will and mike seeing hadestown when it opened on broadway in 2019, in their late 40s. they're still not together - it's been years of will trying to move on and mike trying to run from his feelings. they both sob at the ending because it makes them think about their own relationship. will seeing himself in eurydice who has put up a tough exterior because she's terrified of getting hurt, just like will has been so resistant to letting mike love him even as he's been trying to send signs because he's convinced that it couldn't possibly be real. mike seeing himself in orpheus who has so much regret for pushing eurydice away and letting his doubt stop him from protecting her. they have a tear-filled conversation in their seats after the lights come up where mike finally confesses to will. he tells him that he's so tired of letting his doubt eat him up and that he doesn't want his own fear to hurt will anymore. will responds by saying that he's sick of holding himself back and that he finally wants to love fully and openly without feeling like he needs to have a shield up. they kiss in the theatre and as they walk out mike keeps looking back at will because he just can't believe how lucky he is to finally have this. will doesn't mind the thought of being damned to hell because mike has looked back—at least now he knows it's out of love, not doubt
