I've been seeing a ton of Game of Thrones content lately and I watched an edit of Ned and Jon and one of the comments on it was about how some people believe Ned didn't love Jon as much as his real children and I first completely disagree but also it got me thinking about how different Ned's feelings about Jon probably actually are to his real children. I don't think he loves anyone more than another but he probably feels a very different connection to Jon. 1.) he traveled for probably months with a newborn Jon 2.) him and Jon have this huge secret that granted only he knows about but he knows if it gets out the two of them are dead. He probably hopes he's saved his wife and kids by not ever telling Catelyn but he knows it would be over for Jon and I think having that anvil over their head (even with Jon not knowing about) would just make his connection to Jon that much deeper.

I read somewhere that the Duffers had Jonathan save Steve as a way to mend fences between them (which I mean Steve has saved Jonathan twice so not sure why they can only make up when it's the other way around) but I really thought the whole season they were going make up/bond over Will and Robin.

I kept thinking that Robin telling Will about how telling Steve made her feel more comfortable because he just accepted it was leading to Will coming out to Steve because 1) he knew based on Robin Steve would be okay with it and 2) it would be less of a loss if it didn't go well because Steve and Will aren't really anything to each other. I figured after Will told Steve, it would kind of be like a ripping the bandaid off moment and then he would tell Jonathan (officially) and that he told Steve first and Jonathan would be grateful that Steve was good about it and then they would bond over how much better than Mike Will could do.

Also 100% if Will mentioned his crush was Mike to Steve, Steve would make just as much fun of Mike as he did Tammy.

also i’m seeing people be like “wowwww steve…. smh…..” because of what he said about eddie and it’s like oh. my god you guys want steve to be SO boring. genuinely any time he says anything that isn’t upbeat and positive everyone is like “what’s his problem……” like idk he’s in consecutive near death situations and his pseudo little brother absolutely hates his guts and he’s constantly being called stupid maybe he’s a bit STRESSED? like why is steve not allowed to have complex emotions about eddie’s death. why is he not allowed to be upset that eddie died in an easily preventable way. sure it was a bit uncouth how he phrased it but everyone else is uncouth CONSTANTLY #letstevebeuncouth

The moment anyone suggests "grown-up Steve might actually work with Nancy," a huge chunk of the fandom defaults to "No way, remember douchey Season 1 Steve? He called her a slut! He wanted her to pretend everything was normal!" It's like his redemption only counts when it's separate from any romantic context with Nancy.

I noticed People regularly celebrate his growth for his platonic relationships, like Dustin and Robin & his selflessness in fighting the UD. but romantic reunion? Suddenly it's all talk of regression blah blah blah.

Like has no one ever heard of the "Right person, wrong time" trope?

Being wrong for eachother, growing separately and then coming back together is NOT regression.

Season 1: started liking Steve ended with her liking Jonathan.

Season 2: she strings Steve along while wanting Jonathan ends up with him.

Season 3: they actually have some time together where they are not fighting monsters and it goes.... badly. She sees Robin at the mall and immediately has a jealous reaction (I know people deny this but it's literally right in your face)

Season 4: Jealous of Robin at first. Takes the time to get to know grown up Steve and absolutely likes what she sees. She's able to do this without Jonathan breathing down her neck.

Season 5: her and Jonathan are barely functional as a couple and her and Steve are on the same wavelength the majority of the time.

That isn't regression. It's the two characters growing linearly but not together.

Not preferring Stancy is totally valid and cool but calling it character regression is a level 10 cope.

She was happy with Steve and excited to be around him until Barb was killed and then her guilt took over everything. She blamed herself and Steve for Barb's death. Season 4 showed us that she still felt guilty and the mission that she and Jonathan went on in season 2 didn't actually make her feel better.

If she were to have a moment where she finally accepts that it was not her fault (or Steve's fault) that Barb died that would be a great moment of growth for Nancy and if that lead to her getting back together with Steve or even just a hint they might get back together down the line that even better, because that shows she no longer associates Steve and the happiness she felt that night with what happened to Barb.

I think later down the line, I think Nancy should take time to just be alone and let everything go before settling with either, Steve is my choice but I know he’s not everyones but I’m being respectful.

Just allow herself time to breathe and figure out what both people truly mean to her. Allowing herself to just be Nancy and maybe explore just friendships with both.

I agree, I actually think stancy getting back together shouldn't happen until the epilogue (assuming it's true they have one that takes place in the 90s), there should be something that hints they're dating again or going on a date soon. The only thing I want to happen before that would be a conversation resolving the whole "we killed Barb" thing because I think that guilt is the bulk of their issues.

I guess I’ll lay this out one last time: I think actually the only way to satisfyingly resolve Nancy Wheeler’s character arc is with Steve Harrington.

The fundamental misunderstanding here is that Some People think Nancy’s arc is about being a girlboss when in fact Nancy’s arc has always been about Barb. Nancy thinks that she killed Barb, she thinks her negligence, her recklessness, her joy really is what got her best friend killed tragically young and so since has taken on all the responsibility to solve any problem, to always be working towards an answer, to never relax or enjoy herself again.

She breaks up with Steve because of this, because “we killed Barb” and because he tells her she should relax, let go, move on. Jonathan offers her a place where her hypervigilance and action is not only encouraged but needed. He is, in the kindest way possible, a bit of a project for her to work on when she needs one.

The thing that is really important to me though, that I hope the show recognizes finally, Nancy and Steve did not kill Barb. Having a stupid party and being a teenager and having sex is not something that deserved a punishment. And Nancy getting to realize that, getting to engage with Steve and enjoy it again, to not see them both as culpable, and to not have to continue to punish herself for any joy, would be the best sign that she is finally healing. Frankly Jonathan can’t provide her that healing and closure about Barb because he also thinks that she did something wrong that night, he thinks she wasn’t acting like herself, just like Barb did, he maybe reaffirms her belief that it was her fault in a way that is validating in the moment but that doesn’t let her start to recover.

So ultimately, no I don’t like Stancy because they’re both hot or because I only like Steve or because I’m a misogynist or because of anything except the fact that I don’t see Nancy Wheeler as a girlboss, I see her as a traumatized teenage girl who deserves to realize having fun is not a crime, that it wasn’t then and it doesn’t have to be now.

I made a post a few years ago about how I didn't think Steve was ever actually a bad guy, that he was just a teenager who made poor decisions and the fact that he showed remorse for them proved he wasn't just a bully, and suddenly I keep seeing that take on TikTok and I am so glad this is starting to become a more popular opinion. I will die on the hill that while Steve does have one of the best character arcs on the show, he didn't become a better person over that arc he simply grew up over that arc.

They have to mention where Steve's parents are this season right? I mean at least a passing comment about their status? Are they dead, did they leave town before everything and never come back, are they in town and perfectly fine? I mean surely we are updated in some way, shape or form about everyone's families.

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't think any of the core characters are going to die in the final season? I could see at least one or multiple of the non-involved parents dying. Any character we haven't seen in awhile but suddenly pops back up this season is probably dying but I don't think any of the main characters are dying. Maybe Murray if you consider him a main character but I think everyone else is safe.
