Being anti-racist isn’t just being vocal about violence against Black folks, it also entails viewing them as beautiful, as viable romantic partners and friends, as people who have diverse interests, who are smart, funny, kind complex individuals. To be anti-racist you need to be as concerned with Black joy and prosperity as you are with basic human rights
boost if able, re: minnesota protests
in case y’all didn’t see, the Minnesota Freedom Fund is actually good on donations after that massive fundraise yesterday and is directing people to donate to other causes, including Black Visions Collective, Reclaim The Block, and Northstar Health Collective.
MFF page for verification.
so direct action is not an option available to you. what can you do right now instead?
Be mindful of the content you’re putting on your social media accounts. Stop retweeting/reposting violent images and videos of black people dying. Know that content like this, even with trigger warnings included, can be very emotionally disturbing/distressing and yes, even traumatic, for black people navigating the internet right now.
Report any images and videos you see where protestors’ faces are visible/unblurred, particularly in content surrounding the lootings. Don’t retweet or repost these images and videos. This can be a death sentence.
DONATE, PARTICULARLY TO MINNESOTA-BASED BLACK YOUTH MOVEMENTS / MUTUAL AID FUNDS WHO ARE DOING WORK ON THE GROUND. FOLLOW/BOOST IF YOU CAN’T.
• The Minnesota Freedom Fund, a mutual aid group fighting back against the unjust MN bail system, is taking donations. (Twitter)
• The Black Visions Collective, a Minnesota-based freedom fighter organization creating campaigns for justice, is taking donations. (Twitter)
• Reclaim the Block, a coalition to demand that Minneapolis divest from policing, is taking donations. (Twitter)
• Crowdfunding for black trans people in need thread.
• Comprehensive Minnesota bail fund/support document for May and June.
A Memorial Fund created by George Floyd’s sister is here.
black people, please take care of yourselves. please take care of your health. please take care of your mind. please take care of your spirit.
i understand if your soul is not at peace. i understand if you are exhausted. just, please take care of yourselves in these dark, hateful times and surround yourself with people who understand why.
Just realized cowboys go yee haw and ninjas go hee yaw
The one thing I can appreciate about Tumblr is that I can just be. I don’t have to talk to anyone, I don’t care how many followers I have, I don’t care if anyone likes what I reblog. This entire space is dedicated to what I love; what inspires me; what brings me pleasure.
I know this is unrelated to this blog’s content, but free education is always good and so is visibility for disabled people! So here y'all go!! 💛
OH SHIT I TOLD THE DEAF PATRON AT MY LIBRARY TO FUCK OFF I DEFINITELY SIGNED THAT ONE WRONG I’M SO SORRY WES
This is like how the French language is constantly on the verge of sexual assault
We need to dismantle the systems in place that allow white people to get away with offering black people sub-par services based on the excuse that our bodies are more difficult to work with. Black hair is not more difficult than white hair, it simply requires a different skill set. Tattooing vibrant tattoos on black skin isn’t more difficult than tattooing white skin, it simply requires a different skill set. Photographing black people isn’t more difficult than photographing white people, it simply requires an understanding of photography. Doing makeup on black skin isn’t more difficult than doing makeup on white skin, it simply requires different products. Working with black people is not more difficult than working with white people you’ve all just been taught that it’s not valuable and therefore not worth learning how.
[gets a new mutual] i look forward to working with you
