, hoo boy go read persuasion!!) this is a continual theme in the demo!! the feelings Are There but A is fighting them tooth and nail, as most precisely illustrated by the “damage control” comment they make after the (in my A-mancer’s route anyway) ventured kiss and subsequent confrontation:
their own body is “betraying” them with the weakened knees, the hurting heart, and still they are committed to stopping this before it goes any further. now, if we want to lose our minds over something in this demo, i would say: weep not over the missed kiss, but ABSOLUTELY WEEP FOR THIS COMMENT. i’m petrified! anyway, THIS is such a clear moment of panic when nothing even happened because A (in my detective’s route) made sure that nothing happened; if we’re in pain now, just imagine--imagine--how much worse A would react if they had kissed/been kissed in the demo (if you want to explore that pain, may i recommend @dwead-piwate-meggers‘s excellent fic kiss me, kill me).
all of this to say:
A is Not Ready to kiss or be kissed by the detective because they are still determined to deny, deny, deny those feelings or at least try to stop acting on them
we are not even halfway through the series and we know this is the slowest of slow burns; this crumb was delicious! i wasn’t expecting even venturing for a kiss before book 5 lmao
but in conclusion, even without a kiss, A is progressing in their (non-)relationship with the detective! literally a scene after the damage control comment, they use the detective’s first name/nickname in a briefing. then they go on a breakfast date with the detective where they are so open and vulnerable about their family. that’s amazing!
A is swinging between two extremes, between soul-crushing fear and blinding hope and longing, and i cannot wait to see how this continues to play out
If Rook was still alive would that have changed the plot in any way?
Massively!
Rook was such a different type of person than Rebecca, and having them together would have changed everything. The rift between her and the MC probably wouldn’t have happened. I’m not sure the MC would have joined the police force possibly. The MC likely would have known about the supernatural since young.
I know the common theory about “rabbit” and N is that it was their mother or parents’ nickname for them, but i honestly always thought it was what N used to call one of their siblings.
We are not aware if N has any siblings ofc but idk why i’m stubbornly holding onto this theory (watch me be completely wrong lmao)
I think the ask i previously was eaten, i was really looking forward to an answer. Here goes XD If it doesn't touch the spoiler area (or if it does not conflict to any of your vampire and supernatural concept), which of the UB's would want to show off their skills in swimming to the MC, or even their own physicality? How would they do it? I could imagine Adam flexing his arms and showing off his abs secretly, while droplets of water drip from his short hair and run over his... gaahhh i cant even
Hehe :D
A would indeed do it subtely, as though they could convince themself they weren’t doing it to show off to the MC. Lots of reasons for picking stuff up to show off those powerful arms or hauling themself out of the pool to really make use of those muscles on display!
N wouldn’t feel the need to show off. They are aware of their physicality and the reaction it can elicit, lol!
F would not be subtle at all. Lots of calling to the MC and parading like they’re on a catwalk :D
M would also not be subtle, but wouldn’t be as obvious as F. Lots of running fingers through wet hair, slowly drying off with a towel to draw attention to every body part…that kinda thing!
