summary: kim hongjoong walked with pride and led with confidence. he wanted to conquer the world. to do that, he needed you, the key to his prophecy. what neither of you realize, however, is how deep your connection truly is. and despite what you believe, it would be the one thing that would cause the both of you to fall to ruination.

Nighttime was starting to become colder, you could feel the breeze pick up as you stood outside the old church. Autumn was here, and here to stay until the bitter coldness of winter wanted to take over. You’d miss the summer, when the world was alive and free. The sunset was your favorite part, but that would always be with you.
You’d hoped he wouldn’t take long. Then again, he did whatever he pleased, and everyone loved him for it. Well, most people. Others, like you, saw through his charade and knew he was utterly insane. But somehow his charm and manipulative words made people look past that, and only saw a man who could bring hope to this small town.
As much as you didn’t want to oblige, your aunt insisted it would be good for you. Perhaps you could see that he does mean well and only wants the best for everyone, she encouraged. It made you want to scream your head off, but you weren’t in the mood for a fight tonight. So, you said you’d go for only a little while.
Hongjoong specifically requested you at the church for seven, and it was now seven o’three. Your patience had begun to thin, and you were this close to just going home. However, you heard footsteps approaching from the side of the building, and low and behold, there he was. Confidence and cocky as ever.
His attire remained the same from when you saw it earlier. An all-black outfit with his signature boots and eyepatch. You were convinced it was fake, and you’d prove it one day. Maybe then you could convince everyone that Hongjoong was a fraud and could not be trusted. What a glorious day that would be.
“Ah, you’re here. I was worried you wouldn’t show up. You didn’t attend my service today,” Hongjoong called out as he stalked towards you.
You shook your head. “I had other . . . obligations to attend to. Very important ones.”
“Understandable. Maybe next time, my service can be another important obligation of yours,” he commented, which made you dig your nails into your hands. You couldn’t react, that’s what he wanted. It was best if you just kept your mouth shut.
You simply ignored his comment and crossed your arms over your chest. “You asked me to come here, and I showed up, so what do you want?”
A smirk rose on his face. “So hostile, it’s all good things,” Hongjoong reassured you, but you felt everything but reassured. “There’s something I want to show you. Come.”
He pushed open one of the church doors and your gut immediately began to scream. This wasn’t a good idea, especially when it would get dark soon. God knows what he wanted to show you.
“It’s getting really late. Monsignor Pruitt doesn’t like it when people go to church after services end. Can’t we come back tomorrow morning? At a normal time? When people are out and about?” You tried to reason.
“Are you ensuing that I am going to harm you, Darling?” He asked. “Didn’t realize your hatred for me ran so deep.”
“I don’t hate you. I just don’t like you, and what you’re saying to the town,” you fought back. “But in all seriousness, this is very creepy, so can’t we just do it tomorrow morning? I’ll show up, I swear.”
But Hongjoong only shook his head. “But you’ll miss the big surprise if we don’t go now. Come, it won’t be long.”
You rolled your eyes as you watched him disappear into the church. With a dramatic sigh, you followed, your nerves increasing by the second. Surely if you were to die, then everyone would know Hongjoong did it, and he’d be sent to prison. There was some comfort in that.
It was different at night. Darker, obviously, but also calmer. Like you could just be alone in your thoughts and not worry about what others had to say. You used to come here a lot, but you couldn’t recall why you stopped. Maybe it was a sign to start going again. If the town allowed it, now that Hongjoong was weaseling his way in. You still didn’t see the appeal of his little group. You hoped you never would, and you prayed that someone would slap you if you showed the slightest bit of interest.
The uneasiness arose again once you began to walk upstairs, down a hallway you had never seen before. It was most likely to the Monsignor’s office, but still, no one was allowed back there. You wondered how he’d react seeing the both of you walk down his hallways. Hongjoong would most likely manipulate Monsignor Pruitt into making him believe it to be his fault. Or throw you under the bus. Either option was feasible.
When you reached the top, you walked out onto a balcony. You could see the sky blending into pink and orange, the stars sprinkling around it. It was truly a magnificent sight, one you never noticed before. You always knew the sunsets were pretty, but you didn’t realize
“I never knew you could see this kind of view from up here,” you spoke, memorized. You couldn’t take your eyes off of the skyline. “It’s beautiful.”
