Okay, for everyone who apparently have zero functioning brain cells, let me explain to you why Pixelberry, a company run by adults, writing a sex scene between Noah/MC and Mason/MC is fucking weird
1. Noah, Mason, and MC are all minors, as far as we know. Thereās been no mention of whoās eighteen and who isnāt in this book so far. Even if they were, Iād still kind of side eye āitās not weird! Theyāre eighteen year old high schoolers!ā Iām too lazy to get into why thatās weird.
2. The scene was written by adults, for (presumably) adults, about kids. It didnāt need to get that explicit. It would be fine if there was implied sex, and the scene was more centered around the fact that MC/the LI of your choice the LI of your choice if youāre straight finally get intimate (which is typically what most YA PB diamond scenes do, if thereās any sex at allāin HSS/HSSCA/ILITW, you at most made out with your LI a bit and that was it, which was what I expected for this, and what would have been appropriate), but thatās not what this is. It was framed to be sexy. From the screenshots Iāve seen, it was about on the same level as a fifteen diamond Witness scene.
3. Yes, teenagers have sex. Yes, lots of TV shows targeted at teenagers depict sex. But 1) These TV shows usually stop right at the point where clothes come off, 2) the actors in these shows are adults, and 3) Teenagers privately having sex with each other isnāt consumed by an audience, nor should it be. Again, teenagers are kids.
4. Do I think PB did this maliciously? No. Do I think theyāre all secretly a bunch of child pornographers? No. But this was, at best, an incredibly dumb oversight on their part, and at worst, them thinking they could profit off of sexualizing teenagers under the assumption that there are enough horny weirdos on this app who would pay money to see Noah/Masonās (again, both of whom are teenage boys) shirtless sprite and read about him getting a handjob. This isnāt me being bitter that two LIs got dirty thirties and one did not. Iād feel just as weird if I found out thereās a scene where you can read about a teenage girl getting fingered in the back of a car and the whole thing is framed as super sexy and super hot or whatever.
This isnāt moral outrage because I got reminded that sometimes teenagers have sex. Itās anger at the fact that some of yāall seemingly do not understand why itās fucking weird for adults to write about that with the framing that they did, and itās annoyance at the fact that yes, apparently, PB is this fuckin dumb.
