Today we’re excited to finally reveal the names behind all the amazing works that were posted in our fest!

Truly huge thank you goes to all of our participants for sharing your creativity, time, and passion for Moonchaser with us. This fest would not exist without you, and we’re so grateful for every single piece that was created.

As for those of you curious about the fest's next steps, since Moonchaser Fest is a small rare pair event, the current plan is for the next round to take place in 2028, during the next full lunar eclipse — which makes our fest a biannual one. We hope you’ll stick around, keep enjoying the works, and maybe join us again when the moon and sun clash again for the next round!

The last two works have now been posted!

We want to give a huge thank you to every single one of our fest participants for the time, creativity, and love they poured into their works. We’re so grateful you chose to create for the fest and help spread some Moonchaser love. It’s such a wonderful (and sadly underrated) ship, and even though this is a smaller fest, every single piece adds something special to the growing library for the ship.

4 years ago, at 16 Remus, Sirius, James, and Peter meet a music festival when their favorite band played and bonded for life.

Since then, James presented as an omega. Remus as an Alpha. And they're all meeting up again for the first time since they were 16. When Remus was so tiny he couldn't see the stage and had to be piggybacked around by James. But now Remus has had a "growth spurt" and James isn't what some would classify as a typical omega.

 When James dies in a car accident at 21, Remus tries everything in his power to bring him back - like following the instructions of a 16th-century witch, morals be damned.

Whispered into sweaty skin, yelled from passing cars, written in red graffiti along the mirror of their shared uni housing bathroom, it was as inescapable as James himself. Death happened to other — lesser — people; it couldn't come close to touching James. The fact that this was generally insane and downright impossible never really mattered. Not to Remus. After all, a universe without James Potter would be no kind of universe at all, and so it must be true. James Potter was never going to die. Perhaps it was why Remus didn't question the speed they were going, simply enjoying the scream of the wind in his ears and James' fingers as they traced a line along the nape of his neck. There was no way in his current state he was getting up right now to do some ridiculous dare. He answered, “Truth,” before noticing the mischievous look on Marlene's face.

She grinned, shoving a small potion bottle into his hand and instructing him to drink some. Obliging, he swallowed a large sip before handing it back.

His insides tingled as the Veritaserum took effect.

“Tell us some secret, dirty fantasies you've had about someone.”

Oh, he was so fucked.

PREVIEW:

The room spun before his eyes. Or, wait no. Not the room, the bottle. Why was a bottle spinning? Something about a game…Remus couldn’t quite remember. He felt like he was flying, though he’d never really taken a fancy to brooms. Maybe he should try again because this felt amazing. The buzz of the alcohol running through his body sent waves of electric energy across his skin. It was intoxicating, like anything was possible. The sound of his name drew his mind back to the spinning bottle, which was now still. Pointing at him. Shit. What was the game again? He glanced to his side, helplessly looking at Sirius, who just grinned back at him shaking his head, eyes glazed over from the liquor. Remus imagined his eyes couldn’t look much better. His brain felt heavy, the room tilting slightly as he tried to remember what they were doing. Why had he agreed to drink so much again? The evenings events slowly came back, the Quidditch match. Gryffindor winning. James the team captain scoring the final goal, securing the needed points to win the house cup. James.

{HAIR OF THE DOG}

Moony has a bad habit, and as much as James doesn’t mind, it’s starting to negatively impact his actual life. Maybe he and Remus can brainstorm a solution.

PREVIEW:

i. The Wolf Remus can feel his muscles shifting, strength rippling through them. The ever-present ache in his human bones replaced with the sheer power of the wolf. Everything about the wolf is sharper, honed to be an apex predator, and at first it takes a moment for the wolf to adjust to the onslaught of sounds and scents all around it. The wolf isn’t far from campus, and at first the overwhelming smell of sweat and pizza and weed and sex violates its senses, drawing the wolf in as much as it pushes the wolf away, alarm bells ringing in its mind. Human. Danger. From a short distance, the wolf hears a whistle, sharp and piercing, cutting through the cacophony of senses, and it turns its head towards the sound, its nose picking up on something deeper, familiar, as its head cranes in the direction of the noise. The wolf sits back on its haunches, nose raised to the wind, inhaling deeply as it picks up on that raw and rich smell it could detect from miles away. But it doesn’t have to try hard to tune into it. No, he’s close. The wolf’s mate.

