I feel INSANE
I've tried a few times to articulate why I enjoy writing about female characters-- both in original fiction and in fandom-- and every attempt has sort of turned into a rambling nothingburger.
But you know what a big part of it is? Spite.
There is so much fiction out there that treats its female characters as disposable. Background noise. A love interest to check off a box, to give the male character as a prize, but unimportant beyond that. Doesn't matter what objectively interesting things have happened to her, when looked at on paper; the powers she has, the major life shifts she's gone through, the grief or pain or terror-- it's all secondary or tertiary to the guys'.
So I like taking those characters and saying No, and forcing the spotlight on her.
And then. And then. When you find those stories that do care-- that do see the full intelligence and complexity and autonomy of their women-- then I'm not fighting against the writers. I'm fighting alongside them. I'm holding hands with the authors, and each of us are picking up a pick-axe and taking it to the patriarchy.
Come, join me. It's a lot of fun.

You Weren't Asexual, Cishet Girl
I'm tired of the 'I was asexual until I found my husband' industrial complex. Let's have some ace feminism in the chat pls
On cishet women’s bizarre appropriation of asexuality
People will go "Being aromantic and or asexual is a spectrum so it's okay that I ship them with someone!" But if I said I headcanon a character that's already in a canon relationship as aroace suddenly I'm just mischaracterizing and trying to make every character queer
It's incredibly clear that people don't engage in Black asexual theory or listen to Black aces in any surface-level way actually. If they did they'd know how sexualisation and desexualisation are massive parts of anti-black racism because anti-black racism would be something they'd care about in the first place. If people did actually pay attention to those Black ace activists they reblog, they'd realise why most if not all of them support coalition building with the LGBTQ and I instead of a shallow ace-separatism which treats ace issues as a vacuum from every other identity, because they'd understand how race, gender, romantic attraction, disability, body type and religion shape social expectations of sex and romance. If they did they would've heard of 'intersectionality'. If they did then the hip hop moral panic would've never happened. If they did understand the importance of centring the most marginalised in the community instead of blaming "stereotypical" aces (sex-repulsed, introverted, not fitting conventional beauty standards etc.) for why anti-ace sentiment exists in the first place. If they did they'd then they would've picked up on a term called 'respectability politics' and why the calls for hotter, extroverted and attractive aces will never end compulsory sexuality. If people did there'd be less blame on the labels and on the systems that create those labels in the first place. They'd understand that because they'd have read the POV of people whose experiences are defined by a physical perception they don't have to worry about.
If people listened we'd be understood. Yet, we never are.

as an aroace, i know there's a platonic explanation for anything if you put your mind into it. however i simply choose not to when it comes to some of my blorbos.

I miss them so much
being a kid and hearing adults say stuff like "woah 2011 was 4 years ago haha" didn't really convey the fucking horror of a youtube video crossing my recommended labelled "9 years ago" and it's from 2017. that's not true. 9 years ago is 2010 or something. don't lie.