Hongjoong observed you, arms behind his back. “Neither did I. I need somewhere to escape to whenever I need to clear my head. My cabin isn’t good enough.”
You didn’t say anything, you just leaned against the balcony with your arms. Silence filled the space between you, and you couldn’t tell if you needed to say something, or if the silence was good enough. It was nice like this, quiet. You could actually hear your thoughts for once.
“How did you convince—” You started.
“Why do you resist me?” He cut you off.
You weren’t sure how to answer that. There were many reasons. It would take you forever to name all of them. So, you only shook your head. “I don’t really know. I’m content with where I’m at, I guess?”
“Are you really, though?” He asked, to which you wanted to answer No but chose to refrain.
You shrugged your shoulders. “My life is fine, and that’s all you’ll get from me. I have a loving family, friends, and a community that looks out for each other. What more could I want?”
“Stability, purpose, love. There are many things one can achieve in their lifetime, it doesn’t have to be a select few,” Hongjoong explained. “You could be happy. With me. The group.”
“And why would I do that? Throw away everything for a prophecy that is absolute bullshit? No thanks, I would rather live in the real world than play pretend and go insane.”
“Because it is real. And you are a big part of it. I need someone brave, someone strong. That person is you. It has always been you. You truly think the real world gives a shit about you? They don’t. It is boring and bleak and miserable. But I see you. You don’t want that, you don’t want to do the same thing everyday. You want more. You want confidence, power, strength. I can give you all of those things and more. We can. You just have to trust yourself to do the right thing. Trust yourself to join me. We can do wonderful things together, Darling. You have no idea,” Hongjoong explained.
The sun had officially fallen asleep for the night. The moon and the stars were out to shine. You were quite honestly dumbfounded by his words, he was right about some things. Sure, you wished your life had more adventure, and you didn’t want to settle and do the same, boring thing everyday. But you couldn’t fall into the trap of some cult-horror bullshit. You wouldn’t allow yourself to fall for that nonsense. You couldn’t. You needed to be true to yourself, and that was not something you wanted.
You? A big part of Hongjoong’s prophecy that could change the world? Yeah right.
He snapped you out of your thoughts by grabbing your hand and bringing it to his chest. His actions startled you, but you couldn’t bring yourself to pull away. “Look, I know this shit isn’t easy for you. It’s hard for anyone to trust someone they’ve never met. But trust me when I say that you should seriously reconsider your decision. Come to a meeting. It can be with everyone, or the core members, it can just be with me and how I run things. Just . . . give us a chance. Give me a chance. And I’ll prove to you that there’s more to this.”
Before you could respond, your phone buzzed. Saved by the bell. It was just your mother asking if you needed any laundry done. You didn’t answer right away, but you cleared your throat. “It’s my aunt, she wants to know when I’ll be home.”
“Of course,” he rubbed his thumb against yours. Within a few seconds, he dropped your hand all together. It felt cold. “Don’t want to keep her waiting. I’ll walk you to your car.”
He led the way down, and you didn’t hesitate to follow him. It didn’t take you long to reach your car, to which it miraculously didn’t get slashed or destroyed while you were away. The silence had killed you this time around, and neither of you wanted to suffer through it. “That view you showed me… I never knew that balcony existed, or how pretty the sunset looked from up there. So thanks for that. I really mean it.”
Hongjoong shrugged his shoulders. “It’s a special spot I would only show to a special person,” he answered. “And I mean it when I say your special. There’s something about you that just pulls me in every time. Maybe it’s the prophecy, or maybe it’s me getting my hopes up of having someone remarkable join me, but you are. You should know that.”
You could only crack a small smile. “Thanks.”
He took your hand and pressed a gentle kiss to it. “Have a goodnight, Darling.”
“Goodnight, Hongjoong.”
And with that, you bid farewell. His touch and warmth still lingered on your hand as you began to drive away.