He ran his fingers down the gratuitous happy trail that seemed to have sprouted overnight. Was it always that thick? He let out a defeated sigh. James looked up at the posters he had hanging on his wall. Some might have Alphas they salivated over hanging on their ceilings. He had Omegas that he wanted to look like. They were trim, sure, but they were also…soft. Where they had soft curves and smooth skin, James had hard edges and coarse hair. He crinkled his brow in thought and flexed his arm again. He had heard of people magically augmenting their bodies to look how they desired. He understood, for the most part, what it was like to want that. He just didn’t have the confidence to. What if something went wrong and he was stuck changed for the worst? The last thing he needed in his final year of school was a tail or extra arm. He looked over to the bed on the opposite side of the room.

i. There are probably worse things than this. Maybe being kidnapped, or suffering through a renal colic to the point of vomiting. Something like that. But, Remus Lupin, for all his bad luck and terrible health, hasn't been subjected to those two. So, all in all, this was the worst situation to date—notwithstanding the perpetual brace on his knee and the constant necessity to use a cane to walk properly, or that time he fell in the middle of the street because he tripped over his own laces. It doesn't matter if some friends, mostly his Mam, would call him a drama queen because of his current state of gay panic. Remus knows better, simply because he is the one having the closest thing to an epiphany mixed with a panic attack as he stares at that pair of biceps flexing and unflexing just mere centimetres from his stupid, shocked face. The only positive is that, when this all goes to shit, he will be able to say It was a terrible idea. “Alright, James, so this is the last part of the interview,” Mary, Remus’ co-owner of Lunar Tales and general pain in the arse, prompts as she rests her tablet where she was reading James’ CV on her lap. “I don’t know if Remus has any questions?” Are you single? He blinks away the preposterous thought and fights to focus on anything that isn’t the way those hazel eyes shine when they look his way. “Erm, no. N-not right now. It’s all good. Yes.”

Dad chided him to act more his age but mum wouldn’t have it, she never shied from showing affection, her sweet pecks made him feel like the sun had grazed his petals, like he was flying.  “Study hard!”  Remus waved at her and sprinted to school.  Never to see her again.

“I’m so sorry, mate,” Sirius claps James on the shoulder. “I was sure it would work. It was such a romantic idea.”  “It wasn’t meant to be,” he shrugs dejectedly. Admittedly, he thought it was a brilliant idea too. Ever since he heard one of Remus Lupin’s songs playing in his local chippy, he has been obsessed with the indie artist. He stalked his Instagram religiously, had his music on repeat whenever he could (Quidditch training was interesting to say the least, running to the slow songs that never fail to bring tears to his eyes) and had posters of him on his bedroom wall like a teenage girl with her favourite band. So, when one day, he managed to get a ticket to one of his almost sold-out shows after seeing him live once years before, James decided to shoot his shot, making a friendship bracelet that he has seen his fans trade at the concerts with his number on to give to the singer.   Obviously, that didn’t go according to plan. He wasn’t allowed to speak with the man afterwards for his own safety, not even him being a famous international Quidditch star could grant him those privileges. One chance was all he was hoping for, one interaction—he didn’t even have to say yes to a date or text him back. James just wanted to see that awkward smile directed solely at him. He wanted to see if Remus would nervously run his fingers through his sandy curls like he does when he is overcome with awe and bewilderment at the roaring crowd in front of him. He wanted to see if he has any freckles and what his laugh sounds like in person rather than in an interview he saw online. He just wanted to see him, and he didn’t even get that. He understands, of course he understands, but he genuinely thought it would work.

Euphemia had always wanted children, a house filled with laughter and celebration and learning and discovering. There’s something about viewing the world through the eyes of a child, when everything is vibrant and new, that transforms even the simplest of moments into a thing of precious, tender beauty. And even more than that, she always knew she’d be a good mother. She’d witnessed the cruelty or the world, watched it chew so many children up and spit them out into adulthood naked and vulnerable and afraid, and she and Fleamont had vowed that they would do everything within their power to prevent that from happening with their own family. They filled their house with comfort and warmth, long before their son had come along. The years and years of trying and disappointment and heartbreak and longing and waiting just to be let down time and time again, as bitter and sometimes soul crushing as it had been, had also prepared them. Taught them patience and reliance on each other. Taught them to treasure the small glimmers of happiness, even if they were so easily wrenched from their grasp. When James had come along, with Euphemia’s dark eyes and tanned skin and Fleamont’s bright smile and cokebottle thick glasses, it wasn’t that he filled in something that had been lost, but rather he changed the context of their loss, bringing something bright and hopeful and new into their world. She waited with bated breath throughout the pregnancy, hand grasped knuckle white in Fleamont’s, unable to exhale until they were finally, finally holding their baby boy in their arms.

Moonchaser Fest Begins Today!

The wait is over — Moonchaser Fest starts posting today, March 3rd!

So often, Remus and James are represented by the moon and the sun, so we, the mods, chose today, March 3rd — the day of a total lunar eclipse — for the first day of posting in our Moonchaser Fest.

Absolutely perfect day when the sun and the moon meet in shadow and light. This is the last total lunar eclipse visible anywhere on Earth until New Year’s Eve 2028–2029 (wink wink if you know what we mean), making this kickoff even more special.

Today the sun and the moon clash for the very first time in our fest participants’ works.

New works will be posted throughout the week in the afternoon hours (GMT), with the final piece going up on Sunday the 8th.
