A still from PRIMATE, a stop motion music video currently in production for musician, WilderBeast.
All puppets and props were created by me.
Meet Ananke, a stop motion puppet created for an NFTS puppet making module.
Ananke is loosely based on the primordial Ancient Greek Goddess whom was said to sit at the centre of the universe at the beginning of time...
‘The axis of the cosmos spins in her womb like a spindle’
I enjoyed illustrating these themes of time and space with Ananke’s recessed belly cavity from which the ‘threads of time’ unravel.
Ananke also carries a giant golden needle prop which she might use to stitch together the fabric of the universe.

Some close-ups of the underground section of our Roald Dahl Exhibit.
I created some roots and rocks to help dress this part of the set and to enhance the earthy, natural finish.
This 1/6 scale suitcase was made from chemiwood pieces and vac-formed cut-out details.
This display cabinet was completed during my NFTS Model Making diploma. The piece was made collaboratively to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Fantastic Mr Fox, ready to be exhibited in the Roald Dahl museum in Great Missenden.
The top half of the display shows a replica of Roald Dahl’s writing shed whilst the bottom shows a secret burrow from which Mr Fox himself is tunneling up do an impromptu raid.
We had a lot of fun including references from all our favourite Dahl books in the set, plus a nod to the style of the Wes Anderson feature film.
You can find out more about this project in this Skwigly article.
One of the two towel rails I made for the NFTS Shining project. Made using K+S Brass, turned chemiwood pieces and glass beads. Finished with liquid chrome marker!
During the process of making this toilet for an NFTS Model Making module, I looked at lots of old magazines from the 50′s for reference... It certainly turned out to be an attractive water closet!
Toilet Seat by Bethany Williams
Our Room 237 Bathroom 1/6 scale replica set from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining completed at the NFTS.
I contributed to the preliminary construction of the set and painting of the walls, also creating the toilet, towel rails, arched mirrors and assembling the mirrored shelves.
Miniature Red Onion at 1/6 scale
Brick Wall Repeated Pattern, inspired by the Great Wall of China
Golden Goblet, turned from chemiwood on the ley.
Gargoyle pattern sculpted in Monster clay and cast in resin, with some of my original references
I crafted this carnivorous plant as a set piece for an upcoming music video project.
To create the shape, I stitched segments together and did some complicated calculations with Pi. The corolla is reinforced with wire, fabric-mache on the inside and painted with acrylic. The stamen of the plant can be animated and the top has been sculpted in clay and adorned with tiny pink beads. I used knitted wire mesh for the top leaves, which was an interesting material to work with. The tentacles/roots are shaped from the inside with wire and will also be animated in the video.
Guizhou is a wild-eyed, ginger-furred primate. This puppet was made for a music video for the track ‘Primate’, written and produced by WilderBeast in preparation for their album release.
The character of Guizhou is named after the province in southwest China. Guizhou is home to the golden snub-nosed monkeys of which my puppet is loosely based. Guizhou is not like other monkeys, of course. The video will see him undergo a transcendental experience. Aided by hallucinogenic plants, Guizhou will travel through multi-dimensions to the subconscious subcontinent of his mind’s eye (without giving too much away).
To create this stop motion puppet I worked with a ball and socket armature. Full details on my process have been documented in a series of blog posts, which can be found here.
The Telescope Tower is another addition to a series I have been working on, focusing on impossible, animated architectural structures