Perhaps he was right. Maybe you were being too harsh on him and his group. Joining one meeting wouldn’t hurt you, right? Just to see what it was like and how the people operated. And if you don’t like it, he’ll leave you alone. Simple as that.
summary: your boring, quiet town was now up-and-coming with crime and violence after you returned from college. you needed a way to protect you and your siblings from this madness. would it be such a bad idea if you asked christopher bang, the arising boxing star partially responsible for this madness, for free boxing lessons in exchange for being his marketing partner? you were fire and ice, but you needed each other if both of you wanted to succeed.

“Hey, you.”
Right when you were about to begin dancing with your friends, a familiar voice called out. Chris’ voice, to be exact. Confused, you all turned around to see him and some of his friends approaching your group. You were concerned, especially since he had no idea who you were, or what interest he had in talking to you. Well, except for the little incident at the convenience store, but who could blame you? He was being an asshole!
His eyes stared directly into yours, your chest now tightening. You shook it off and squared your shoulders. “Hi?” You answered, confused.
“Didn’t expect to see you at the match. What did you think?” Chris asked nonchalantly.
“We loved it!” Ji-hoon exclaimed with a smile, which made Gina smack his arm and him wince in pain.
You rolled your eyes at his comment. “And why would you assume I wouldn’t be at the match?”
Chris shrugged his shoulders. “You didn’t seem like my biggest fan at the convenience store yesterday. Figured you wouldn’t want to come and support me, but I’m glad you did.”
“Well yeah, you were being an asshole to those guys. Who, by the way, did nothing wrong. You were just antagonizing them for fun, like you’re doing with me now. Is that what gets you off? Terrorizing innocent people?” You snapped back, earning snickers from Chris’ friends.
“She kinda got you there, dude,” One of them, who had muscles almost as big as Chris’, commented.
But he only brushed them off, not intimidated by your words. “Was I, though? You didn’t bother to listen to my side of the story, you just assumed I was wrong.”
“Yes, because they were asking you to stop and just wanted to get food,” you started, but had to stop before you got riled up. This is what he wants, and you didn’t want to give it to him. You didn’t want to give him anything. “What do you want? I would really like to start dancing with my friends, so unless there's an emergency or you’re going to apologize, then I would like this conversation to be over, please.”
There was a brief pause before Chris took a step closer to you, his confidence radiating off of him. “Come dance with me. Just for a little bit. Consider it a peace offering. Your friends can come too. I’ll even forget about your apology comment, since I have nothing to apologize for.”
He almost had you, but his final words reminded you of who he actually is. He didn’t want a truce, he just wanted to sleep with you and forget about it the next day. You heard rumors from years ago, and with how the other women were looking at you right now, you knew it to be true.
“There’s no way in hell I would ever dance with you. My God, you are such a fucking cliché,” you scoffed with a laugh. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go dance with people I actually want to be around. Have a nice life, Alexander.”
“That’s not my name,” Chris said, a smirk now on his face. He was enjoying every second of this.
You shrugged your shoulders. “It isn’t? Huh, guess it shows what little interest I have in you. It must be a total shock to you, but you’ll learn to live with it. Or maybe you won’t. Either way, I don’t care.”
Gina and Ji-hoon were shocked at your words, since you were never the type to talk that way. But they immediately followed you as you began to walk away and onto the dance floor. You could feel Chris’ gaze burning onto your back, that arrogant smirk still fresh in your mind. What a loser, you thought to yourself.
Luckily, this would be the last time you spoke to him. Now that you knew everything about Chris Bang (or Alexander, as you like to call him), you would do everything in your power to avoid him. Then eventually, you would forget he even existed. And wasn’t that such a lovely idea?
With a final sip of your drink, you placed it down and began to dance with Gina and Ji-hoon, enjoying whatever time you had left in the night.
Another quick poll I’m so sorry, still figuring things out!! Would you guys prefer a long one-shot (30-35k words) or series (10-15 chapters, between 8-10k words each)?
Just wanna see how I can best execute my stories!! Any feedback is appreciated <3
We’re getting somewhere yass!! This is so helpful, I definitely need to think about this more since I’m still torn (I’m insane I know). But maybe I will do a mix of both and see what I like/don’t like!! But thank you I appreciate everyone who voted🫶🏻
